“We will be great”, Ivan mutters into Matthew’s hair. He hadn’t brought it up, he didn’t want to push Matthew when he already was on track, but Ivan was sure once the revolution was complete, Canada would surely become one with the Mother Land. They would be together then, and the rest of the world may join if they like. But Canada would always be known as the first.
Matthew wiggled around and looked curiously at him. No words were said, and interest returned to the union meeting. It was a baby step, but Canada was making enough baby steps to get real progress. Soon. It was the only word Ivan could muster at the time. Soon. His grip tightened on Canada’s side.
~
Ivan seemed to demand every curve of the body below him. Greedily, he claimed every hair, every toe, and every inch of flesh as his own. Matthew didn’t seem to fight it. He seemed perfectly happy to writhe under Ivan. Matthew gripped at his hips and gasped when Ivan positioned himself to enter him. The world outside the pair bundled in blankets was cold, but together they filled each other with heat.
Matthew didn’t fight or struggle as Ivan pushed in. He made soft, meek sounds of pain and pleasure that left no doubt. Ivan pressed their bodies together, feeling the combined warmth. Become one was on lips, but he knew it still wasn’t time. Instead, he showed Matthew that they were to become one when his rocking turned into hard thrusting.
Matthew was his. Canada and Russia would marry and become great. And his Matthew would be by his side. Always.
~
Ivan’s hand happily reached out to grab Matthew’s. His large form easily pulled the smaller boy up and onto the train. A glorious smile spread across Matthew’s lips. This was the beginning. The proletariats boarded the train en masse, the revolution reaching full strength. The general population provided support and the bourgeoisie will soon see their downfall.
Matthew smashed his lips into Ivan’s, taking him by surprise. Usually the boy was so much more reserved. But Ivan could feel that rapid heartbeat as their chests were pressed together. Sweat coated his skin despite the cold. Ivan knew it wasn’t from the sickness that still plagued Matthew. It was from the excitement at the looming cure.
Ivan wrapped his arms around Matthew. He pressed his body harder in Matthew. He wanted to show him that he was there for him, that Russia would aid Canada in any way needed. Their kiss became deeper and more passionate as the strikers climbed into the train with more and more passion of their own.
Once the train started to move, Matthew broke the kiss to look around and stare at his glorious proletariats in revolt. Ivan couldn’t take his eyes off the young nation though. He was beautiful in his youth and wisdom, a truly great nation.
Truly.
~
The cold air seemed to penetrate Ivan for the first time since he came to Canada. The shared warmth that seemed to filled the air since he and Canada first embraced was gone. The two nations, separate and completely independent from one another, stood around the radio. The voice sounded excited in the box. Matthew shifted awkwardly beside him. Ivan did nothing.
“With these new reforms and promises of many more, it appears that the revolt is over without any massive violence. Compromise between the strikers and the federal government has led to the preservation of Canada’s integrity.” The bourgeoisie had subdued the proletariats, putting them back into cages with just some petty bait. The revolution was dead.
“Sorry”, Matthew’s voice was soft and free of any actual guilt. Ivan turned sharply on his heels and left the room. He didn’t have anything to say. There was nothing to say. Matthew was not his.

OMGS YES BRILLIANT. Hooray for filling very old requests - this is one of the ones I was hoping would be filled when that list was put up!!
This is great, I loved it. Loved the politics, loved revolutionarily-inspiring!Ivan, and I thought your Canada was fantastic. ultimately I think you're right, Canada wouldn't become that left of centre til the Trudeau years, so it almost looks like he's leading Ivan on when it's probably more that he's horribly indecisive. It makes the bittersweet-ness of this all the more poignant. Fantastic job anon <333
