Mistaken Message [1a/?] anonymous January 11 2011, 23:06:17 UTC
Matthew quietly sat in the back of the classroom during economics. The rest of the class was caught up in some sort of discussion Matthew wasn’t paying attention to. With everybody busy, nobody would notice he was occupied with other things. Not that he was noticed that much anyway.

Dear Yekaterina,

He started the letter, but then ripped the paper out of his notepad and crumpled the thing up. That was no good. He tried again.

Dearest Katya,

That was better. Why would he use her full name in a letter when he just called her Katya when he was talking to her? Now onto the next line. For a moment he sat there, staring intensely at his paper as if the letter would write itself. The tip of his pen was touching the paper, but no words were being written down. How could this be so hard? He had repeated the things he wanted to tell her in his head about a million times already, but for some reason he just couldn’t seem to write them down.

He took a deep breath and started with writing down the thing he absolutely had to include in the letter.

I really like you.

Matthew was so focused on his letter that he didn’t notice someone was looking at his paper as he wrote. That is, until a voice snapped him out of his thoughts.

“Mathieu is in love? How cute!” Francis cooed. Matthew, instantly bright red, shot him a glare and quickly put his hand over his writing. The harm was done though, Francis had found out, and also perked the interest of his two friends with his words. Francis, Antonio and Gilbert were all showing identical grins, which couldn’t mean something good.

“You’re doing this all wrong though, Mathieu.” Francis said and snatched the notepad away from Matthew. He turned to a blank page and took a nice, red pen and started to write.

“My Dearest,” Francis mumbled as he wrote. “I want you to know that I enjoy seeing you a lot.”

“Give that back.” Matthew hissed embarrassedly, but Francis just smiled and continued.

“You are the sunshine that lights up my every day. Whenever I lay eyes on you, my heart feels a little lighter.”

Matthew reached for the notepad, but Gilbert came in between and held the Canadian back. “Say something about her nice rack!” The albino threw in.

Francis shook his head. “That needs to be phrased more subtle, Gilbert.” He corrected. “I would like it if you wore tight fitting shirts more often.” He wrote down.

Antonio apparently wanted to join in as well and took the notepad from Francis. “Your skin is as smooth as the surface of a perfect tomato. I haven’t actually touched it, but it looks that way. I like tomatoes a lot.” The Spaniard thought for a moment before drawing a happy smiley next to what he wrote.

Matthew could just die of embarrassment right there and then. To bad he didn’t, since now he had to listen to what those three came up with. No matter what, that letter was not going to be send.

Gilbert snatched the notepad out of Antonio’s hands. “You can’t write that.” He said. “Let me handle this. You are almost the most awesome person I’ve ever seen.”

“Almost?” Antonio asked.

“Well, I am obviously more awesome.” Was the German’s answer.

Francis took it out of Gilbert’s hands again and continued. “I would love to get to know you better. Somewhere in a private setting, preferably. I can bring a bottle of good wine and who knows what can happen.” For some reason, Matthew was thankful that the way the Frenchman waggled his eyebrows could not be written down.

The three continued to write for a while, until Francis finally signed it with “Matthew Williams.” He carefully ripped the paper out of the notepad and looked at it with a pleased expression. “What do you think, boys?” He asked the other two.

“I like it.” Antonio said.

“It’s a work of art!” Gilbert exclaimed loudly. A bit too loudly, since the next moment the blackboard eraser connected with his head.

“Pay attention!” The teacher shouted. Mister van Rijn didn’t like to be interrupted. The Dutchman could get pretty scary when he was like this.

While the other three were distracted, Matthew quickly snatched back his notepad and the ‘love letter’.

“Class dismissed.” The teacher said. “Drop your homework on my desk when you leave.”

Matthew was the first to get up. He shoved his books in his bag with a little more force then necessary, placed his homework on the teacher’s desk and fled before Francis, Antonio and Gilbert could think of more ways to embarrass him.

Though in his hurry to get away, he hadn’t noticed that it wasn’t just his homework what he had handed in.

The Dutch are fairly good traders and are also cheapskates, so I thought Netherlands would do good as an economics teacher.
I hope this is a bit like what OP had in mind.

Of course it's what OP had in mind! anonymous January 12 2011, 04:50:17 UTC
Yup ^^ Oh what happened in my school was that the senior admin (principal, vice principals and the like) got this boy's email to his crush. Was pretty hilarious. Anyway, Netherlands! (Am part Dutch myself and am happy to see him lulz) Hoho, way to go with the BFT and poor Canada! Love how they completely rewrote his letter and how Netherlands threw the blackboard eraser at Prussia's head! (Brings back good memories of my primary school days!) shall go back to stalking the thread until your next update

The initial shock came when Matthew found out the letter wasn’t in his bag anymore. That was ridiculous, he was sure he stuffed it in there. After going through the contents of his bag three more times he was forced to accept that no, it was not in there.

Maybe he had lost it. Or accidentally left it in the classroom. Crap. The last thing he wanted was some prankster finding it, copying it and hanging the thing all over the school. That letter was signed with his name. Not in his handwriting, but who the hell would recognize his handwriting of all things? They barely remembered who Matthew Williams was in the first place. Well, if anyone ever found that thing they surely would remember Matthew Williams for a long time. And not in a good way. He had to find it.

After a trip back to the classroom had proven useless, Matthew searched his mind, thinking of places it could be. Then it came to him. Francis, Antonio and Gilbert must have laid hands on it somehow, for whatever reason. They were the ones who wrote it, after all.

It took him a while to find them, but eventually he managed to get Francis cornered in some hallway. “Where is it?” Matthew wanted to know. His nearly non-existent social life depended on finding that letter and destroying it.

“Where’s what?” Francis asked.

“You know what I’m talking about!” Though Francis did do a very good job with faking genuine confusion.

The taller blond raised an eyebrow. “You’ll have to be more specific, Mathieu. I know lots of ‘its’ and where I put them, but I don’t think any of those are of your concern.”

“That… That letter.” Matthew lowered his voice so nobody would overhear. His effort was in vain though.

“Oh, your little love letter!” Francis practically shouted out, causing a few heads to turn their way. Matthew turned beet red. “You took it, remember? Have you send it yet?”

“It’s not my letter! You guys wrote it.” Matthew defended himself. “And it’s gone.” He added quietly.

“You lost it? Such a shame. I can write-”

“No.” Matthew said before Francis could finish that offer. The last thing he needed was two of those letter being in existence. This situation gave him a new problem though. If Francis said he didn’t know where it was, he was pretty sure the other two wouldn’t have it either. So now he had no clue about where that cursed piece of paper could be.

He felt an arm casually being draped over his shoulders and looked up at Francis. “If you really want to be with Yekaterina, I could give you some pointers?”

Matthew was reluctant to accept any help about this subject at the moment. “What pointers?” The Canadian asked none the less, figuring it couldn’t hurt to hear him out.

The search for the lost letter was momentarily pushed to the back of the Canadian’s mind. He had a different mission to focus on right now. He had a plan. He was going to ask her out. He should have worked up the balls to do this before he even thought of telling her in a letter. This had to be done face to face. No matter how much his stomach wanted to jump up his throat and run off at just the thought of it.

Matthew led Katya through the hallways. In between the perverted remarks of Francis’ pointers, Matthew had actually managed to find a few useful things. He held open the door for her and offered her a seat on a quiet and romantic spot. For how far the school canteen could be considered either quiet or romantic, at least.

He poked his lunch, the nerves driving out the hunger. He glanced up at Katya every once in a while, who seemed to be getting a bit worried at his silence.

“Are you alright, Matthew?” She asked.

Matthew gave her a big smile, deciding that he should get on with this already. “Yes. I’m fine.”

There was a short silence, in which Matthew gathered his courage.

“Hey Katya, you like movies, right?” A question that was always followed by the answer ‘yes’, and that was no different in this case.

“Yes, I do.” The Ukrainian said with a smile.

“Well… There’s just some new ones out, and I heard some of them are pretty good.” Matthew tried to keep his eyes on the girl in front of him, but they kept drifting off. “And I was wondering, maybe we could go see one sometime… together?”

Katya blinked, but then smiled. “Sure. That would be fun.”

Matthew’s face lit up in an instant. “Really? Okay, what about this Saturday?” He asked.

And thus, when Matthew left that canteen, he had a date. He had a date. The rest of the week was spent looking forward to that weekend.

The one above should have been "Mistaken Message [2b/?]". I forgot to change the title when posting.

It was Friday, economics, last class of the day. Matthew stared at the teacher, who was writing some notes on the blackboard, but his attention wasn’t with what he was saying. Tomorrow was the big day. The day of his date.

He shook his head to get his thoughts together. He needed to pay attention. He had already wasted a lesson with that stupid letter (of which he still hadn’t heard anything. Maybe he got lucky and someone threw it away). Matthew couldn’t afford failing this class. He spent the rest of the lesson forcing himself to pay attention and take notes.

While actually paying attention to the teacher, Matthew noticed something. The man kept stealing glances in his direction. It was normal that a teacher would pay attention to his students, though Matthew was not one who was easily noticed. Even if he sat in the front row, some of the teachers seemed to look right through him. So to have one look at him so directly caught him off guard.

He did not have to wonder about this matter long, however. At the end of the class, Matthew was about to follow his fellow students out of the classroom when a hand on his shoulder stopped him. “Wait a minute, Williams. I want to have a word with you.”

Matthew looked up at the tall man and nodded. The teacher waited patiently until the classroom was empty, save for them, and closed the door. “Your homework from last class was interesting, to say the least.” He said as he walked past Matthew to reach his desk.

“It was?” Matthew asked, not sure which part of it should have been particularly interesting for the man. He didn’t think his homework differed that much from what the other students must have handed in. Though he could not have been more wrong.

When the teacher picked up a piece of paper from his desk, Matthew let out a small gasp. He recognized that piece of paper, and it was not his homework.

“You want me to wear tight shirts and meet me in private with a bottle of wine?” An eyebrow was raised.

This was very embarrassing, and for some reason the teacher’s casual way of speaking made the Canadian even more flustered. “I… That’s not… I mean…” He started to stammer out. He could not believe he had been so stupid not to notice he had handed in the letter with his homework. “That was never meant to be sent. Can I have it back?” Matthew asked when he found back his ability to speak complete sentences. His cheeks were bright red and he wished he would just sink through the floor right here and now.

The teacher put the letter down on a stack of other papers on his desk. “I think I’ll hang onto this for now.” Then he approached Matthew, coming a bit to close for comfort. He leaned down so he could face his student on eyelevel, showing him a devious little smirk. “Maybe I’ll take you up on that offer sometime.”

Matthew felt a hand brush over his bottom and a small gasp escaped from his throat. The teacher stepped back, went back to his desk and sat down in his chair. “You may go.” He dismissed the boy.

And Matthew left that classroom as fast as his feet could carry him.
