Everything the Light Touches - Piece 1 - [24/34?] anonymous March 25 2011, 04:57:06 UTC
They didn’t remain in the main chamber for long. They hurried back through the temple, silently and carefully as they kept a look out for more mercenaries. Arthur knew his assumption had been correct; the smartest thing for the mercenaries to do would have to have radios to contact each other, that way the different teams would know if another met any kind of trouble. Well, the mercenaries being disorganized was better for Arthur and Alfred, so Arthur wouldn’t complain, even though he thought it was rather stupid.

They reached the large stone tablet without any problems and without coming in contact with any mercenaries, something Arthur was very grateful for. His entire body was tense and he kept vigilant watch as they rounded the large tablet towards the broken stone door one had to pass through to get to the large chamber with the glowing stones.

They crept up towards the hole in the door slowly, Arthur on the right side, Alfred on the left. In the large chamber on the other side of the opening they could see several armed men. Arthur mentally cursed this entire situation. Who knew that he (and Alfred) was down here, and how had they found out?

He glanced to the side and watched as Alfred cocked his gun and their eyes met briefly. Alfred gave a short nod and then both of them got in front of the hole and began to shoot.

The mercenaries cried out in shock and rage as Arthur noted with grim satisfaction that Alfred was a really good shot. They ducked for cover as the uninjured mercenaries started to return fire. Dust rained down over the two adventurers as they crouched beneath the hole.

“We’ve got some very bad odds!” Alfred shouted with a grin over the sound of gunshots. How he could be grinning at a time like this was beyond Arthur, but he supposed that was part of Alfred’s ‘hero persona’; never show fear.

“Tell me something I don’t know!” Arthur snarled back at Alfred. They were outnumbered by opponents who had better weapons. Of course the odds were bad.

“I wear glasses because it makes me look older and smarter,” Alfred shouted back, grin till firmly in place. Arthur felt his frown deepen as he quickly stood up and fired some shots before ducking down again.

“What?!” Where the hell had that come from, exactly?

“That’s something you don’t know!” The stupid grin still hadn’t left Alfred’s face. “Besides, I don’t get much respect from the archaeology community without them since I’m so young,” he continued before standing up and firing a few shots towards the mercenaries. He quickly ducked down again, just like Arthur had done earlier.

“I know what that’s like,” Arthur said darkly. He remembered the days before he received recognition very well. He had been laughed at several times until he had proven himself by bringing back the fabled golden bracelet of Inti, the sun god of the Incas.

“You’ve been discriminated against by those snobs?”Alfred said incredulously. Arthur rolled his eyes; this was not the time to be discussing this, not at all.

“Yes,” he hissed and blinked. Why was it so silent all of a sudden? “They saw me as a spoiled rich kid who wanted to play archaeologist while using my money; but this is not the time for this,” he continued in a quiet voice.

That's all for now! Thank you all for your kind comments, they mean so much to me. Knowing that there are people who read and enjoy my work... ;w;

Thank you.

(your stalking UN!OP here, sorry I missed commenting last update!)

Er, guys, now's really not the time to be discussing that ò.ó As hilarious as Alfred can be.

Who sicked those mercs at 'em?! They'd practically have to be spying 24/7 to know Arthur and Alfred both independently came there... *looks at Ivan* You wouldn't have anything to do with this, would you dear?

Argh, why is it so quiet suddenly? You cliffhanger you!
