France, his azure eyes glimmering with tears
“ S’il vous plait, papa, I’m not sleepy yet”
France sighed “ we’ll wake your brother up…Non, Mathieu, enough is enough” The child pouted, his bear clutched tightly in his arms, puffing his cheeks out stubbornly, he turned around so that his back faced the older nation.
“Mathieu?”

Francis scowled momentarily, but a fond smile broke through, he gave a small chuckle and plopped down on the bed next to the sulking colony. He grasped the boy by the middle and pulled him closer, the boy ignored him, stiffening to make it harder for Francis to move him. France leaned over, putting his face close to the boy’s. he smiled.
Matthew grimaced, trying to maintain his frown, but the steady gaze of France’s laughing blue eyes made it difficult, his control broke, and as he smiled, he flushed and buried his head into his bear. Francis smiled good naturedly down at the boy.
“ooohh, I see you smiling~~~ Mathieu~~u,”
“ Papa! Arrête!”
“ Oui, oui, Mon petite chaton.”
“ Will you sing again for me, papa?”
“Once more, but you have to be asleep by the end”
The boy nodded. France rolled back on to his back, as Canada scooted closer to snuggle up against him. With a last amused glance at the child, France closed his eyes and began to sing, his voice even and soothing.
“La petite poule grise, Quallait pondre dans l'église…”
