I keep forgetting to de-anon myself. Why. Also, recaptacha: industrialist lefties

It isn't until, months after the hiring of an American boy, during a birthday party for a mutual friend, he meets the new co-worker that he is strike with familiarity.

Arthur knows that he should be happy for his Italian friend, but there's a dull ache as he watches Romana interact with Antonio. The two were so obviously in love, even Arthur can tell.

It's when his eyes slide pass Marica, a close friend of his, engaged in a conversation with another co-worker, Sebastian, as he surveys the crowd, that he notices the new guy.

The American boy Marica has mentioned a couple times over their chats.

And instantly, he feels that same pull that he felt when he first cast his glance upon Antonio, upon Marica, and upon Romana. Except this time, it's harder and there's an even closer sense of familiarity than the time he met Marica for the very first time.

As if he can feel the pull as well, the American looks up. And he jerks--the blue eyes reminds him of his dreams, of the time he dreamt that he is drowning and can't breathe and of the time that man pulls him up and--

--and he realizes that he isn't breathing. He chokes, tries to compose himself, and sees that the American has allowed a ghost of a smile to grace his face.

And he can see how Marica is entranced by this man.

He doesn't notice that later, that the American is next to him and they're both sipping the beer, savoring the taste, and that both of them could feel the pull, and quietly enjoy each other's presence.

It isn't until Antonio calls for everyone to gather for his favorite (and only) girlfriend's birthday wish that he and the American glance at each other before exchanging smiles.

Somehow, that is comforting.

When Romana blows out the candles, he moves closer to the American. When everyone is clapping, the American takes his hand and smiles.

He doesn't realize it now--not until later--that that American is the same one in his dreams and maybe that is why he is struck with such familiarity but then why would he be dreaming of him?

But it doesn't take long to exchange phone numbers and arrange a date.

It is minutes after the party is over--but it feels like days. He lays on his bed, as close to the phone as he can possibly get and when he falls asleep, he dreams. He dreams of the future, and of the American boy who he never got the name of but somehow, he feels he already knows it.

When they go out for their first date, it isn't awkward. They hold hands and try to go out bravely--the world isn't as open-minded as one wishes--and it feels comfortable. As if he takes out an old book to enjoy, or meeting someone again after a very long time.

They start to talk--and find that they often end up bickering. Not that he minds, he finds it rather enjoyable, finds it rather nice to finally relax and exchange banters and he's sure the American feels the same way.

They never once exchange names or pleasantries.

It is weeks and they are still going out. Marcia is surprised--but she's pleased, pleased to see that he's finally enjoying life, enjoying the love in the air--as he recalls her saying.

Antonio and Romana are pleased as well--Romana less so than Antonio because while Antonio is okay with homosexual relationships, Romana is a lot harder to get through.

But they're okay with it. Because they know--as Romana's friend--that she'll be okay in the end.

There are times when he wonders why he is so close to this man, why is he feels so comfortable, but when the American bends over and kisses him, those thoughts are thrown aside.

Still, he cannot help but wonder.

Once, he voiced this to the American and finds that his lover is having the same trouble, wondering why, and no longer wishing because the American has him.

And he feels glad to be with him and they don't question it--because they are together.

Dimly, he realizes that that ache is gone.
