Not in Kansas Anymore? [4/?]

"Right, right. Sorry. I've never been good at geography," America pinched the bridge of his nose. "So you can't exactly take him for a picnic on the steppe ... have you thought about getting him one of those lamp-box thingies? They're supposed to help with depression, or something."
America had always been a creative Nation; ideas just sometimes came to him out of nowhere (or as England might have said, the Universal Unconsciousness, but who cared what England said?). As Liet informed him that such devices were, in fact, called "light boxes," America had one such idea.
"Liet! There's a whole huge field right in the middle of my borders! It's warm now it's spring, and it has tons of corn fields and stuff."
"Really?" Liet sounded so relieved that America smiled. "And ... are there sunflowers?"
"Sunflowers! Hell, yeah! Whole fields of them!"
"Y--you don't think you could arrange ... for him to visit. Do you?"
Fuck no, America wanted to say. But his boss had told him to be extra-nice to all the Nations his previous boss had pissed off, and this, unfortunately included the big commie douchenozzle. "Actually yeah, I could. My boss has been telling me to spend more time with Nations like Russia lately. Only," he added, "I'll only say yes if I get to see you, too."
"He'll insist I come," Liet said cheerfully.
"Great! Then I'll book the tickets for you first thing in the morning." Which it technically was now, not that America was counting.
"I'll pack our bags," Liet practically chirped. "But America ... what is the name of this wonderful place?"
Even though nobody was watching America smiled his most heroic smile.
"This wonderful place? Why, it's called Kansas!"
And he flashed the empty room an enthusiastic, all-American thumbs up.

...XD. Kansas is the cure for Russian brand crazy. That is hilarious. Loved the bit about Italy. This is a really good story so far and I can't wait to see where it goes.

This is hysterical and wonderful. I love Alfred's feelings on his bosses - the sort of lazy grumpiness feels really genuine, much as it annoys me in my compatriots, and Alfred makes it amuzing.
The things other nations called him about? SO PRICELESS. Still loling.
Also, the US/Liet UST is delicious, and the complicated, painful affection between Liet and Russia is so beautiful!!! I love this anon. I can't wait for the rest.
