US/UK teacher au Part 1.3 anonymous April 1 2011, 21:18:26 UTC

The two men kept walking down the hall, out of the building, and down the sidewalk until they entered the English building. They stopped outside of a classroom, which happened to be the only one in the hall that still had its door closed.

“Arthur's class is still inside?” Kiku asked.

Alfred peeked through the window of the door into the classroom, and grinned at what he saw. Arthur was standing in the front of his classroom, a book in his hands, and he was reading aloud. "That dork is still reading. I bet he doesn't even know the bell rang, and his students are too scared to say anything. Those lucky kids, though,” he said dreamily, “getting to listen to him read in that adorable accent of his.”

“Should we inform him?” Kiku asked, knocking Alfred out of his daze.

“Y-yeah! Of course!” The American stretched his arms out in front of his body, then cracked his knuckles. “Time for the hero to come to the rescue!” Alfred quickly threw the door open, and stepped inside, calling out, “Arthur!”

Arthur jumped, turned his head, and scowled at the intruder. “Alfred?! What are you doing in here? Can't you see I'm in class?” Alfred simply pointed to the clock, and Arthur’s eyes widened slightly. “Is it truly that late already? I never heard the bell ring.” He turned towards his class as he closed and lowered his book. “You really ought to tell me if the bell rings and I fail to hear it.” His class just stared back, and he sighed, waving his hand towards the door. “Off with you, then.”

As the students hurried out of the classroom, several of them went out of the way to walk past Alfred, whispering things like "Thanks, Mr. Jones," and "We owe you one, Mr. Jones." Alfred grinned in return and gave a few passing boys high fives.

"I 'm not sure why they never inform me when class goes over time," Arthur said with a sigh once all the students had exited the room. "It's as if they fear me or something..."

"They probably do." Alfred nodded, and Arthur scowled in return. "Don't give me that look! You gotta admit, you can be pretty intimidating sometimes." Alfred's heart ached when he saw a flash of hurt in Arthur's eyes. He put his hand on the older man's arm, and said, "It's no big deal, Arthur. You're still a great teacher, and the kids really learn a lot from you."

Arthur looked up at Alfred, blushing. "Do you really think so?"

"I know so!" The science teacher tugged on Arthur's arm, and began to drag him towards the door, "Now, come on! It's time for lunch! They're serving hamburgers today!"

Arthur grumbled, but allowed himself to be led into the hallway. He smiled when he spotted Kiku, and gave him a small bow. "Hello, Kiku."

"Good afternoon, Arthur," Kiku replied, smiling in return. "How was your class?"

"It was lovely, but I seem to have lost track of the time." He laughed softly before continuing. "Will you be joining us for lunch today?"

Kiku glanced at Alfred before he shook his head. "I'm afraid not. I have some things to prepare for my afternoon classes. I was just accompanying Alfred." He bowed, and said, "It was good to see you, Arthur." He looked at Alfred, who gave him a small wave. "I'll see you this afternoon, Alfred?"

"Yeah, Of course!" The American looked down at Arthur. "We should be going, too. Lunch doesn't last forever, after all!"

~

As much as Alfred loved his classes, lunch was still one of his favorite parts of the school day. He would always meet with Arthur (sometimes Kiku would join them), and they would have lunch together. They would talk, laugh, bicker- just have a good time, and Alfred really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, lunch was also the shortest time of the school day.

The two teachers had been having a particularly lovely conversation over lunch about their own days in grade school, when Arthur glanced at his watch and noticed the time. "The bell will ring soon. We ought to return to our classrooms and prepare for our afternoon classes."

"What? Already?!" Alfred threw his arms into the air, and groaned loudly. "They need to make lunch like, twice as long. I should tell Principal Liz..."

Arthur began gathering his trash up. "You ask Principal Héderváry every month, and she always tells you the same thing."

"'I'll think about it' is better than no!"

Thank you very much! I would love to attend this school as well. I've always been a more hands on learner. I would have loved something like that! I will most certainly continue! Hopefully I can update soon.

OP here!!

I'm loving this so far. It has the exact amount of humor and lightness that I love, and I want America as a teacher so badly omg. America's crush on England is completely precious, and I love the way you have written their friendship (as well as America and Japan's!). I seriously hope you can update this soon. :D :D

"It's been three years, Alfred," Arthur said as he stood up. "I don't believe it is going to happen."

"Yeah, I guess," Alfred replied, dejected.

"Stop that." Arthur rolled his eyes. "I swear, sometimes I think you're still a student here. No need to be down. You have your advanced chemistry class this afternoon, don't you? I know how much you enjoy that class."

Alfred perked up instantly. "Yeah! I'm really looking forward to today! We're going to be going over chirality centers and optically active compounds!"

Arthur blinked, then shrugged. "I'm afraid that's way over my head. It sounds as if it will be an interesting lesson, though." He stared at Alfred a few more moments before saying, "I should be off. Perhaps I will see you later."

"W-wait!" Alfred jumped out of his seat to stand beside Arthur. "Um, hey before you go, um..."

"What is it, Alfred?"

Alfred started to fidget nervously. "Well, uh, you know... it's been like... what? Three years since we started working here?"

"That would be correct," Arthur stated, nodding.

"So, three years since we met, right?" Arthur nodded again. "And we've gotten to be pretty good friends in that time, right?" Arthur nodded once again. "Okay, yeah, so I was kind of wondering- well, I've been wondering for awhile, actually, but, you know, I just haven't been able to say anything cause it's kind of embarrassing, and-"

"Alfred," Arthur interrupted, "you're doing that babbling thing again."

"Oh, right." Alfred laughed nervously. "Well, um, I was wondering if you... wanted to come to my apartment this weekend and work on lesson plans together."

"Lesson plans?" Arthur asked, confused. "We teach two completely different subjects."

"Yeah, but wouldn't it be fun to do it together?" Alfred paused and took a deep breath. "A-and maybe we could have dinner, too."

Arthur's face turned bright pink. "Dinner? You mean... like a date?"

"Exactly like a date."

Arthur hesitated, then said, "A lesson planning... date?"

"Yeah. A lesson planning date," Alfred said shyly. It felt like an eternity to Alfred before Arthur answer.

"That sounds lovely." Arthur smiled, his face turning more red. "Brilliant, actually. I'd like that very much."

"O-okay then!" Arthur yelled a little too loudly. He shut his mouth quickly, smiling sheepishly. "I mean, that sounds great."

"Right." Arthur looked down at the trash in his hands. "I should... throw this away and return to my classroom."

"Y-yeah. I'll see you this afternoon, then?"

"Of course."

As Alfred watched Arthur walk away, a huge smile formed on his face. He had a date with Arthur. An actual, real, mutually agreed upon date.

... There was no way that this wouldn't be the best year ever.

A/N: I'm sorry. Something had come up that prevented me from posting it all at once. I need to decide on some teaching positions for some of the other characters. France and Spain will most likely teach their own languages. Hopefully I can update again soon, and hopefully I will have a title.

This is so adorable. I think one of the best things about this ship is how socially awkward they are and how they dance around each other.

And boy, I'd kill my granny to have Arthur as my Lit teacher <3
