A Visit on Independence day

I'M SORRY IF THIS NOT HAPPY ENOUGH. I tried. I got carried away. > <
_________ It was a beautiful day in Riga, the capital of Latvia. Latvia stood on the balcony, inhaling the fresh air of his house. Ah, so relaxing... he had forgotten how calm it is in his own house. Living too long with Russia does that to you. Living without Russia-san is the happiest!
Suddenly the bell rang. He walked away from the balcony, towards the door. Ah, that must be Estonia and Lithuania! They said they would celebrate my independence today!
As he opened it, to his horror, it was, "R-Russia-san?"
The man stood in front of his door, carrying the pipe he always had in his hand. "Hi~ Latvia-kun!" Russia said, laughing. That horribly familiar laugh sent Latvia to his old shivering self. "How are you?"
"I-- um.. er.. f-fine!" Latvia answered. "Wh-what are you d-doing here, Russia-san?"
Russia's smile faded. "I'm getting lonely, Latvia-kun..." he said. "Everyone's leaving me. Lithuania, Estonia... and now you, too."
To Latvia's surprise, Russia looked really sad by now. Close to tears, actually. He realized that despite what Russia had done to him and his brothers, Russia really do think of them as his friend. At times like these, Latvia felt less afraid of him. He almostpitied him.
A silence between the two for a little while. Latvia decided to move first. He approached Russia and gave the big guy a short hug.
Russia, who isn't used to affectionate moves like that, didn't know how to react. He stood still as Latvia released him.
Latvia looked firmly at his former dictator (at least, that's what he thinks of Russia), and said, "Don't worry, Russia-san!"
Russia stared at him, surprised. Latvia continued, "I might be independent now, but..." He paused, looking for the right words, "...I will always be your friend!"
As he finished the line, Latvia's heart was thumping hard. I hope I didn't give him any ideas... Not going to his house again... no... He tried to look as tough as possible while shivering.
Russia's face turned into a small, light-hearted smile. A smile that no one could be sure of the meaning.
"...Thank you, Latvia-kun."
And he turned to walk away Latvia's door. Latvia sighed in great relief, but just as he did so Russia turned his head.
"Sure you don't want to be one with Russia again?" he asked.
Latvia screamed, "NO!" and slammed the door.
Russia, laughed, walking away. At least he promised to be my friend... Hee hee!
