Re: The I Side of the Table -- Part 3/? anonymous April 27 2012, 05:42:08 UTC
All in all, if he thought (deeply) about it, his seat-mates weren’t all that bad.

The first few meetings had been hard, but after awhile, it became almost normal for him. Iran, Iraq, and Israel tried their best not to hit anybody but the intended target (which included each other, America, occasionally Egypt, and several others, but certainly did not include England on a good day. Last year was the result of Ireland and India being incredibly sly) while India was always pleasant.

He also knew that Indonesia liked Japan’s manga books (truthfully, he as much an otaku as Japan and America, but he’s quieter about it) and was actually what Japan would call a ‘tsundere’ (Iceland cursed Hong Kong for introducing the term to him, but it fitted at the moment), like Romano, except he was calmer about it. Looking at it that way, it was unbelievable how similar the island nation’s relationship with a certain former colonizer and a certain other European pair was.

Whoever thought Indonesia’s icy demeanor come from being colonized obviously didn’t remember that Japan also colonized him. The two island nations got along just fine now. Not that the Netherlands noticed anything, it seems, with the occasional guilty look thrown to Australia’s neighbor.

As for Ireland, he knew that she didn’t hate England, but did hold a grudge against him. She thought of him as an annoying younger brother, but would never do things that hurt him too badly. He knew she was very friendly with France, not enough to be dating, but close enough to plan pranks together. She was also a lot more relaxed and playful than most nations thought. That was one of the many reasons she got along so well with Indonesia and India.

India, he knew less despite spending a lot more time with him. He was always smiling, and most of the time it was sincere, but there were times it become strained as well. He, like Ireland, did not hate England, but enjoyed a good prank. He also liked to cheer up people in his own way, like with Prussia during Halloween, or with Jamaica after the incident three days ago (nobody was quite sure what happened, but France was involved and that was more than enough information).

Indonesia and Ireland were nice too, when they were not continuously scaring everybody with their dark aura, creepy spell-casting and even creepier laughs or cursing somebody to stub their toes every five minutes. Moreover, they remembered him plainly as Iceland (being separated from the other Nordics tend to do that) and not as somebody’s brother. Not to mention, Indonesia and India sometimes brought some snacks. Being near them meant he didn’t have to wait to try it.

Not the best seat, but it certainly better than having Korea or Russia (but Indonesia once told him the Slavic nation wasn’t that bad. He’s still suspicious, though) next to him.

Iceland wasn’t close to them like he was to his family (as much as he would deny being related to Denmark, yes, they were his family after all), but they were not exactly strangers either. He had been seated near them for quite some time now (humans would say forever, but let’s take a middle road and say several centuries) and he learned quite a lot about the other six.

There were a lot of things Iceland noticed about the others, things that he was sure most nations missed. Like the fact that India and Indonesia, despite being all smiles and friendliness, could be quite evil when they wanted to be. There’s a very good reason they become such good friend with Ireland, who was rather known to be a very ferocious woman when she wanted to be, and it wasn’t mere pleasantness.

Or the fact that Iran and Iraq did not fight all the time, as they occasionally (and secretly, of course) hit the bar together and come back to the hotel in the wee hour of the morning (the idiot who seated them must had arranged their rooms as well; it was exactly the same as their seating!). While they would leave the meeting together, Israel usually wait several moments before joining them. It would surprise a lot of nations, but Iceland knew better.

They were tired of fighting and bickering non-stop as well. Just like England and France, but nobody probably notice it, considering how hostile they were normally. Like him, Indonesia, India, and Ireland noticed it, but kept their mouth shut as well. None of them were known to be gossipers anyway (and the trio’s glinting blades helped convincing them not to).

Iceland was violently dragged back to reality from his musing by India, pushing him away from a stray projectiles (it looked like flying cups and plates, but he couldn’t be too sure). He thanked the nation and quickly they retreat to the safety of Indonesia’s back.

“Ha! And dressed like that you want to comment on MY clothing?!”

“Oh, and what do you mean by that, you brat?!??!”

“You both dressed horrendously! Just by looking at you two I-“

Iraq was cut-off by a flying ink bottle, black liquid splattering on his cheek. They went back to bickering loudly with what sounded like France in background, making cat-calls and encouraging a cat-fight. It was a usual day at the meeting.

Iceland sighed.

“Hey, Iceland” Indonesia said, finally finished with his curse for the day. He was smiling warmly, as he always did whenever the Netherlands wasn’t near. Next to him, Ireland was also leaning in, red bangs hiding her thick eyebrows and framing her bright green eyes.

“Do you want to come with us after this? Iran, Iraq, and Israel will also come, and promised not to fight. We’re going see India’s traditional dance and then I’m going to cook for all of us. How about it? We won’t force you, but I think a little time away from the other Nordics won’t kill you.” he finished, half-joking with the last sentence.

On his other side, India also smiled warmly, invitingly. “We figured that since we’ve been seat-mates for so long and probably even longer after this, it won’t be so bad to actually be friends, right? We can talk more freely outside the meeting.” He said cheerfully.

It was fleeting, but Iceland swore that Israel winked at him.

Indonesia, seeing as Iceland wasn’t quite convinced yet, added. “Won’t you like to try my food? We’re both island nations, so we have a lot in common. My dishes also mainly focused on fishes, but a lot on vegetables and plants too. No sharks, though.”

Ireland pushed India to the side roughly. “I’ll tell you the reason because these two are too afraid to tell you.” she motioned to the sheepish nations on her side, “We think you’ve been working too hard. You look tired when you entered and we could hear you typing away until very late last night.”

Iceland blinked. He had been trying to be very quiet as not to disturbed anybody. Apparently, it wasn’t quite enough.

He looked at the three around him and the three throwing things around, and then he smiled. Perhaps the only one watching wasn’t only him. Perhaps they watched him as well in return, to notice that.

Being the youngest of the (rather exclusive) Nordic meant that he rarely had the chance leave their side and get to know other nations. Maybe it would be better this way. Deciding that befriending nations other than the Nordics and Hong Kong wouldn’t be so bad, he answered sincerely “Yes, I’ll be happy to come with you.”

Their beaming smile told him it wouldn’t be so bad.

Maybe he would stop cursing the arranger so much now (but the seating was still kind of idiotic, considering all the hostile pairs being seated near each other).

(Several seats away, Germany sneezed loudly, but continued to hopelessly bring order to the chaotic meeting)

A/N : It became so much longer than I intended. If anybody is OOC, I'm sorry, especially for Iceland. It maybe disjointed and strange at times, that's because I mixed the two drafts I made. Anyway, I'm happy if at least one person likes this. Any horrible grammar/tenses/writing you found here is entirely mine. I hope this doesn't steer too far from the original request...

*Iz screaming coz you wrote about Indonesia*

How do you know so much about him? Haha from his otaku-ness to his affinity to black magic, and his long, long history of colonisation (four centuries who am I even kidding).

Not so sure if he is tsundere tho. Indonesians are mostly friendly.

And Israel-Iran-Iraq i-hate-you-but-not-really relationship is sweet.

I like that it ties in with the previous fills :)

Three paras were repeated in 3/5 and 4/5 tho, fyi.

Loving it!

Thank you. Sorry about the repeat, I just caught that after posting it.

My dear OC!Indonesia is nice and friendly to any, especially Russia, but only tsundere for the Netherlands. This is my personal headcanon. (But after writing this I become convinced that he's good with Ireland too, mostly because I come to love her here. It'd be a funny love triangle, with both side pointing to Indonesia)

I don't know much about Iran-Iraq-Israel, but I refused to believe them as entirely hostile and would like some niceness in their character and relationship.

(and the tied in is mandatory. I just couldn't leave poor Germany out without torturing him more)

Thank you for reading this!
