writernon thinks more thoughts -- this is still not fic! anonymous January 6 2011, 18:06:24 UTC
So yes, Mr. Obama is the first to figure out that Alfred doesn't know what's going, although he doesn't know exactly what's happened. So other-world Alfred gets debriefed, and they find out he believes he lost the Revolutionary War and has continued to serve Great Britain. I don't know how they figure out he's from a parallel universe and hasn't had a psychotic break (which is why this is just me talking and not really fic!), but I guess somehow they figure it out?

Anyhow, other-world Alfred gets briefed on our world. As soon as Alfred understands that he's really not under Arthur's control anymore, all these old feelings come welling up and he has an overwhelming desire to declare, or at least to restate, his independence. He does the closest thing he can think of: he declares an end to the special relationship between the U.S. and Great Britain.

Cue a crushed Arthur. Not for political reasons as much as personal ones. He wanted to be there for other-world Alfred, who has a certain something, not exactly innocence but something that makes him nostalgic for pre-Superpower Alfred.

Someone, maybe Francis, points out to Alfred in private that Arthur has given him great support over the years. Probably his own advisors as well ask him to reconsider cutting off ties completely, which is something Alfred had indicated wanting to do.

Once the adrenaline wears off, of course Alfred realizes everyone is right. More than that...he misses Arthur.

So our-world Alfred and other-world Arthur start spending time together, which brings up all sorts of repressed and complicated feelings on both sides, feelings they have for the counterparts from their respective worlds as well as for each other in the here and now. One of the complications, which you may have already guessed, is that our-world Alfred likes things a bit rougher than our-world Arthur was willing or able to give him. Not because our-world Arthur doesn't have the capacity for that kind of treatment, but because he's afraid he wouldn't be able to control himself, he'd wind up going too far. So it kind of messes him up to hear how far other-world Arthur went with other-world Alfred, which is like a confirmation of his worst fears. And from other-world Alfred's side, he actually does enjoy some of the relationship he has with other-world Arthur--but the lack of choice killed a lot of his pleasure and made him feeling guilty when he did like it.

They start slowly together. And of course there are more complications because when they're together, they can't be sure which version of them the other one is thinking of; and sometimes they can't be sure which version of the other one they themselves are thinking of. There's a fumbling towards self-acceptance and letting someone else in--which is a roundabout way of saying they fall in love.

And then someone figures out a way to switch the Alfreds back.

And that's all I have, really.

Thank you for letting me go on about this!

(Also, I would be very happy to link you to other stuff I've written; I don't have any of my kink meme fills bookmarked on this computer, but if you want I could post some links here when I get home this evening?)

I just have to say that I love this. The tone was great and my I make an idea? Perhaps its the people (America's) that figure it out first? The nations have a connection that lets them realize when their near other nations so I'm sure their own people must have one with their own nation too. So, as the president, his boss, and presumable his friend perhaps Obama has the strongest connection or one of the strongest which makes him able to tell somethings wrong instantly? Then the rest think he has amnesia and after some questioning/medical service the truth comes to light?

He seems to be able to control himself well ("as much as he lets himself get") and that he is finding pleasure but sets a mark at /how much/ pleasure he has (in order to not fully satisfy Arthur, and that he is intelligent enough to figure it out (and no one else does...which is the opposite of what happens in the other world...awesome).
Then you'd have a few options...its either magic or science or alien technology (because all of those things can do the impossible if used right!) or it 'just happened' due to something getting screwy in the other world's time system since that is what happened in /canon/ in the Christmas strips.

:)
Yep, your America is awesome...so he isn't allow himself to cum and stops just short of it every time? I wonder how long he can keep that up ...pun not intended sorry XD

Ah, thank you, you have reminded me of something I'd come up with and then forgot again in the haste to type up my ideas. What I wanted was for Obama not only to realize something was wrong, but to somehow know, from looking into Alfred's eyes, that this is not the same Alfred F. Jones he's known for the past two years. So even when they're doing a battery of tests on Alfred, Obama is standing by him saying, "I believe you." Does that sound too corny?

so he isn't allow himself to cum and stops just short of it every time? I wonder how long he can keep that up ...pun not intended sorry XD

Ha! Well, I would guess that if Arthur wants Alfred to come, he'll be able to make that happen sooner or later; Alfred probably counts it as a victory if it's later rather than sooner, because he's making Arthur work for it...

(this is first anon who asked this morning... it's a bit tricky to differentiate yourself on an anonymous meme, haha)

Man, now I really hope you write that sequel, though it sounds like quite an undertaking! I particularly like that bittersweet twist: that other-world Alfred and our-world Arthur may never know to what extent they have feelings for each other - or for the other each other. And if/when after the switch they return to their normal partner, still they'll always carry that glimpse of what/who could've been.

Also, what anon above brought up about the connection between a nation and its people is very interesting too. Does our-world Alfred have a connection to the people of the other-world America? Do they become more rebellious suddenly because of his appearance? Or, is he still connected to the people of our-world America (his memories of his history and his culture for example) and is it that connection which gives him the ability to maintain his belief in his identity despite other-world England's efforts. Does other-world Alfred have any difficulty accepting all the territories and citizens that part of America in our world, but presumably not American in the other world? Or going into even weirder territory, is the reason that the Alfreds ultimately return to their native worlds because of their bond with their respective people?

/end long-ass ramble, don't mind me... this is not intended as plot advice or anything, please don't feel obliged to answer to it or take it on; it's just me musing aloud in response to the ideas you've put out there. Author!anon, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts! It was very interesting to read. And of course I'd love it if you'd post some links! :D

And if/when after the switch they return to their normal partner, still they'll always carry that glimpse of what/who could've been.

I do think that in some ways, the switched-world versions are better suited to each other that the same-world pairings--but maybe only because they have experience with the same-world counterparts before meeting the other-world ones. Does that even make sense? I'm trying to say that, for example, other-world Alfred can give our-world Arthur something that maybe our-world Alfred can't--license to do whatever he wants in bed, to allow some of his darker desires to surface--because other-world Alfred has experience with other-world Arthur, and can guide our-world Arthur in a way he needs.

Of course, that should mean that having experience with the switched-world counterparts should make it possible for the same-world nation-tans to be with each other in new ways when they switch back. I hadn't thought of it like that.

(I'm sorry if this is getting confusing. This is me thinking things through aloud, in a way, so there are probably lots of contradicts and loose ends, etc. Also, I know it's really confusing calling them "our-world" and "other-world." Sorry about that.)

I love, love, love the connections between nations and their people. So I really like the idea of the bond with the people somehow being the catalyst for the switch back. I don't know if I'll ever write the full thing as an epic narrative, but I might post some scenes here and there. Thanks so much for giving me things to think about, and I hope you don't mind if I wind up stealing your ideas.

*__* Thanks for the long link list~! And it has been a pleasure to read your thoughts and ideas. I wish you the best of luck with this, and do hope to see some more writing from this world (er... these two worlds, I should say) in whatever form!

Thank you for encouraging me to think about it more. ♥ And I hope you find something to enjoy from that list, if that's all right to say.
