America wondered how they were going to get the three nations onto the ground floor, England and Belarus barely being able to stand on their own, let alone climb downstairs.

A sight at the bottom of the stairs made all of America's thoughts irrelevant.

"Good morning. It seems that someone has cheated on the game," the General said cordially but the gun in his hand suggested everything but politeness. With his bodyguards' weapons, the nations were now standing down the barrel of three guns.

"This isn't good," Romano whispered, more to himself than anyone present, but all the other nations heard him clearly.

"Of course not," Belarus hissed back. She tried to straighten up but went back to leaning on Romano, panting quietly. America was scared of the General, or rather, he was scared of what the man could do to them, but England, Belarus and Hungary had been held hostage by him. America could feel the waves of tension running through England's body even as he leaned on America and knew he would prefer to die than to go back into that room again.

"I think you cheated on the game first," England said to the General coolly and America picked up his train of thought.

"The bombs, the cameras, the taking hostages? Not really a sign of a mighty hunter." America let his voice gain a mocking tone to it. If the General became angry, he would make mistakes. Any one of the nations would recover from a bullet wound but it would put them out of action for a while.

"The greatest hunter knows how to adapt to suit his prey," the General replied easily, even though he shifted his weight slightly. America's sharp eyes caught it. It appeared that the General was uneasy with having to use 'unsporting' methods.

"You didn't expect us to come directly to your house, were you?" America asked and the General conceded this with a nod.

"I thought you would stay away from somewhere there is a possibility of death. Then again, you are nations and I have always wondered how nations react with their own mortality. Does it affect your actions?"

"He would have had more guards on the house if he had expected us to attack here," Romano said, eyeing the two large bodyguards apprehensively. The General smiled and Romano's eyes snapped back to him.

"That is true. I expected that you would attack, but out in the forest rather than here. Then again, I expected weak little South Italy being attacked to slow everyone down." The General's pleasure at this vindictive statement was obvious and Romano went white.

"What do you know about strength?" Hungary asked in a flare of anger. "You hide behind your gun and your bodyguards and think yourself stronger than Romano? Stronger than any of us?" The General's smile had disappeared now and there was a feeling of satisfaction in that.

"Not necessarily stronger. Smarter definitely. I invented the Game and so I invented the rules. It is strategy that I did not inform you of all of them at the start." America knew he had been right at the start of everything. Not knowing was the worst thing.

"Clear," England said in a horrified whisper. America had a second to remember what that meant before he reached across England, intending to take hold of Hungary and pull both her and England back from the edge of the stairs. The movement was sudden and the shot was fired before anyone even had time to think. The familiar pain was beginning to make itself felt in his chest as he pulled Hungary and England back as they convulsed. After that, America let himself fall to the ground, the gunshot wound to the chest taking its toll.

"America," England gasped frantically, his hand prodding at the wound and causing America to groan in pain.

"Leave off," America muttered as he sank down so he could lie on the floor. It was much more comfortable that way.

"I'm going to take the bullet out, America," England warned and America nodded. Or, he nodded an approximate version of a nod. The fingers were painful but quick and America sighed in relief when it was out of him. No need for his body to heal over the bullet, dying and coming back were painful enough.

"It's very unfortunate. He was such talented prey." America could hear the General speak before everything faded out. Hopefully the situation would be improved when he woke up.

Blame character limits for this stupid little bit. Also captcha is really starting to annoy me. And I have a strange desire to write Romano/Hungary and Romano/Belarus.

Notes: headcanon is that if nations are killed by a human method (gun shot wound, strangulation, disease etc), they'll wake up after their body heals. Headcanon also states that nations are fast healers and their bodies are slower to degenerate. Hence why England, Hungary and Belarus are not unconscious from the electric shocks or hallucinating from the dehydration.

For America getting shocked when he was touching England, I was going with the first aid rule that if you think someone has been shocked and they're still in contact with the thing that caused it, you need to move it away before you touch the person because the current is still running through the body and you can be shocked to. It won't be as bad as the original person but you don't know how high the electric current and everyone reacts differently to electricity in the body anyway.

Makes perfect sense that America's the first one down. Now, they play room to room stalking rather than the old-fashioned hunt the General wanted. Looking forward to it!

All of your guys are amazing. I love your comments and we're almost finished! I hope everyone enjoys this update.

After America went limp, either falling unconscious or his heart had stopped beating, everything seemed to happen very quickly. England was just laying America's head down on the floor (no point in him being uncomfortable when he woke up) when another gun shot brought his head up sharply. He looked around to see the General bent over in pain and both bodyguards on the ground with a smiling Russia and a fierce-looking Canada standing over them.

"We are sorry that we're late," Russia said, smiling up at the other nations. All five of them were on the ground, England, Belarus and Hungary from the electric shocks, America due to his wound and Romano was there because Belarus had pulled him down with her.

"Brother," Belarus said in the happiest voice that England had heard from her.

"What happened?" Austria and Veneziano appeared out of a side corridor, Austria still holding a smoking gun. Veneziano eyed the General warily but inched around the wounded man to hurry up the stairs.

"Romano, are you alright?" Veneziano asked and Romano waved him off with an irritated glare.

"I wasn't the one held hostage," Romano retorted and England eyed him. Centuries of working with politicians and even longer of knowing the other nations and he was very good at picking up what people were really feeling. It was the same with nearly all the nations, especially the older ones. England had known Romano a long time and at the moment, he was feeling guilty for some reason. It seemed that Veneziano and Hungary were picking up the same thing.

"You did get hit over the head though," Veneziano answered, poking at his brother to see if he could catch a glimpse of the back of Romano's head.

"When did that happen?" Hungary asked in surprise. England wanted to roll his eyes but Belarus said something first.

"It was after we got kidnapped." Her tone of voice caused Hungary to glare at her but everyone's attention was drawn back to the sound of the General pulling himself upwards. His right arm was pulled close to his body, staining his suit with bright red blood but his left hand was just as steady holding the gun.

"Didn't anyone disarm him?" England asked under his breath. America's heart had stopped beating, he would wake up soon but for once, England hoped that he would have a sense of timing. If the General discovered that being killed would only knock them out for a short while, then there was nothing stopping him from shooting them all and then locking them back in the room, complete with the electric shock bracelets from everyone.

England was not going back into that room and there was no way he was going to let some human (who wasn't even English, he knew that for a fact) put any of the other nations in that room either.

Austria stared at the smug looking General, both of their guns levelled at each other.

"Now neither of us can shoot - " The General's words were cut off as Canada put his hands together and brought them down onto the General's head. The man dropped like a stone and made England wonder whether Canada had any of super strength that America had.

There was a moment of silence as everyone stared down at the unconscious (or dead) General.

"I guess now would be a good time to say that our bosses are now aware of our situation and are sending a plane for us now?" France said smoothly as he and Spain came into view through an open doorway. He seemed to be speaking to everyone but his eyes remained fixed on Canada, who flushed brilliantly.

"It figures that you'll arrive just as the fighting's finished," England commented acidly, but turned his attention back to America. No matter how much he understood what was happening, it was still uncomfortable seeing an unconscious America with his chest stained with blood.

"Does anyone have anything to tie him up? I really would prefer no more unpleasant surprises," Austria asked and Spain pulled out a roll of grey tape from his pocket. He, Russia and Canada set to work tying up the General and his two bodyguards and England could feel himself relax slowly as the three men were secured. Normally the gun shots would have attracted attention but it seemed that the servants were used to such noises and no one came running.

"America," Canada said as he raced up the stairs, finally happy that the General was not going to be able to do anything to stop him. "How is he? When was he shot?"

"His heart's stopped and I've removed the bullet. I'm not sure but he should wake up in about thirty minutes," England answered. He took America's hand and started to stroke the back of it almost unconsciously.

"I think it might be even faster," Canada added, pushing America's shirt apart at the hole so he could examine the bullet wound. It had already stopped bleeding and new tissue was starting to fill the hole. "America's always been a fast healer." England conceded the point, America was a powerful nation and wounds always healed quicker when you were top of the world. It was one of the things that England missed about being an Empire. England's thoughts were derailed when another electric shock passed through his body.

"Can someone please get these things off us?" England said through gritted teeth. It would be nice to have America awake, the General in custody and the electric shock bracelet off all at once.

"What are these things?" Veneziano asked in a horrified voice but England was too busy examining the bracelet for weaknesses to care about someone else's emotions at the moment. After he had a drink of water and there was no chance of getting electric shocks at random times, he would be a lot more sympathetic.

"Bracelets that give electric shocks every several minutes. The General put them on us after he kidnapped us," Hungary explained and England admired her patience. Romano had not let go of Belarus, not hearing the warning in all the excitement and was curled up as he too recovered from the shock.

"How do we get them off?" Canada asked as the rest of the nations joined them at the top of the stairs, Russia dragging the General with him. It seemed that no chances were being given to let the General get away.

"We don't know," Belarus said angrily. She pushed herself and tried to get to her feet before falling back down again. There were several worried looks, Belarus was not one of the nations that would admit to any weakness and so her condition must be severe. Russia, looking more concerned than nearly all of the nations had ever seen, knelt down next to Belarus to examine her ankle bracelet. With a small, careful squeeze, the bracelet split into two and fell to the floor.

Eyes wide, England and Hungary immediately offered their ankle bracelets and Russia snapped them as well. Their ankles were red and there was a circle burned on all their ankles. Now that the bracelets were off though, they should heal quickly.

"That's great, but let's not tell America," England muttered, even though several of the nations would delight in telling America after he woke up, namely Russia.

"Thank goodness they're off," Hungary said, smiling as she looked at her ankle even though Veneziano, Romano and Austria around her were looking at the burned flesh in horror. Belarus was smiling up at Russia with hero-worship in her eyes and for once, Russia was smiling back at her.

"I'm happy that you are safe, sister," Russia said, a childlike smile on his face that caused France and Spain to inch away from him.

"Can we get downstairs? I would like to leave this island as soon as possible and I think the General is starting to wake up." Romano tried to make his voice sound demanding and tough but the nervous look he sent to the General made it obvious what he was feeling. The other nations agreed with this assessment and the group slowly moved downstairs. Russia moved the General, taking no care to avoid bumping his head on the stairs. He remarked to France that it was a shame that the stairs were carpeted, it was less likely to cause brain damage that way. They decided to wait outside on the garden, scaring away the remaining servants with the guns they had taken off the General and his bodyguards.

"So now we wait," France said, leaning against a surprised looking Canada. There were several glares as the General stirred but then their attention was drawn elsewhere.

"Whose is coming to help us?" Hungary asked as she tested out her strength by making circles around Romano, who had collapsed onto the grass.

"We are in the Pacific Ocean apparently. I contacted my boss, who was in America at the time of our abduction and has not left. He is informing the other bosses and flying a plane over to here. I told him to look for a giant mansion on the south of the island but he's got our coordinates."

"Home soon," Veneziano said happily, sitting down next to Romano with a happy smile.

"And America's waking up," Canada said quietly and somehow, managed to attract everyone's attention. He could get used to that. He gently shook America awake.

"Oh God, please say that the General's gone and we're home again," America groaned before he even opened his eyes. England rolled his eyes and Canada grinned. America was obviously fine.

"We have knocked the General out while you were sleeping and we are waiting to go home," Russia decided to inform America, causing him to groan.

"And Russia's here too. Canada, please at least tell me England's here as well?" England went furiously red and France and Spain keeled over in silent laughter. Austria watched the two of them rolling on the ground with amusement. They had come this far and it was interesting to see how some people released the tension.

"America, just open your eyes," Canada said firmly and America reluctantly followed his brother's orders. He grinned brightly as soon as he saw England.

"Hi." England grinned just as much at America's greeting, even though his cheeks were still coloured red.

"I don't think they could be more adorable if they tried," Hungary whispered to Austria who had to nod in agreement. He only hoped that it would reduce some of the regular bickering; between England and America at least.

"So bullet wounds aren't as fatal for nations as they are for humans." A soft voice caused nearly all the nations to jump and spin around. The General was awake and staring at America with a hungry look in his eyes. Canada and England inched in front of America with fierce expressions on their faces as they blocked the General's view. "How is it possible?" The General asked and there was silence for a moment.

"It's none of your fucking business," Romano said violently and Hungary knocked the General out for a second time. Just after she did this, the sound of a helicopter could be heard.

"About time," Belarus said.

"Yes!" America cheered. "We're getting off the island."

One last part to go! It should be up hopefully in the next couple of weeks but we are all familiar with my updating so it might be slightly longer. Please let me know what you think.

Woo! This has been such a great fill. So much plot. I just wish you'd used Austria's point of view when he shot the General. I would have loved to know what was going through his mind.

I'm really surprised they haven't killed the General. He's already proved he's capable of kidnapping them and incapacitating them. Now that he's seen their capabilities in action, he'll know how to hunt them even better. And knowing that he can kill them over and over again means he'd never have to find new prey.

The effects of their time on 'The Island' were small, but still present. Quite a few of the nations were gentler with England, Hungary and Belarus, until the three of them showed them exactly how recovered they were, and all of them looked out for each other a little more. Romano curbed his insults around his brother and Spain, America took every opportunity to make England blush and France had been spotted approaching Canada more than once. They talked about it sometimes, but none more often than Hungary and Austria.

"Do you think that maybe it was a good thing that we got captured on that island?" Hungary asked Austria as they sat down for their regular meet-up. It was a blunt question, but Austria had always liked how she felt that she could be forthright with him. Politics and common courtesy was always surrounded in mystery and not saying what was truly thought and it could drive him mad sometimes.

"I think that it was a terrible thing to happen to us but we made a good thing come out of it," Austria said carefully, not wanting to state that their ordeal was a good thing, since at the time, it had not felt like so. But now Austria had more visitors than he knew what to do with and although sometimes the visitors interrupted something important, it was nice to feel more like part of the world outside of his small circle of friends. Now at the world meetings, he was sometimes sought out by America and Belarus, two nations he would have thought he could never get on with.

"I like how everyone's just a little bit closer now than they were. Even outside of everyone who got captured, there's been an effect. Ukraine actually hugged Russia and Belarus in public and I heard that England's brothers even visited him in hospital. Of course this was right before he broke out."

"Much like you did." Austria raised one delicate eyebrow and Hungary smiled back, unrepentant. It had been expected but Austria had still been annoyed at the action. It would have reassured him as well, knowing that Hungary was being looked after by professionals instead of leaving her well-being in her (mostly capable) hands.

"I even heard that Scotland and Sweden even took care of the General personally." Hungary's eyes were alight with gossip, even if it was fairly well known gossip by now. Austria sipped his tea and stopped himself from leaning in slightly closer. He was not a gossiping schoolgirl and so was not going to act like such.

"So his story was that he was born in Scotland, before moving to England and then to Sweden?" Austria asked and Hungary nodded.

"I was not expecting that when I heard his accent but I suppose the General must have gotten good at hiding it. Well, we won't have to worry about him anymore."

"Good," Austria said savagely. He did not want the General free for a very long time. There was too much intelligence and knowledge in that mind of his. He had not seemed to grasp that sometimes things were better left alone and the fact that he even dared to think that he could control nations like he did would be laughable if it hadn't actually happened.

"You were very skilled on the island," Hungary said, leaning slightly closer and Austria was jolted out of his thoughts. He was clueless about why Hungary was bringing this up.

"Of course I was. You know how skilled I am Hungary, it shouldn't come a shock."

"I know how skilled you were but the others didn't. It was good to see that you could show other people that now and again."

"I only don't show other people because it would get me a reputation as an uncouth, aggressive person and I would prefer not to be known as that." Austria took a sip of his tea, ignoring how he felt slightly hot under the collar. Hungary leaning closer was not helping his situation.

"Or it showing other people how strong you are. Sometimes that isn't always a bad thing," Hungary said gently, taking hold of Austria's hand and squeezing it gently. Austria twisted his hand around so he could return the squeeze.

"It definitely isn't when you are captured by a delusional ex-military man." Austria agreed with part of Hungary's point, he still remembered how his heart had seemed to freeze in place when he heard that she had been captured. That was one part of the experience that he wished had not happened.

Hungary smiled at him, affection obvious in her eyes and Austria returned the smile. They went back to drinking, this time in a comfortable silence. Neither one of them let go of the other's hand.

As usual, my next couple of weeks is over a month and I still hate character limits. But it's all finished now even though it took a while! Thank you to everyone that has commented and anon that commented on the last part, I hope Austria's POV makes up for the lack of it last chapter. The nations didn't kill the General because they decided it was up to his nations (Scotland and Sweden) to deal with him. They didn't feel it was their place, which is a sort of headcanon for me.
