Punishment [18a/18] anonymous October 19 2011, 23:55:59 UTC

Tino stole Arthur away from Berwald, much to Alfred’s distress. He had Arthur sit with him in the kitchen while he examined his wings and bandages. He started cooking soup to help Arthur’s cough, and while he cooked, Arthur talked.

Tino had been surprised by the fact that Arthur was indeed an angel, and shocked when Arthur told him that Alfred was a demon.

Apparently, humans weren’t fully aware of the angel-demon situation. They weren’t aware that demons were everywhere and that angels hid in the clouds, waiting until a human was hurt or killed before they continued their war.

Tino had to sit down after Arthur told him about Alfred. He appeared better when he heard about Alfred’s fight with the other demons to protect Arthur, but he still looked scared.

As he should have been.

“If those demons are hunting you...” Tino took a breath and stared at the pot of soup that was still cooking. “What if they come here?”

Arthur looked out the window over the table, towards the forest. The sky shimmered slightly because of the barrier’s presence and he sipped the tea that Tino had made him earlier.

“There’s a barrier that repels them.” Arthur pointed outside and Tino followed with his eyes, but he couldn’t see the disturbance in the air. “It’s designed to keep demons from sensing us inside and entering. It’s been helping us here since we’re so close to the barrier.” He paused and thought for a moment. “I can expand it and cover this house.”

“I don’t want you to wear yourself out.” Tino stood and moved to the stove. He turned down the heat and pulled the pot from the stove to set on the stone countertop. “If they can’t sense us, we shouldn’t be worried.”

Arthur slumped in his chair and held back a sigh. Tino had his back to him, and he was glad that the human couldn’t see the disappointment in his face. While he was relieved that he didn’t have to strain himself to make the barrier larger, he was put-out by his own weakness an inability to do what needed to be done.

“I’m going to talk to Alfred,” Arthur decided, but Tino shook his head.

“I saw Berwald take him outside. He needs to walk around.” Tino hummed to himself. “I suppose being a demon would explain why he’s healing so well. I thought he was going to die when he came here, but...” Tino shrugged. “I’m glad.”

Arthur didn’t say anything. He stood and joined Tino at the stove when the other motioned to him.

“Try this,” Tino ordered, and Arthur sipped the broth in the spoon that Tino held out. When Arthur coughed, Tino frowned. “I knew there was too much pepper.”

“Only a little,” Arthur said when he managed to control himself and stop coughing. Tino nodded and added more onions and a powder to the mixture. “What is it?”

“Old family recipe.” Tino placed the pot back on the stove. “It’s from Berwald’s mother. She said it’s good for aches and pains. Berwald’s always made it before, but I thought I should do it while he’s busy with Alfred.”

“That’s a nice thought.”

“Of course it is.” Tino laughed. “I like doing stuff like this for him. He works hard; he needs a break once in a while.”

Arthur stared curiously at the pot. “Maybe I should make some for Alfred. I never made him anything good.”

“I’m sure he would like it.” Tino searched through the cupboards for more ingredients to add while Arthur watched. “I think it would make him very happy.”
