Coca-Cola Nights (4/?) anonymous January 16 2011, 22:17:39 UTC
It was a brisk autumn day, and the winds had picked up while the two had been in the restaurant. Alfred pulled his windbreaker over his shoulders with a barely suppressed shudder. The chill had nipped his cheeks and nose an adorable shade of pink.

"Golly gee, it's chilly," he said cheerfully. "Not as cold as the one Hallowe'en in '92 where I was Freddy Krueger, though."

"You went trick-or-treating in the 90's?" Arthur said incredulously. "Aren't you a little old for that?"

Alfred gave him another one of those completely oblivious expressions, and Arthur let the subject go.

"Oh, no swings. And I thought this park had one," Alfred muttered with a downtrodden look.

"We're going to be late if we don't turn back now, anyhow," Arthur said, looking at his watch with a frown. "Do you want to walk? Or should we hail a taxi to get back early?"

"Let's just walk," Alfred said, stuffing his hands in his pockets and kicking at a pebble.

"So, how long have you and Toris known each other?" Arthur asked as they walked. He had pulled the collar of his coat over his ears to protect against the cold.

"Since 1921, I think," Alfred said with a grin. "We were friends for the longest time. But then he went back to stay with Ivan..."

"Is that why you won't talk to him anymore?" Arthur said with a smile. Alfred nodded. "You must be very lonely."

"I got Mattie," Alfred said with a shrug.

His blue eyes were hooded slightly from memory of something, and his lips turned down, almost forming a pout. Arthur placed a hand against the boy's cheek, and placed his mouth against Alfred's. Slightly chapped lips tasted of root beer and autumn, if that were even possible, though before Arthur could even contemplate the oddity of this, Alfred pulled away.

"What are you doing?" he asked, confusion darkening his eyes.

"It's called a kiss, love," Arthur said, one of his hands slipping down from Alfred's shoulder to rest at his hip. "You needn't play dumb with me. It might work with others, but..."

Seeing stars, he found himself sprawled against the pavement. After a few moments, Arthur sat up, wiped blood away from his nose, and tried not to think about the bump that was probably forming on the back of his head.

Alfred was nowhere to be seen. Arthur blinked hard and stood up, confused as to what had just happened.

OMG poor Arthur, lol. The thing is, he's not feeling half as bad as he will when he realises what's up.

In the meantime, I felt bad for him during the lunch, but also amused because he was the only one sitting at the table that didn't know what was going on xD
Liet is so sweet. So he was Al's caretaker in the past, right? But the Russian government hired him back. Ivan was so adorably childish too, trying to get a rise out of his ex-friend...I hope we get to see them getting along better, because they're simply adorable here. And Ivan is a genius child, solving Rubikcubes; the way he was so engrossed in it when Al was saying goodbye to Toris made me think of my autistic cousin, curiously enough. I loved when he apologised so quickly after being chastised by the Lithuanian!

I also loved the misunderstanding between Arthur and Toris, regarding the nature of his relationship with Al. It seemed...understandable, but also the cause of much future facepalming that I can't wait to see xD

freddy!Al in Halloween, dawwwwwwwww ~~

I love Matt's advice. It reminds me of the advice my dad gave me all the time when I was little (except he told me to just scream really loudly and he'd come running). And I just really love Alfred's childishness. And, Ivan + Rubik's cube = <3

Recaptcha: "giving afaxed". So kind, afaxed!

Oh god, this is brilliant! XD I lol'd at Russia's Rubix Cube and Lithuania's caretaker instincts and England's jealousy and Canada's protectiveness and just... EVERYTHING.

Yay! Alfred remembered what Mattie told him to do!
Aw, Ivan. You and Alfred definetly need to have a playdate.
Toris must really like mothering people, since he seems to be somewhat looking after Ivan now and was in charge of Alfred. I wonder what he thinks about it.
Now I'm kind of wondering what kinds of "thinly veiled threats" Alfred made during the Cold War and whether they were actually supposed to be threats...

I LOVE Ivan being like a genius child... in fact I kinda always saw both Ivan and Alfred as kinda like savant kids. Alfred IS really smart in terms of technical thinking, after all.

"Agent 34 reporting Agent 25. Over."

"Loud and clear, Agent 34. Have you retrieved Stars And Stripes? Over."

"Stars And Stripes is secure. But Iggy Stardust has a broken nose. Over."

"Why do we even call him that?... Oh sorry. Over."

"I don't know. David Bowie was a bit before my time, 25. Mother Bear is furious though. I think we may need a security detail for Iggy Stardust until Mother Bear's stopped raging. Over."

"I can't pull security details out of my ass, 34. Over."

"There is a reason we gave him the codename Mother Bear, 25. Over."

"... I'll see what I can do. End transmission."

By the time they had found a security detail for Arthur and sent it on its way, Matthew had found his hockey stick in his luggage. The meeting had been cancelled since Alfred had returned with blood on his shirt and a couple of nice men in black suggesting he get into the car right this moment please, yes Mr. Jones, thank you, and so they were alone.

Arthur looked at the Canadian, sighed, and stuffed a tampon up one of his nostrils.

"I would really like to know what I did wrong before you maul me with that piece of hockey equipment, Matthew," he said in a withering tone somewhat hampered by the nasal cadence of his voice.

"You molested Alfred, you goddamn imperial perv," Matthew said in a low tone that only signified him getting angrier. "Why can't you leave the Americas alone, for once?"

"Alfred's a consenting adult," Arthur snapped. "And he doesn't need you protecting his virtue. I think our altercation proves that. So your assault is unnecessary."

"Actually, he's not," Matthew said, lowering his stick slightly while his dark eyes attempted to read Arthur. Arthur averted that unnatural, x-ray-like gaze.

"What are you talking about?"

"Legally he's not a consenting adult."

"Maybe his physical form is not considered such in the state of Philadelphia, but we're hardly getting into semantics here..."

"He's not a consenting adult. He's unable to give informed consent," Matthew muttered.

"What are you talking about?"

"... Arthur, I do believe I might have threatened your life with undue zeal," Matthew said apologetically. "Would you like ice cream for your face?"

Matthew explained the whole situation to Arthur over a cone of ice cream, and suddenly everything made clear, horrifying sense to the Brit. The intimacy Alfred had with Toris, Matthew's over-protectiveness, and those euphemisms Alfred used all the time all took on new and strangely innocent meaning.

"How old do you think he is? I mean..." Arthur trailed off.

"The specialists said he's got the development around that of a nine-year-old so far," Matthew said. "Though after a few hundred years, he's got skills that exceed that, obviously. He's really good with his hands. They gave him a garage so he can fix cars. He's obsessed with them. He can name off models and makes as they go down the roads."

A slight smile had worked its way up to Matthew's tired face while he talked about his brother. Arthur hadn't seen Matthew this relaxed for a while.

"Can I see him again? I want to apologize," Arthur said quietly. Matthew stared at him as though shaken out of a reverie, and took a bite out of his sundae.

"You'll have to talk to his Boss and explain that there was a misunderstanding. It's really not my call. And of course, Alfred might try to hit you again," Matthew said, and smiled to himself. "But I'm sure I can help arrange something."

I just discovered this little gem, and I'm loving it. Not a McDonald's reference, I swear! Although it gives an ENTIRELY new perspective on my Cold War studies, I have to admit ...

I just have to say that I really love this fic. it's absolutely fascinating.

And I'm also glad that Arthur coming onto him was a misunderstanding rather than him really trying to take advantage of Alfred.

Can't wait to see more!

Is it bad that that walkie talkie convo is my favorite part of the fill so far? Probably. But the Iggy Stardust codename seriously made me bust up laughing. I thought Canada might have forgiven England just a bit too quickly, but I am glad that he explained everything.

This... is.... so... CUTE!!! <333 They're so believably childish, with the "I'm not talking to you," and "I was just trying to trick you." Ivan is actually an adorable little boy, he seems like he'd be so nice if he wasn't so dangerous. Hearts for Mommy!Toris and SUPER HEARTS for MAMA BEAR!MATT! I'd be overtired looking after an overgrown man-child like Alfred too, but at least he has Arthur to help now. I love Alfred's interactions with his citizens, and how they all treat him like the favorite neighborhood kid. (And how they warn their daughters off him. Reminds me a bit of Mice and Men.) I just can't wait for more little boy Alfred stories! <3

...I haven't used that many exclaimation points in quite a while. XD
