Pas de Deux (1/?) anonymous December 15 2010, 19:54:23 UTC
Hi everybody, I'm second potential filler, sorry but not Cold War in this AU

He’s the Moor.

An Ivan has not idea of how accurate that portrayal would turn to be.

He’s the foolish, vain, the big and the gorgeous, the villain and the winner. But much more important he’s in Petrushka. Not that Ivan doesn’t care about who is dancing Petrushcka of course he matters, he’s the Guest Start with slim body and athletic moves, but Francis, Francis is someone he know, he belongs to his academy and he’s dancing with the Ballerina in a well now theater.

To understand his enthusiasm we have to know that for Ivan Petrushcka is sacred. Maybe because his parents spoke about it with the reverence they use to talk about all the things that remind them of Russia. Or maybe because he at the worships Stravinsky and wish he was a better violinist only to play his works.

Francis dancing the ballet showed him it was possible if he try harder, practice more, devotes more time. He could do the same and maybe even more, maybe dancing with the Opera. It was not unatainable.

After seeing him as the Moor, Ivan wants to talk to him but can’t build the courage. He’s after all a principal dancer what will he say to a twelve years old aspirant. But seeing the blond always loud, always beautiful makes he wants to talk to him.

He did finally one day, it was although no intentional. That day he stays more time as his movements are not fluid, elastic. He looks at his feet in the mirror and wants to curse. Protest at the beauty that refuses to appear trough him. He tried to convey beauty since the first time he saw Natalya dancing with his class. But he do it again and again it’s too fragmented to artificial, three tries latter he violently pull out his shoes and threw them to the corner.

- Are you done- Asked a voice behind him. And of course it was Francis and Ivan want to cry and run but he don’t and stay there petrified.

- I loved your Moor. - He said. Once again, faillin to sound coherent, like he do so often at school with the others girls in the Academy and at home.

Francis doesn’t seem perturbed. He smiles a wide smile that makes him look younger more close to the teenage he is.

- Thank you it took a lot of work but it was an amazing experience. - He looked at the boy a tall blonde with strange eyes and a wide childish smile. He seem sweet and that makes Francis become a little didactic.- An experience that I sure didn’t achieve it doing shoes spectacles.
The boy looked suddenly very hurt and presses his lips in anger.

- But Jones surely do so I’ not criticizing your methods. - Added Francis quickly.

- Jones did?

-He could he’s rather temperamental. But it’s normal I guess being the grand star of New York. - By the way. I’m Francis Bonnefoy.

-I’m Ivan.

Francis smiled again.

-Tsarevich?- Asked the taller boy serious.

Ivan laughed at the remark, recognizing the name.

-Oh god, ballet jokes, do are lame. Aren’t they? - Said Francis chuckling.

That was it! Ivan Tsarevicht is the main character of The Firebird a famous ballet

Anon, I like your writing style a lot and I think this has a lot of potential, but maybe you should consider bouncing the next parts off a beta? I seriously don't mean this as an offence and I'll keep reading regardless (you might not have time to check with a beta, or it might be too hard to find, I'd understand), but sometimes the lack of punctuaction and some mispellings make the writing a bit hard to follow and that's really a pity.

I'd offer but I am not a native speaker. You can try to ask somebody on this thread, thought? http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/15405.html

Like I said, I hope you continue regardless. Your characterization is really nice (I really like the dialogues) and I like your Russia a lot, he's very sweet<3.

Anon is so ashamed to post it so late, I promise next chapter will be added much sooner and will be longer.

He’s Franz.

The crazy doll maker is a good representation of their young and temperamental teacher, Raivis Galante. And Franza even resemble Francis names.

- Who knows what ballet it’s from?- Asked Raivis starting the recording.
Ivan knows the answer but says nothing.
- Coppelia.- Feliks answered with his always cheerful and always high and annoying voice Ivan couldn't stand.
- Exactly.
- And we’re like Franz or Coppelia? - Felik said amused.
- Franz of course, but don’t worry you will dance without free will and without other options under my command like Coppelia. - Answered Rauvus smiling, the boys couldn’t tell if it was a joke or not.

Raivis did say that becoming Coppelia, the dancing doll, required a very strong soul .

That they were three boys of about the same age and thus Ivan's rivals. Feliks with his energy, his self proclaimed talenta nd his charisma and social skills that wouldn't be big deal if they didn't allow him to be best friend with an older Hungarian solstoi tha might help him later. But specially Ludwig and the real superiority of a boy who once was a gymnast his well done moves, those Saut de chats that were something like flying and discipline. It was hard. All became harder, more painful and dramatic for Ivan; he picked fights with Raivis, with Feliks his moves were too exalted, impatient. And yet he loved nothing more than ballet.

He wanted to be admired. He wanted to be better the best. To gain fight and dominate every pounce, every move his legs had to spread, be a little more wide a little sorer. Knowing that he should practice more because he wasn’t perfect like Ludwig, extroverted like Feliks or self sufficient like his sister Natalya that only seemed to need him and dancing.

Even Natalya was stronger than him. Dominique, their neighbor made her mother cry when she complained about the steps and jumps late at night. Knowing that his husband wouldn’t care she begged Ivan to talk with his sister. He did and Natalya quitted jumping and resume to do silent rondes de jambes at night.
Sometimes he felt like Coppelia whose only purpose in life is dancing. Ivan found that a good purpose. Something he could build his life around.

As Franz lurked at Coppelia through his window, Francis you would come and watch them practice when he had a free period. And while he was watching Ivan would be as perfect as he could. Only his moves could make him somehow interesting to the elder student. He was living in the ballet while Francis was outside, enjoying fresh air.

When he spoke with Francis he felt the different. His conversations were with filled with girls, friends, and ideologies, the Parisian night life. He talked about the new creation of The Corsaire because he didn’t feel comfortable talking about anything else. All of Francis experience was tenting however; Ivan figured it was long to obtain, distracting; he would have time for it later.

He was fine with being Coppelia if Franz was waiting outside.

I really love this story the way you write it is beautiful and I'm really intrigued about where it's going to go next.

A quest though, could you post this to the fills post please? I'm not sure other reader realize you've updated which is a shame because it's a great story.

Ivan pictures himself playing Spartacus sometimes.

It’s the ballet they are studying now.

Sitting in the floor, his group, try not to fall asleep while Mr. Vargas explain the technique. Boys and girl are still tired from the training they just finished. Lily listens to Monique discreet chatting. They are bothering Ivan who is trying to listen but he can’t protest, he has enough problems with his peers already. And it would be quite embarrassing to admit that he frequently prefers ballet at that stage, when they are still studying it in videos and he is not engaged in a deadly combat against muscles that refuse to obey. He tries to ignore the girls and imagine it’s his first big role, the theater is full and he can dance.

He would make a good Spartacus. Spartacus is strong for a male lead, which is refreshing.

Sometimes Ivan thinks that all the ballet roles are done for one type of boy, Ludwig. He is very jealous of him. Ludwig body is strong and proportionate, his moves are fluid and his jumps are high. But he would make a better Spartacus, if only because he is taller. Spartacus is a fascinating role, one for men not for slender princess that can’t lift a girl like Feliks, it would be too big to the annoying prep despite the obvious talent everyone seems to see in him. Ivan would never admit he is jealous of Feliks.

He would made a good Spartacus, he decides, but maybe Francis would be better and not only because he is a fantastic dancer. Francis has this masculine yet graceful attitude, a bit sarcastic and a bit proud it would be great for a rebellious slave. Ivan can picture that and it’s better that picturing him for some reason.

- I don’t like Spartacus.

That’s what Francis says when Ivan tells him about the ballet after classes.

- Why?

- I think it’s not ballet material. - They are outside in the cold streets of Paris and Francis is smoking. - You have this adventure, this historic event and then the love history. And they are glued together in two acts and none is delivered. I don’t like it at all.

Suddenly he feels angry and almost hurt by the older boy remark but Ivan, always a little hot-headed couldn’t protest when it comes to Francis. Admiration does that.

- Oh.

Francis notices that Ivan is silent but he says nothing. He makes Ivan even angrier and he thinks on running. When he was younger often after beating someone out of rage, Ivan he would run. He had never been good with anger. Francis is still smoking while they pass across an almost desert residential area. Sometimes Ivan hates it that Francis is older and more experienced and he feels that he only hang out with him to distract him in the way to the metro station.

- But that’s me. What about you, why do you like Spartacus?

Ivan remains silent. Francis looks at him and continues.

- I get its original tough, well tough and the pas de deux is interesting even if it’s more grabbing the girl and moving her like a doll for 15 minutes. And then dancing with half naked men. - Francis is making Ivan slightly uncomfortable in purpose, both know it. - Maybe you’re right mec, it’s a great ballet once you think about it.

He is teasing but what he doesn’t know is just how much it embarrasses Ivan. By now others would be disgusted or annoyed when Francis link ever single conversation to sex. But Ivan feels awkward every time. Only to get ride of the feeling he talks.

- No. It’s not that. Spartacus has a sense it’s not a daydreaming think Spartacus is…meaningful in that he is doing thinks for a reason, liberating himself for the Romans. He is violent and nobody likes it really that’s why it’s not performed very much. Only in Russia you have to do it really well to show that, that they are not dancing for the sake of the pas de deux but because of the oppression of the Roman that will kill him and rape his wife and go to war it’s not only dancing cute and jumping right is telling a history.

Ivan hopes he didn’t sounds harsh. Francis smirks.

- I see. Only don’t kill me with your revolutionary muscles Spartacus, I’m an older and smaller Roman patrician it wouldn’t be fair.

Francis laughs he is mocking him but Ivan feel now less angry and much more ashamed, it’s always like that with Francis. Ivan wonders why he has this effect on him.

Wonderful. Absolutely beautifully written, this whole thing really is and has such a strong melancholy feel to it without getting to oppressive levels which really suits a story involving two men and ballet (though honestly my relationship with ballet may be why I feel that way). I just adore this fill and the way you write so much. Plus Ivan and Francis are a pairing that I log and feel like there is never enough stuff with the two of them. Oh anon don't stop writing this fill until its complete ♥
