“Oh, good morning, Mr. Kirkland.” The young man at the counter, Toris, smiles and waves, “How are you?”

Arthur rather likes Toris. There is a very wide variety of doctors, nurses, the like, in the hospital and and he admits, there are some there he doesn’t not like too much. He despises that Bonnefoy-how that man became a physician is a question that remains unanswered. Arthur acknowledges his ability and skill are his profession, but he still hates him all the same. There are a few others that grate at his nerves too, like Ludwig’s obnoxious, albino brother, Gilbert, and that Spaniard-Antonio, that’s his name!

He always, always harasses Lovino, one of the interns. Arthur finds it a wonder that his eardrums haven’t blown off yet-either from Lovino’s excessive use of profanity (can’t he control himself!? Antonio works with kids and sometimes they’re around to hear the Italian!) or from the complaints of patients who are woken by Lovino. Either way, Arthur is dealing with the brunt of it, and he’s had too many times where throwing the cart became much more than a “temptation”.

However, Toris-Toris, even though his friend, Feliks, is a bit too much-he’s the secretary. He’s nice and polite and he has a calming aura around him. He’s a bit of a pushover, and he tends to get dragged away from his duties when the children in the hospital decide to victimize him for the day and force him to play games with them.

But, what can he say? Arthur loves kids, heck, has a kid of his own-they’re too cute, and when they stare at you with their big, sparkling eyes, how do you say no to that? Even Gilbert plays with the children sometimes, and he’s Gilbert-insensitive and obnoxious.

“Mm-good morning to you as well, Toris. I’m doing well, and yourself? Also, I’ve told you many times-you can call me Arthur.” Arthur says, and Toris laughs nervously. They chat for a bit, before the phone rings and Toris bids Arthur goodbye as the blond heads inside to begin working.

That being said, for now, all Arthur has on his hands is changing into his scrub, and waiting until he’s paged to wo-

“Mon ami, Arthur~”

Oh, yeah. That thing, too.

Sometimes, Arthur wishes the job description included a warning about idiots like Francis Bonnefoy.

Speaking of Francis, good timing. Arthur still needs to pay him back for feeding his son those calorie-inducing cakes-for Pete’s sake, the man was a doctor!

“Get off of me, you damn frog!” Arthur shouts, but Francis clings to him momentarily as Arthur presses his hand against forehead-why the hell did he have to be stuck like glue, go stick to someone else!

Francis releases his grip on Arthur eventually, waving his pathetic little rose around as he did. “Why are you so cold, Arthur? We’ve been working together for so long~.” Francis says, puckering his upper lip like a child, and Arthur has an adorable child and Francis’ pout is even more disturbing because of it.

“If you consider a bloody few months a long time, then you clearly make friends too easily.” Arthur says, crossing his arms. He had to change, but he wasn’t going to say it in front of Francis of all people-he didn’t need to make his problems worse.

“Oh, your words sting, Arthur,” Francis acts dramatic, but they both know he’s used to Arthur’s frequent verbal abuse, “But, non, I am not here for the sole purpose of harassing you-”

“You mean you can do something else besides harass someone? It is true, you do learn something new everyday.”

“It’s rude to interrupt people!” Francis’ glares a bit, but it has nothing against Arthur’s almost perpetual glare-the glare and scowl that some doctors have wondered if Arthur’s face is normally structured as.

“Right, now get on with it.” Arthur replies, tapping his foot impatiently. He crosses his arms, glaring at Francis, waiting.

“I came to tell you...” Francis says, and as he does, he moves his arms into the air and then down, like a ballerina-Arthur wants to gag-“That we’re getting a new boss!”

Arthur blinks. Ah, he’d completely forgot... Their old boss retired, and now a new one was coming in... Eh, piques his interest, just a bit, it is his new boss, after all-“Hm. You mean they’re coming in today?”

“Oui~!” Francis twirls, and Arthur wishes he would stop-“It’s a young man. Apparently, he hasn’t been in the field that long, either.~ Not as long as moi, anyway.” Arthur lifts an eyebrow-that was unusual. They’d usually have a skilled doctor take the place of boss.

“Is he some sort of prodigy?” Arthur asks, and Francis taps his chin-“Something like that. I don’t think prodigy is the exact word-overestimating, maybe-but I do know he’s very smart.~ Very skilled, receives a lot of praise from his peers. Besides, he’s not going to be our boss for long. They’ve put him down as ‘temporary boss’-maybe they’re testing him.”

Interesting-now Arthur wants to meet this guy. He’s a bit fresh on the street, but apparently, he’s good enough to be considered boss. Even if he wasn’t a real boss-just temporary-he is good at what he’s doing.

“When is he arriving?”

“Sometime today, I believe at noon, or the afternoon. I wonder what he’s like,” the pen from the clipboard taps against Francis’ chin, “Elizaveta tells me she heard he is from Amerique.”

Arthur cringes.

He wants to meet this guy a little less now.

“What was his name... Doctor... Doctor... Oh! Doctor Jones!”

There is a heavy silence, as if Arthur’s very presence alone created the tension of crime scene. Francis feels the color drain from his face, wondering if Arthur is going to take the crate of the nurse walking nearby and beat him with it.

Arthur, on the other hand, forgets how to use his limbs.

All the processing ability in his mind has gone to one thing-processing the fact that their new boss is a young American named “Doctor Jones”.

Arthur laughs.

Francis stares, unnerved for a moment.

“Coincidences! Yes, coincidences. Now if you’ll excuse me, Dr. Bonnefoy, I have to get dressed.”

Yes.

Coincidences.

It’s a coincidence.

I think you made a mistake in the first part:

He rarely fed Alfred cakes. If he ever did, they were bought from the store, not from Francis Bonnefoy.

Also, names that end with "s" have " 's " at the end, instead of just the apostrophe. Nouns with "s" only have the apostrophe (I always get that wrong :() Just a note in case you de-anon it later :DDDD

But I love how this is starting out! I'll be waiting eagerly for the continuation :D James is such a little cutie~ and he knows exactly what makes his mommy daddy tick (or explode. depends on the situation I imagine).

*waits for more*

OP/

Permit me a moment to ‘squee!’ rather loudly.

Ahem... SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

What you talking about? It’s good! The pacing is fine and I think Arthur’s reaction to Dr Jones is pretty spot on though it would have amused me senseless if Arthur did beat Francis unconscious with a cart XD

James is so cute! I understood everything he said. Mother Father!England is one of my one true loves, so I am so happy to see him so maternal with James. And Australia, thank you for adding Australia.

France as a ballerina...there’s an image that isn’t going to be leaving me anytime soon...o3o

I will now set up camp here and wait for more ♥♥♥♥
