He walked into the conference room, a file case in hand, and approached where America sat with unusually thoughtful expression on his face. When Japan cleared his throat to notify his presence, the blond man finally looked up at him.

“Good afternoon.” The short Asian man greeted and the American replied back with a tired grin. He sat across the table from the American, his drafts for a new constitution laid out to be examined. But the other still seemed to be preoccupied, his mind somewhere else.

“…Is there something on your mind, America-san?”

America looked at him like he had swallowed a particularly large fly, his eyes downcast and exhausted. He scratched back of his head nervously before replying.

“Well… you know that girl who lives next door to you…”

His bandaged hands gripped the papers tighter - the white paper made smallest winkles.

“She had to be divided. That damn Russia just wouldn’t back out - and I couldn’t just let him take the whole peninsula. She got really mad at it though …”

He set the papers down and stared into America’s eyes with carefully controlled neutrality. But his voice shook slightly. “That is … most unfortunate for her.”

A much too long and frightening ache unrelated to his injuries grabbed a hold of his chest. And it - it wouldn’t let him breathe properly.

Of course, ignoring it was the best course of action.

She let out a shaky pant as she raced past the herd of people gathered in front of the Han River Bridge, all of them evacuating from their home. It was almost the end of June so her hanbok cling heavily on her as she began to sweat.

This couldn’t be happening.

The northern part of her - The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea was what they called themselves - attacked in the middle of night and they didn’t seem to have any hesitation on attacking their brethrens. The cities were ordered to evacuate - families and soldiers crowded the road to the South. Everyone was unsure; everyone was scared.

It was a pure chaos.

Her mind was racing - it felt like it might burst any minute. When she finally crossed over the bridge, she was heard a cry of horrified disbelief from a nearby soldier. He held a handheld transceiver in his trembling hands; he looked like had seen a ghost.

“S-sir?! But there are still civilians on the bridge! W-we can’t take it out now!”

At those words, her mind went completely blank.

His commander barked back from the other side of the transceiver, his voice sharp and frustrated. “There is no time! Just … Just take out the bridge NOW.”

Wait, but there are … there are innocent people there - women, seniors, kids, babies -

The bridge went out with a brilliant and powerful explosion. The swarm of people separated, running desperately to the either side of bridge. Many didn’t make it to the end and people fell like rag dolls with the bridge’s debris and into the deep river.

Korea slumped down to the ground numbly.

She wished someone would hold her hand gently.
