“What? No.” Alfred looked up, face scrunched in disgust. “That’s just wrong”

Ivan shrugged, coming into the small living room area. Alfred’s eyes followed him, surprised when the other simply sat on the floor and rested against the cold hearth. He drew up his knees and looked more like a young man about to read a book or smoke than a once formidable and deadly foe. But Alfred suspected that was due to him being within his own home and was therefore comfortable. America probably should have been more uncomfortable, but after being trapped in the hospital and the flimsy gowns, anything was heaven. “Would it not make sense that if meat is love, the cannibalism follows?”

“Would you eat the person you love? Totally not going out with you if that’s the case.” America looked around the room, eyes caught by small glass bowl. “You have pet fish?”

“Nyet.” Russia looked confused and followed America’s gaze, craning his neck up. Finally his bright gaze fell on the object the younger nation had been asking about and cleared his throat. “I had fishes. About five years ago”

“Five years ago?”

“Da.”

“And you never thought about getting rid of the tank?”

“Nyet.”

“Why?”

“I had planned on getting more fish.” Ivan was looking back at the couch and for some reason the word pet and Russia were not cohesive to Alfred’s brain,
which was already muddled up from the cocktail of medicines he had.

“Wait,” Alfred said, holding up a hand. “You had fish, but they died and you want to get more? Never mind…what kind of fish was it?” He began to braid the tassels of the old blanket covering his lap, blue eyes looking over the rim of his glasses.

“It was an orange beta fish. I named him Sputnik and had him for a few years.” Ivan was getting back up, the scent of heating food filling the room.

“So what happened to it? Just got old?”

“It turns out fish do not like vodka.”

Ivan walked into the kitchen and Alfred looked back to empty fish tank. “Alcohol poisoning.” Alfred chuckled and folded his hands. “I guess there’re worse ways to die as a fish.” He just hoped he ended up better than the fish.

Sorry for the delayed update, New England is getting dumped with snow and college is in full swing again. Fun times. Also not fun is almost recreating this story...I hate New England roads.

“It turns out fish do not like vodka.”

No, Ivan. No, they don't. Poor fish. Poor Ivan when he realized he drunkenly killed his pet fish! I bet he was devastated.

I've had pet bettas for about ten years now. It makes me smile to think of Russia with one. If I ever get an orange one I will name him Sputnik :)!

still loving this fill A!anon, can't wait for more.

Fish die really easy, even if you don't give them vodka. At least in my experience, I've never had a fish last more than a week lol. But aw, he never got a new one, and every time he looks at the bowl he probably thinks about it :( Maybe America can get him to get a new one :D
And cute little old lady neighbor? I am totally working forward to more of her! I'm glad someone's around to try and take care of Ivan.
I love this story! I can't wait for the next part!

UPDAAAAAAAAAAATE :DDDDDDD

-calms down-

Russia having a pet fish sounds so adorable! And the name "sputnik" is awesome x'D The old lady living next door sounds like she'll be an interesting secondary character! I hope we will get to see more of her? maybe she'll tell alfred embarrassing stories about Ivan??

Definitely looking forward to the next chapter, author-anon!!!

Oh you are back! *sends you kisses and hugs through the internet*

Ivan killed his pet fish accidentally :( But I have to admit I lol at Alfred hoping his caregiver won't be so careless with him XD
Alfred and his association with rabbit!!! Alfred having no problem eating rabbit meat makes sense to me, since he was a practical farming/hunting society in the beginning.

Pffft, Ivan killing his fish with vodka just about had me rolling with laughter. Poor fishy.

But anyway, I'm so glad to see this updated! I'm really looking forward to the story progression, and more of these guys' antics as America heals up. X3

reCaptcha: nudist leidner- Well, I could deal with Ivan being a nudist later on... lol
