The Rise of Britainnia [1/?] anonymous May 31 2009, 18:31:26 UTC
Gack, I have no idea if this is anything what anons want, but the idea was too good to pass up!

Arthur didn’t know when nor where Alfred - his dear, sweet Alfred- learned to fight so well that the older, seasoned fighter was feeling pushed back into a corner. And of course Francis had to side with the teen, supporting the Americans with enough arms for every citizen to use.

This was just one of the storehouses the British forces had been able to infiltrate, and God only knows how many more storehouses there were in the country. Sighing, Arthur kicked a pebble as he sat on a crate filled with what he assumed was gunpowder.

Wow, these are so neat! Can I really have them?

Arthur buried his head in his gloved hands, smelling leather, sweat and just a hint of blood.

I was wondering England. Do you want me to call you Brother?

It’s been thirteen long, extremely long years. What Arthur first coined as a simple bought of teenage rebellion grew into a full fledged war. Could his people really handle another war? It seemed like he was always constantly fighting, first France, now America.

I’m scared, England. Let me sleep with you!

But he can’t give up, he mustn’t. The loss of one colony would surely equate to the rest trickling away. And he couldn’t have that, that loneliness and powerlessness again. Never again, now that he’s known how great it is to be surrounded by people, to always have the knowledge that there were countries who depended on him for survival.

He can’t return to life without Alfred.

‘Do you wish to have power?’

Arthur stopped his thoughts, paused his breathing. There was no one in the room, Arthur made sure of it, ordering his soldiers to search the perimeters of this settlement for any remaining American forces. So who spoke those words?

‘I can grant you power.’

A woman’s voice, neither sweet nor gentle. It was a voice of a woman who knew her strength, the voice of a woman who already knew the answer to her question.

‘You desire the power to win. Power to control. Power to keep your family forever with you. I can grant you that power.

Don’t you want to end this war?’

There were still so many things Arthur didn’t know about himself as a nation. At the moment, Arthur discovered that nations didn’t need to breathe to survive, as he’s sure he hasn’t exhaled or inhaled since the voice first started speaking. Wetting his lips, Arthur closed his eyes and considered. Yes, he didn’t want to lose his family. And yes, he wanted dearly to finish this war and return back to the comfort of his home. But history has taught him that offers that seemed too good to be true often were. There had to be a catch.

“And I suppose you’ll have me do something for you in return for such a wish?”

The voice laughed. If Arthur was in any other situation than a war, he would’ve found the sound enchanting. “Yes. That is how this will work. You will have to grant me my wish.”

“And that would be?”

‘I cannot say.’

Arthur laughed harshly. He was expected to fulfill some girl’s wish in exchange for “can you really grant me the power to end this war?”without knowing what he was to fulfill?

“Open the crate you’re sitting on.”

Curiosity got the better of him. At the command, Arthur was already on his feet, looking for a crowbar of anything to act as a leverage to break the crate open. He settled for his bayonet. Sticking the bladed end through the hinge of the crate, he pushed. The lid was hoisted up easily, and the box began to glow and ethereal white.

A girl with long green hair tied into twin braids burst through the top, her hands tied behind her back and mouth gagged. Arthur gasped at the sight before him, and she smiled at the sound, soft, sweet and mysterious. Her eyes were golden, Arthur observes, like one of the fairies he’s constantly bothered by back home. Then the girl made a muffled sound and Arthur realized he should’ve attended to her; at least taken off the cloth that obstructed her mouth. The girl closed her eyes as the Englishman attended to the knots holding the her gag in place and her arms crossed behind her.

“There, now there bloody well better be an explanation as to why you’re-

“ Before Arthur could finish his demand, the girl pressed her pink lips to his, arms wrapped around the lithe figure to hold him close against her. Her forehead was glowing, a red ensign that looked like wings illuminated her face. Arthur was transfixed.

“You desire the power to keep your family. To expand your family. This power I will grant to you only if you fulfill my wish. Do you agree to this contract?”

A voice, her voice. It was reverberating in Arthur’s head. But this time Arthur didn’t hesitate, he could already feel the power coursing through him- he was less wary, more alert. “I agree.”

“Then I grant you the power of kings.” And as the words were spoken, horrific images of death and life, destruction and order were displayed, and Arthur felt warmness coursing through his entire being. Just as quickly as it began though, it stopped and the girl was already smiling at him, no shame of the abrupt kiss showing on her face.

The door burst open, and three of his soldiers entered, dragging with them two Americans. “Sir! We found them hiding in the woods, what should we do-“

“Arms down, scoundrels! She’s an acquaintance of mine, and I will not tolerate anyone treating her with contempt and making her feel endangered.” Arthur ordered when the three British soldiers had registered the green hair girl behind the country and were pointing their arms at her. “And as for those American bastards, leave them here. An interrogation is in order.”

The British nodded, and stood aside to give their leader better access to the Americans. Arthur walked calmly towards the two clad in red, smiling kindly. “You are captured by the British army as prisoners of war. I’m sure you know the special treatment our prisoners get, but just for the two of you, if you can tell me where your other storehouses are, you will be free to go.”

One of them, the one already bruised badly on both eyes, spat at Arthur’s shoes. The other smirked. “We’ll sooner eat a frog than tell you Brits anything.”

“Really? ”Arthur grinned madly, bending to his knees so that he could see both soldiers squarely in the eyes. “But I must insist, tell me where the rest of your storehouses are.”

“As you wish, Sir."

I hope this was okay? Should I continue, Anons? And anon here is Canadian, she knows beans about the American revolution, only the basics. So forgive me if I got some details messed up!D:

Yes, continue! Please continue~
OP was beginning to lose hope in this ever getting filled, so seeing this wonderful intro is certainly a pleasant surprise!

I'm really interested in seeing where the story will be going and even though I'm curious as to what Arthur will do to Alfred, I also want to see what he does with Francis, Matthew and the other nations. Don't leave us hanging, kind anon!

Seconding OP--please continue, author!anon! I love the setup you've given us. And please don't worry about your knowledge of the American Revolution; in the experience of this American!anon, most Americans don't seem to know more than the basics about that war. You can always claim poetic license for this, at any rate. ♥
