His temper rose again, and this time, Lovino didn't hold back. "You bastard!" he yelled, striking out with the now quite heavy bag of clothes and hitting Antonio again and again though the Spaniard tried to block the assault with his arms. As he hit, he was aware of the hot sting of tears gathering in his eyes. "Don't you ever do that again! Or I'll... I'll..." His unspoken threat trailed off into a sob, and the older nation was there to take him in his arms, to hold him through his frantic crying and cursing. Lovino had dropped his luggage onto the floor and was now beating on Antonio's chest continuously, sobbing into his shoulder while he heard more whispered, Spanish apologies in his ear.
How was he supposed to believe in Heaven when he had gone through Hell?
Once Lovino calmed down, Antonio leant over to pick up the fallen bag and smiled unhappily at him. "You should leave," he said quietly, and the Italian knew it caused him a great deal of pain to say that. Then, "But first... You haven't eaten much in days, have you?"
Lovino shook his head. His starvation was, surprisingly, more ignorable than the pain... though there was an unpleasant feeling in his stomach. Antonio's expression only fell more at the answer. One part of Lovino hoped the guilt was killing him inside, and another part felt guilty for thinking that.
"Sorry," Antonio was saying, leading him out of the bedroom and across the spacious house to the kitchen. Lovino followed him wordlessly; the Spaniard still had his luggage, after all. "I'll make toast."
Toast? Lovino's confusion must have shown on his face, for Antonio delicately explained, "It expands your stomach when you haven't eaten for a while."
Lovino's response consisted of a huff and a 'whatever.' He still wasn't convinced that in the next second the other nation wouldn't make a grab for the kitchen knives to stab Lovino with them. Lovino slumped sullenly into a chair with a hiss of pain, trying not to look at the wine-dark bruises Antonio's unrelenting grasp had made down the length of his arms as he folded them in front of him. His errant noise prompted a few guilty glances from Antonio, concern displayed openly on that expressive, handsome face.
Who knew such a devil lurked within that angel?
"I'll get something for you for the pain before you leave, so--"
"I'm not leaving." Lovino had made up his mind. Whatever had happened during the previous few days no longer affected Antonio now, and he loved the tomato bastard too much--he would never admit it--to not forgive him when he seemed to deeply regret what he did.
The surprise and confusion on Antonio's face was almost irritating. "But--"
"I said I'm staying, damnit," the Italian growled, lifting his head off his arms. "Just... you better make up for it. And don't let the toast burn, you jackass!"
Antonio snapped out of the daze he was slowly slipping into and hurried to get the toast. The slices were somewhat crispy, but Lovino ate them greedily regardless. Afterwards, he punched the other nation in the face for being so careless.
And all was normal.

"Lovi," Antonio whispered into his hair at night, much later, "me mantienes humano."

OMG I'm so happy for this sequel you don't even know.
Such good angst and smut all in one and that last line...it made me almost cry. Thanks for writing such a beautiful meme; it was absolute perfection <3
