Number One Princess in the World [1/?] anonymous January 11 2009, 18:03:44 UTC
Anon: Oh god, I haven't written a fic in about two years now, but this thing really inspired me. Only I'm totally out of practice. Lol lol /shot Hope it doesn't make your eyes bleed.

Over the many years that Arthur had been around, he had known of the several nicknames he had been given. Most, usually, courtesy of Francis.Ones that were usually insulting or at least demeaning and or annoying.

Yes, there had been a few fairly okay ones, but those were ancient, outdated even and came from that era in time of when Arthur was the scourge of the seas. So, by right, those names had never been used around him in many hundreds of years.

It was just not proper for an English Gentleman after all.

But out of the many names he had acquired over the years, the most insulting, the most demeaning and in general; the most embarrassing one was quite new and quite private.

Alfred, that stupid stuck up American, had decided that it would be rather amusing to call him that.

Just because of one flippant afternoon where Arthur had gone on about his new hair style and new shoes; and how Alfred had barely seemed to notice anything at all.

As usual for the man, really.

But Arthur had been rather proud of those new shoes, a sensible pair, in brown leather with a handsome buckle strap.
So he had said one little word to Alfred, merely trying to get his attention, but he had gotten a reply back with three more words. That had infuriated him to no end.

'Okay okay Princess'

What did that have to do with anything anyway? Arthur still didn't know. It was not like he was acting like a princess at all. He just wanted Alfred to pay him some attention where attention was due. Why should he be punished with such a name, that Alfred now always called him when no one else was in hearing range, because of someone-else's selfish tendencies?

Maybe...Maybe he thinks I'm cute? Arthur mused silently to himself, running a finger up and down the keys on his cell phone, not pressing hard enough to actually dial in a number, just for something to do with his hand.
Cute?! What the hell was he thinking? Cute indeed!

Shaking his head, he put the phone back in his pocket, not before checking it unconsciously, again, to see if he had somehow missed a call. There was no way Alfred would ever think he was cute. Not that he would want that to be thought about himself anyway. He was England. England was many things, but cute was not one of them and Arthur would be damned if a country like America started to think that about him.

What am I even doing? he thought scornfully as he took his phone back out again. No, he was not checking to see if he'd gotten any messages, dammit. The thing would make noise if he had anyway. Still, he checked anyway, glaring at the screen for a few minutes before keying in a number.

"Being an-" The call connected. "-idiot." Silence.

Arthur winced, taking in a short sharp breath. Mortifying. The timing could not have been worse. True, usually, he called Alfred 'idiot' and a lot worse; But not when he was trying to be polite. His honor would be at stake here.

"Ah that is to say... What I mean is...I..." he started, flustered. But he could think of nothing else to say after that. Why had he even called in the first place? He couldn't recall any reason for it. Maybe in actuality he was the self-centered one. Though he had not really said anything selfish. Perhaps, this time around, it would be alright for Alfred to scold him... A little. It would only be fair, really.

No. No it would not. He needed to get his thoughts together, this was ridiculous. And Alfred still had yet to say anything. The silence dragged on, the white static hum between the connection getting louder and louder in Arthur's ear.

Until, just like that, there was a click and the call was disconnected. Arthur glared at his phone speechlessly, not really able to accept the fact that he had just been cut off. Had Alfred even been there to begin with? It didn't matter, it was a stupid thing to think on.
