~watching as he walks away, leaving you behind without a word~
The thought vanishes as quickly as it came, but when America's hand touches his arm, Canada pulls away and the look on America's face is so pained that it tears at his heart.
“I'm not going to hurt you, Mattie. Please, just tell me what's wrong.”
Canada barks twice, suddenly wondering if this is some sort of test; perhaps a way for Russia to know if he's capable of being good when Russia is not around. Maybe he is not being punished.
With that thought, Canada begins to wriggle out of his shirt - dogs do not wear clothes. He would not fail. He would never give Russia a reason to leave him.
“Matt,” two strong hands grab his shoulders, holding the shirt in place. “You're safe. Russia is gone. He'll never touch you again. It'll be okay.”
Russia is. . . gone? He looks for some sign of falsehood, but here is nothing but sadness and sincerity in America's eyes.
Confused and frightened, Canada whines, long and shrill. It is a plea, a call for his Master to come and help him make sense of all of this. For Russia to be there, to comfort him, to tell him what he needs to do.
There is no answer. Only a gentle hug, arms pulling him in and holding him so close. It is different than Russia's embraces, in ways Canada can't quite make out. Perhaps it is the way America holds him, as if he might break at any moment, or in the way that he isn't simply offering comfort but taking comfort as well. Whatever the difference, Canada can't help but lean into the familiar warmth of this not-stranger's arms, still whimpering under his breath.
“It'll be alright. I won't leave you. I won't let you down again.”
Though Canada doesn't quite believe the second - hadn't Russia said the same thing at one point, only to give him away without even a goodbye - and doesn't really understand the third, he smiles a little and licks America's cheek in an effort to cheer him up.
Please don't be sad, he whines softly.
The arms around him tighten, and Canada can feel America shudder and begin to shake with silent sobs, even as he wonders what he had done wrong.

Accidentally posted the wrong version of 7b. It's just the last bit that got changed, so please disregard everything after "there is no answer" and insert this. Thanks.

“It'll be alright," America chokes, his voice rough with emotion. "I won't leave you. I won't let you down again.”
Though Canada doesn't quite believe the second - hadn't Russia said the same thing at one point, only to give him away without even a goodbye - and doesn't really understand the third, he smiles a little and licks America's cheek in an effort to reassure him that, yes, it would be alright.

OMG YES! HE CAN'T TALK! A!A you have no idea how happy you've made me. I was becoming teary-eyed as I was reading, but the fact that he can't talk didn't let me she a single tear. I've become such a horrible person to take delight on something like this D:
But yes, Canada woke up and he is still in Dog!Mode it's kinda nice to see America so vunerable and dog!Canada who doesn't understand much. I wonder how the healing will go, and the reaction of the rest of the FACE family. It'll be good. will there be any sanctions to Russia?
