Something US/UK during the war of independence.

England

The blood pounded in England's ears, drowning out everything else. Reason, logical thought, duty, all that went out of his head the moment he had received word about America's plan to gain independence. Independence. From England. The same person who had cared for him for so many years, who had shared nearly all of his culture? England had tried to teach America everything about being a colony but obviously he must have failed somewhere because what colony aspired to be their own country?

America apparently. When England had first got an inkling about how special America was, right when he had swung that buffalo around, he had never thought that it would be in this way. America was meant to serve the Empire, as England himself did, and prosper in a way that was beneficial to everyone. But now he was declaring his split from England and enlisting other countries to help him, ones that England had always preached caution of. They only had their own interests at heart, America just did not understand that and that was why England was sure America was not ready to be his own country.

England had to save America from himself. The young colony might think that under two hundred years with England was enough experience for him to strike out on his own. There were so many other, more powerful nations out there that would take advantage of new, inexperienced America.

Another thought crept into England's mind about how his life would be without America. Even over the past few years when their relationship was strained, England could coax a smile out of America.

But if America won this war, then all that would be gone from England's life. No more smiles, no more sincere joy because no one else would be that stupidly unguarded, especially around the British Empire.

No. There would be no if. England would win the war, he would have America back. Even if America hated him for it, England would fight and he would win. Not just for America's sake but his own as well.

America

America left France in the tent, brushing off his uniform as he did so. The Treaty of Alliance had been signed and now France formally recognised America as independent. America wished that England would do that same but he told himself that this England, the England who had kept taxing his people without even listening to what they had to say, would never recognise his independence. And he would not recognise that America was prepared to fight for it until the very end.

England had changed over the years. After America had started getting older, England had demanded more and more from him without giving anything in return. It had become more and more obvious, even to America who had deliberately blinded himself at times, that becoming an independent country was the only way that America was going to be able to have control of his laws and his government.

America grinned. He had never had a government before. He would make sure that this was the best one that had ever been; it would take into account what the people wanted and allow them to pass their own laws. It was called democracy and America was going to show England how good it was. He didn't need any kings telling him what to do. It had never worked for England and it never would anymore.

Sometimes America wanted to go back to when he was small enough for England to lift him up into his arms, to when everything seemed so simple. Listen to England and he'll protect you. But then America would look at his people and be amazed at how much they had achieved. He could never regret this, he wanted independence and he wanted to keep growing and improving until America the country became one of the most powerful countries in the world.

He just wished England wanted the same thing for him.

Stupid character limits.

France

Sometimes he pitied England. Only sometimes, very rarely, and only in the darkest corners when he had a little too much to drink and feeling maudlin. England had poured so much of himself into America only for the boy to break away from him. The fact that England cared so much for America made taking him from England so much sweeter.

The boy did not understand why England kept on holding onto him, he did not see how England would not waste his soldiers on a colony that was of no matter to him. America had valuable resources but there were other colonies as well which would be easier for the British Empire to take. No, England wanted America. And France was determined not to let that happen.

Nothing to do with America, it was a matter between France and England. England humiliated him in the Treaty of Paris and he should have expected revenge because of that. He had forced France to give up his colony on this Continent which is something that the boy still hated him for. The fact that France was squashing English tyranny here was only a bonus.

It was still a shame that America would remain blind to how much England cared for him and that America was unaware of his own feelings. But now France had something new to taunt England over; the loss of his beloved colony. He would make sure that England never forgot it.

Treaty of Alliance was between France and America where France formally recognised America as independent. Treaty of Paris in 1763 was after France lost the Seven Years War and he had to give up some of his colonies, including Canada.
