Coca-Cola Nights (3/?) anonymous January 15 2011, 03:33:52 UTC

The nations dissolved the meeting because it was mutually agreed that nothing would get accomplished with Feliciano mewling for pasta. Alfred leapt from his seat, and barrelled into Arthur with something akin to excitement.

"Where do you want to go? I know this place that has great burgers down the road, and salads too..."

"Al, can I talk to you?" Matthew said, smoothly cutting in with another pointed glare at Arthur.

"Oh sure, what is it?"

"Excuse us, Arthur," Matthew muttered, and pulled Alfred away briefly. When he was sure they were out of earshot, he turned to Alfred with a very serious look.

"He only wants lunch, right?"

"Yeah."

"And what do you do if he...?"

"Hit him where it hurts as hard as I can and then run?"

"That's right," Matthew said with a weak smile, and then sighed. "Don't do anything you'll regret, all right?"

"Okay. Bye!"

"Wait... Nevermind," Matthew muttered, and rubbed at the by-now permanent creases between his eyes. His blood sugar was low and he needed maple syrup. Alfred was more than capable of taking care of himself.

I really like this. Canada's worry and the implied drilling of the 'bad touch' talk to America was a great touch. Thank you, and I hope for more!

....when you say USUK....is that the pairing for this, or is there just this little bit with it, and i presume the next chapter?

It won't be too much of a feature, love. Just something to get the plot moving. I'm not a fan of the pairing at all, and so I try to keep it to a bare minimum in most of my stories.

Oh good >.>;; I am in the same boat as you. Not to disparage those who do like it, of course, just not my cup of tea.

I am interested to see how this plays out.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

USUK is definitely not in my top 100(x1000) preferred pairings and it would've definitely been a great pity for me to leave this story.

I just cannot stand it.

That was awesome! First, the switch in POV. Glad to be in the head of someone who sees Alfred from the outside and doesn't know of his secret. You made it strangely believable, man, that this could very well be the truth behind Alfred's behaviour! Your descriptions of him are simply adorable; the pouts, looks, the wide and unrestrained beautiful grins, the big blue eyes I have a weakness for them, everything.

he had a penchant for these euphemisms probably honed in the Cold War when he was making veiled threats at anyone and everyone.

This was great. I suspect you'll be doing the same with Russia, if it ever comes up, and it's great that others have interpreted that kind of vocabulary as threatening between them. It makes so much sense, because the Cold War, at times, was something incredibly childish and ridiculous in concept.

And the ogling was great because it was followed by super protective big brother Matt! I so rarely cheer on Canada these days, but your Canada is great, I love him. I'm also really glad that you chose USUK, it's one of my favourite pairings, and the way England's interest unfolds is believable and mature, and such a good contrast. And Matt knows him so well, his intentions are so clear to him...it must be a nightmare to keep others from flirting with Al. But man, poor England, he doesn't know anything, it isn't like he's a creepy pedo (in fact he's attracted to Alfred's very mature looks). I love what Matt and Al have agreed on about badtouching, it was so sweet, and very clever on Matt's part: if he can make All understand what should be punished like that, Al will do just fine on his own, due to his strength.
I probably shouldn't have squeed as hard as I did when Al said that at the end; but I could picture his happy innocent face while saying that, and it was ADORABLE <3

Oho, the plot thickens.

Man, this is one of those fills where there's something to love about every line.

Misunderstandings abound!

Arthur found himself dabbing at the corner of Alfred's lips with a napkin. He had no idea why the superpower made him want to be so damn matronly.

"One would think after decades of eating burgers that you would have perfected a way of consumption that didn't result in half of the sandwich being splattered across your face," Arthur scolded, though affectionately. Alfred laughed and then his eyes darkened as he looked just over Arthur's shoulder. "What are you doing here?"

"Free country, yes?"

Oh, God.

Arthur turned around and saw Ivan Braginsky standing there, hulking form framed by the doorway with a weakly smiling Toris Lorinaitis at his side. Ivan had a Rubik's cube in his hand in lieu of the iconic metal pipe, and had already finished the red side.

With his peculiar oblivion, Ivan didn't notice Alfred's death glare and sat down at the table next to them, almost immediately absorbed in his game.

"Hello Arthur, Alfred," Toris said with an apologetic grin. "How are you?"

"I'm well, thank you. Jetlagged a little, still," Arthur said ruefully. Toris nodded, and turned to Alfred.

"How are you dear?" he said with a doting smile.

"I wish you'd come back," Alfred said quietly. "I don't like Vi half as much as you."

Toris laughed gently, and Alfred blushed deep scarlet. Arthur looked at this reaction and possibly inferred a great deal more than was there.

"I hope you're not giving her a hard time," the Lithuanian said, and without even looking at Ivan said, "The candles are for light, Ivan. Not for burning napkins."

"Sorry," Ivan said repentantly, and looked at Alfred. "You shouldn't eat so much. You'll get fat."

"I'm not talking to you still," was the petulant response, and Alfred fiddled with the last of his salad. Horrified by the lack of diplomacy, Arthur started spluttering an apology on Alfred's behalf, but was interrupted by Ivan's lighthearted comment of, "Oh, I know. I was just seeing if I could trick you."

Alfred glared and stuffed a forkful of salad into his mouth viciously. Ivan seemed satisfied by this reaction, and then showed his Rubik's cube to Toris.

"Look, I finished," he said proudly. Toris smiled, and started mixing it up again.

"Let's go, Arthur," Alfred said, pulling on Arthur's sleeve without even looking away from Ivan. "We could go to the park. I think it has swings."

"What about the bill, Alfred?" Arthur asked. Alfred gave him a blank look, and Arthur sighed. No wonder they were in a recession. "I suppose I'll pay for it."

He walked to the cash, leaving the three alone.

"Bye, Toris. Ivan better be real nice to you," Alfred said with a smile and a hug. Toris laughed breathlessly in the tight grip of the superpower. Ivan didn't seem to notice the affection, absorbed in his Rubik's cube.

"No matter what you say, I know you two still want to be friends," he whispered. "You should come to see him in Moscow sometime, dear. He gets very lonely sometimes."

"That's his fault."

"The bill's accounted for," Arthur said, walking back. He didn't hear the exchange between the two of them, and only really registered Toris whispering something into Alfred's ear. So that's why nobody knew who Alfred was with. Who'd have known?

It was a brisk autumn day, and the winds had picked up while the two had been in the restaurant. Alfred pulled his windbreaker over his shoulders with a barely suppressed shudder. The chill had nipped his cheeks and nose an adorable shade of pink.

"Golly gee, it's chilly," he said cheerfully. "Not as cold as the one Hallowe'en in '92 where I was Freddy Krueger, though."

"You went trick-or-treating in the 90's?" Arthur said incredulously. "Aren't you a little old for that?"

Alfred gave him another one of those completely oblivious expressions, and Arthur let the subject go.

"Oh, no swings. And I thought this park had one," Alfred muttered with a downtrodden look.

"We're going to be late if we don't turn back now, anyhow," Arthur said, looking at his watch with a frown. "Do you want to walk? Or should we hail a taxi to get back early?"

"Let's just walk," Alfred said, stuffing his hands in his pockets and kicking at a pebble.

"So, how long have you and Toris known each other?" Arthur asked as they walked. He had pulled the collar of his coat over his ears to protect against the cold.

"Since 1921, I think," Alfred said with a grin. "We were friends for the longest time. But then he went back to stay with Ivan..."

"Is that why you won't talk to him anymore?" Arthur said with a smile. Alfred nodded. "You must be very lonely."

"I got Mattie," Alfred said with a shrug.

His blue eyes were hooded slightly from memory of something, and his lips turned down, almost forming a pout. Arthur placed a hand against the boy's cheek, and placed his mouth against Alfred's. Slightly chapped lips tasted of root beer and autumn, if that were even possible, though before Arthur could even contemplate the oddity of this, Alfred pulled away.

"What are you doing?" he asked, confusion darkening his eyes.

"It's called a kiss, love," Arthur said, one of his hands slipping down from Alfred's shoulder to rest at his hip. "You needn't play dumb with me. It might work with others, but..."

Seeing stars, he found himself sprawled against the pavement. After a few moments, Arthur sat up, wiped blood away from his nose, and tried not to think about the bump that was probably forming on the back of his head.

Alfred was nowhere to be seen. Arthur blinked hard and stood up, confused as to what had just happened.

OMG poor Arthur, lol. The thing is, he's not feeling half as bad as he will when he realises what's up.

In the meantime, I felt bad for him during the lunch, but also amused because he was the only one sitting at the table that didn't know what was going on xD
Liet is so sweet. So he was Al's caretaker in the past, right? But the Russian government hired him back. Ivan was so adorably childish too, trying to get a rise out of his ex-friend...I hope we get to see them getting along better, because they're simply adorable here. And Ivan is a genius child, solving Rubikcubes; the way he was so engrossed in it when Al was saying goodbye to Toris made me think of my autistic cousin, curiously enough. I loved when he apologised so quickly after being chastised by the Lithuanian!

I also loved the misunderstanding between Arthur and Toris, regarding the nature of his relationship with Al. It seemed...understandable, but also the cause of much future facepalming that I can't wait to see xD

freddy!Al in Halloween, dawwwwwwwww ~~

I love Matt's advice. It reminds me of the advice my dad gave me all the time when I was little (except he told me to just scream really loudly and he'd come running). And I just really love Alfred's childishness. And, Ivan + Rubik's cube = <3

Recaptcha: "giving afaxed". So kind, afaxed!
