Belle ete Bete - Act 1 Scene 2 anonymous February 1 2009, 01:38:25 UTC
Act 1
Belle

Not too far from this castle, there was a small village. Though they lived so near by, the people of this village had never heard the tragic tale of Lovino, or of the enchantress Ivan who threatened to take them all over one day. The people were happy to go about their lives, never giving question to anything that happened outside their walls.

One villager did, however. The beautiful, if lazy, Antonio who was known throughout the town as strange, no question. There was no denying, as far as they were concerned, that he was a funny one. Antonio rarely noticed this however, as he was always far too preoccupied with either sleeping, eating, or helping his Papa with his latest music creation.

One morning he left their small house just at the outskirts of the town, bent on delivering a book back to the bookshop that he had borrowed months prior about sauces. A spring in his step and a song on his tongue, he set off towards his destination, breaking fully into open song.

"Little town, it's a quiet village. Every day, like the one before. Little town, full of little people. Waking up to say..."

He was interrupted by several of the locals, who at that moment decided to greet him, in homage to his tune. "Bonjour, Bonjour,Bonjour, Bonjour, Bonjour!" The baker passed by, too busy with the same old breads and rolls to sell, to do anything other than nod his head curtly as a greeting.

"Every mornings just the same, since the morning that we came, to this poor provincial town." Antonio noted to himself, shaking his head slightly, smiling all the same. Any morning that he had ever walked into this village, everyone went about their daily work like clockwork. It lost its appeal after a while, but it was still quaint to watch from time to time.

But Antonio had other ideas, other dreams for his life. Just because no one had, to his knowledge, left to live outside the village before did not mean he didn't have to be the first. He had read enough about the different new and exciting lands out there to know his life was being wasted where it was.

He chatted with the baker for a moment or two, though he was quickly dismissed in favor of baguettes. He shrugged this off, as he was used to it all too well and set off yet again, day dreaming as he went.

Today was such a pleasant day, Antonio knew he should take things slowly, not that he ever really rushed any thing to begin with. He was so preoccupied watching the clouds as he strolled by that he barely noticed the locals talking about him as they usually did.

'Look there he goes, that boy is strange no question. Dazed and distracted, can't you tell?
Never part of any crowd. Cause his head's up on some cloud. No denying he's a funny one, that Antonio!' He caught between whispers as he went on deeper into the heart of the village where the bookshop lay. Smiling to himself as he reached the shop, he said loud enough for anyone listening to hear.

"There must be more than this provincial life!"

In the bookshop he returned the book that he had been meaning to give back for more than half a year now, smiling as sweetly as he could at the owner, trying to get on his good side so he wouldn't have to pay for the thing. In the end his smile won the old man over and he ended up leaving with a new book, this one all on spices.

With nothing else planned for the next while, Antonio set off for his favorite spot to sit and read at, a fountain at the very center of the town. The running water was peaceful and it made a very relaxing spot to spend time at. More than once in his life, he had fallen asleep at this place, once actually falling into the water and almost drowning.

Settling himself down, still oblivious to the banter going on around him, he delved into the book, consuming it word for word. Perpetually drooling at the thought of some of the tastes these spices could make.

"Look there he goes. That boy is so peculiar! I wonder if he's feeling well?"

"With a dreamy far-off look, and his nose stuck in a book! What a puzzle to the rest of us is Antonio!"

"Behind that fair facade, I'm afraid he's rather odd, very different from the rest of us...
He's nothing like the rest of us. Yes different from the rest of us he is. "
