America nodded. “Yeah! I mean, what with the brain drain and Communism it was pretty obvious that you guys had no chance of winning in the first place, so why drag it out? Let’s just call it a day and, you know, be buddies again!”
“…And what precise does Communism have to do with this?”
That was funny. It felt like the average temperature in the room dropped a few billion degrees (Fahrenheit, none of that Celsius stuff that Canada uses). “Well…” America scratched his head and felt uncomfortable. “I was about to talk about that. I mean, I’d love for us to be friends again, but you’ve really got to ditch the whole Communism plan. It’s just… it just…”
“Just what?”
“Even with your boss out of the picture, the entire idea… it can’t really… I mean, not everyone’s the same! What about Heroes like me? We wouldn’t get any recognition with the whole…” America trailed off as he tried to think of a better way to phrase it all. His wet pants were starting to feel disgustingly sticky. “You know what I mean, right?”
“Communism is a fine idea,” Russia said simply, his voice as cold as the country’s winters. “It is a fine idea that grants my citizens equality and -”
“In Soviet Russia,” America said, having heard Russia’s boring explanation many times before, “Equality grants you.”
Russia’s smile disappeared. “America.”
“You are the country!” America said, desperate. “The ideologies belong to you! Your people are suffering because - because -! You rule Communism! That means you can -!” But the last few words from him were cut off by Russia grabbing his tie and pulling him close until America could see, beyond that composed face, all the fury and madness in those violet eyes of his.
“In Soviet Russia,” the country said, his voice as sweet refined sugar, “Communism rules you.”
Two weeks later, Soviet troops invaded Afghanistan.

PFFFFFFFFFT. I came so close to reenacting the coffee scene on that one. I had to pause for a minute and let it sink in; it was very poignant and unexpected and just hilarious, like this whole thing.
