This picture inspired Anon so much it hurt. Anon wants to thank OP for making this request and hopes OP enjoys!

Arthur was no stranger to myths. It wasn’t just about understanding their history, or communicating with magical creatures, it was a bond, a commitment of some sort.

They could trust each other.

Arthur had relied on this trust many times, sharing his heart and mind with the ones no one else could see. They stood by him in times of welfare, but mostly in times of pain. They were the warmth when he was cold, the love when he felt hate, the words when he stayed silent. He loved them deeply, truly and purely, in a way that could only be understood by the ones accepting this love, and returning it.

It was this love, that drew the creatures to the Nation, for it radiated, shining through him, and they had to do nothing but see his eyes and know he meant no harm.

With time, this ‘transparent’ family of his had grown, their bonds growing stronger with every passing day. One of these days, Arthur was approached by an unicorn he had known ever since he was born. They shared everything, joy and sorrow, and if Arthur had to name the creature that stood closest to his heart, it was that unicorn.

The animal pushed against Arthurs legs gently, trying to make him get up from his chair. Arthur put aside his book and looked at his friend in question.
“What’s the matter, is something wrong?”
The unicorn made a soft sound, and moved towards the door, urging its companion to follow him.

Trusting the mythical creature blindly, Arthur did.

He followed it for what had to be an hour at least, moving through a large forest, when they reached a large patch of bushes. The unicorn moved through the them and Arthur pushed some branches out of the way, eyes looking where his friend was going.

Once he emerged from the bushes, he had to take a moment, as his breath caught in his throat at the sheer beauty of what he was seeing.
He was standing in a small, grass field where sunlight managed to break through the leaves and light the ground with narrow, golden rays. Right in the center, there stood a tree, tall and proud and Arthur watched as the unicorn approached it.

Almost hesitant to follow, feeling like he was treading holy ground, Arthur moved towards the tree, eyes widening at what he discovered.

Under the tree, in the shadow of the stem, a young boy slept. His hair was golden and his skin was fair. He had a tail, and Arthur carefully reached out to touch it, feeling silk and snow. The boy had a long horn on his forehead, much like an unicorn, and Arthur stared in amazement.
His friend lay down next to the boy and nuzzled his hair with its nose.

Slowly, Arthur was understanding the situation.
“Is this.. a friend of yours..?” He asked softly, not wanting to wake the sleeping myth.
The unicorn managed somewhat of a nod, its eyes lovingly upon the boy. Then, it turned its gaze back to Arthur, and pleaded.

“You want me to.. take care of him?”
Again, confirmation. Arthur drew a deep breath, his mind still barely grasping what was happening in front of his one seeing eyes.

This boy was as much unicorn as he was human, yet this earthly influence would make him visible for everyone to see. He could not leave him here and take care of him from a distance, it would be too dangerous and too easy to see through. The only option he had right now was to take him home, and decide upon further actions there.

Arthur looked at his unicorn one last time, as if seeking support. The creature moved towards him and pushed its head softly against his legs. The Nation sighed, and smiled, knowing that now, it was his turn to be reliable. He bent down, and gathered the child in his arms, carrying him close to his chest.

It took him centuries to realize that he had fallen in love that very moment.
