Tainting the Night [2b/?] anonymous October 31 2010, 16:51:36 UTC
“That's it!” the American jumped to his feet and within seconds had grabbed the cross and captured the Brit in a tight hug. “Thank you so much! You have no idea how important this is to me! Where did you find it anyway?”

A blush filled the Englishman's cheeks as the younger man embraced him. He made a few squawks of protest before accepting that he was going to be hugged until the sophomore saw fit to release him. “I-I found it in the h-hallway yesterday,” he replied. “It must have been after you got home.”

“You have no idea how much this means to me!” Alfred exclaimed, finally releasing the flustered Brit.

“Obviously quite a bit,” the elder replied, fixing his clothing that had become disarrayed from the embrace. “Why is it so important anyway?”

“Well,” the American began, scratching the back of his neck sheepishly, “when one of my friends turned thirteen he had a bar mitzva and I was kinda jealous, my family's Christian, so Mattie got mom and dad to buy us matching necklaces. His is black oak with a silver chain though.”

“Hah, you don't say,” the Englishman replied with the air of someone ready to leave. “Well, I must be going, business to attend to and all that. Farewell.”

“Night, man!” the younger called back. “Thanks again! I owe you one!” Then he cheerfully went back into his apartment.

Arthur sighed and muttered, “You don't owe me anything,” before continuing on his way out of the building.

Wow, the first part was so hot! I really enjoy the notion of vampires taking advantage of their neighbours like that (even if there's a little conscience peeking there), Arthur makes a really hot vampire (I hope Francis is another ^^), and the whole 'virgin' angle makes me wet my panties, damn you.
The second chapter was strangely cute but also a little unsettling; I think it's because you're doing an excellent job drawing paralellisms to traditional vampire lore, like Arthur's gaunt appearance before eating, virgin blood being the best, vampires being highly sexualized creatures (the ravenous way in which he pulled and made out with Alfred, the speed at which he started to suck him off...), and the victim starts being distracted and neglecting human needs like eating, classes, short attention, and being exhausted and dizzy. This is truly delicious ^^

Ack! You have revealed me as a total vampire fan. I was really into vampires before Twilight came along. I didn't revisit my love of the blood-suckers until I read Dracula last year. I absolutely loved it! The copy I own has an essay at the back talking about the vampire as a sex-symbol, so that has probably heavily influenced my interpretation of them...that and Chibi Vampire...

Arthur only managed to make it to the poorly lit lobby before he ran into Francis, reeking of roses as always.

“Arthur, cheri, how are are you?” the Frenchman asked cheerfully, wrapping his deceptively strong arms around the smaller man. “You haven't been eating much recently, I've been so worried.”

“I was distracted by my research, you know that,” the Englishman replied irritably, easily pushing the bearded man off of him.

“Ah, your never ending search for anything that blurs the line between us and humans. What is it this time? A mix of herbs that temporarily changes you to a human? A bracelet that gives the human wearer the powers of a vampire? A love potion?”

“Belt up, you git!” Arthur answered, his annoyance obvious. His little patience was already worn thin. “It's none of your bloody business!”

“Oh but mon cher, it is always my business to know what is keeping my dear brother from eating this time,” Francis teased, swiftly snaking his arm around the Brit's slender waist in a less than brotherly fashion.

“Shut up! Just because we were turned by the same man does not make us brothers! And for your information I fed just last night!” the Englishman declared angrily, his voice laced with warnings and threats, as he violently slapped the other's hand away.

“Oh? You did? Who was the lucky man? I know you are so talented at what you do. The boy must be so thankful that he lost his virginity to such a skilled mouth, even if it is British.”

Arthur blushed, still embarrassed at having his technique discussed so bluntly, and looked guiltily away. “He...he doesn't know...”

“Well of course he doesn't, cheri,” the Frenchman agreed. “Even you would not be foolish enough to let a human wander around with such delicate knowledge.”

“No,” the Brit corrected, his face filled with pure shame, “He doesn't know at all. I wiped his memory completely... He still thinks he's a virgin!” The Englishman sunk his face into his hands, as if they were capable of hiding his failure from the world.

“Arthur,” Francis cautiously asked, “what did you do?” He began to slowly guide his companion back upstairs.

“I hadn't eaten in days, Francis, and he was there and he smelled so young and pure and good! I couldn't help myself! I pulled him into my flat and then I... I seduced him and drank him and swallowed his... Then I wiped his memory of the night and dragged him back to his own apartment. ...Tonight he thanked me. Thanked me! Because I returned his necklace that he lost when we... I... He... Oh god!”

“Cher, you are in no condition to go out tonight. We are going back to your apartment and you are going to tell me everything.” The Frenchman gently pulled his distraught friend along.

They had almost managed to make it to the Brit's apartment before they were intercepted by the man Arthur wanted to see least in the world.

“Oh my god! Arthur! Are you okay?” Alfred asked, running from the vending machine, soda in hand, to meet them.

“I'm fine!” the Englishman replied to his neighbor's questioning. He felt his face flushing as he leaned further against Francis in an attempt to hide from his guilt. “I'm just feeling a little under the weather.”

“Okay,” Alfred said, concern evident in his voice. “But if you need anything, I'm right across the hall.”

“I'll be alright,” Arthur replied, hoping to end the conversation quickly. “Francis may be a bloody frog and a right twat, but he can be responsible when he feels like it.”

“Come on, Arthur,” Francis suddenly spoke up. “Let's get you inside.” He opened the door and led the Brit into the apartment. As he did so, Alfred waved a farewell to his neighbor, which the Englishman halfheartedly returned.

The Frenchman helped his companion lie down on the nearby black leather couch and sat down in a matching chair across from it. “So Arthur,” he began carefully, “tell me exactly what has gotten you so distressed.”

Guh, still loving this so much! Francis is great in this. :D Is Mattie gonna make an appearance as well? And methinks Arthur is getting a crush on his dinner! I'm definitely in love with the more classic vampire feel. *excited to see more*

“W-well,” Arthur began, looking a little better than he had in the hallway. “I had found an amulet that was supposed to protect its wearer from our mind powers and had been researching it for days...weeks... So I hadn't eaten. I headed out to talk to Yao about the amulet, and he was there. He was there and I-I tried to ignore him, but he... He smelled like hamburgers, the scent of them clung to him,” the Englishman closed his eyes, deep in thought, remembering the sights and sounds and smells of the previous night. “...But it couldn't mask his scent... It was so crisp, so clean, so clear, so pure.”

“Arthur!” Francis interjected, pulling the other vampire out of a dangerous train of thought. The Brit's fangs had already exposed themselves -just from the memory- in anticipation of tasting the man's blood again. “Who was it?”

“Alfred,” Arthur whispered, his eyelids cracking open a fraction to expose his emerald irises. “Alfred F. Jones, nineteen year old college sophomore...and my neighbor.”

The Frenchman paused and took in this new information, adding it to his observations throughout the night. “Would that happen to be the young man we met in the hall?” he asked delicately, remembering that the distinct smell of hamburgers had wafted from the boy.

“Yes,” the Englishman replied wearily, “That's him. Alfred.” His voice tenderly caressed the name. “I brought him in here.”

“That's different from your usual pattern, mon ami,” Francis pointed out. “Usually you go to your partner's place and then leave right after. You always criticize me for dating my targets, but you have taken an even greater risk by feeding on someone you see everyday.” The Frenchman's concern for Arthur and their secret overriding his slight worry about the Brit's earlier signs of hunger.

“You think I don't know that?” the Englishman suddenly exclaimed, starting up into a sitting position. “Do you think I don't know that every time he sees me it just increases the chances that he'll remember?! That he'll remember what I did to him!? How I-”

“Calm down, Arthur, calm down,” the French vampire interrupted before his friend could descend into hysterics. “Tell me what happened next. You ran into him in the hall. Then what?”

The Englishman took a few breaths to calm himself before he continued with his story, “He said some sort of greeting and I couldn't, just couldn't, ignore him and his delicious scent. So I brought him into my flat and k-kissed him, his neck...” The Brit's cheeks began to flare up as memories and sensations from the previous night pressed to the forefront of his mind. “I led him to my bedroom,” the vampire continued, his eyes tracing the journey he and his target had taken last night. “He told me he was a virgin...and I...well, you know what I do...”

“Take your time, mon ami,” Francis murmured, silently willing Arthur to continue his tale.

“I bit him and he released. Then I went to wipe his memories, but he...he...” the English vampire trailed off.

“Arthur, what happened?” the Frenchman pressed.

“He touched my fang. He touched my fang, Francis! He touched it like it was something delicate that should be treasured!” Tears rushed to Arthur's eyes. “I couldn't stand it! Why, why, why did he have to do that?! Why did he have to make me feel like what I was doing to him was alright? I practically raped him and I drank his blood, so why... Why did he have to make me feel-” The vampire cut himself off with a choking sound.

Francis looked at his distraught friend. The normally cold green eyes were filled with suppressed tears, tears that the Brit was far too proud to shed, at least while someone was there. He crossed over to the couch and pulled the other vampire close to him. “Oh, Arthur. You're making a big deal out of nothing. He'll be slightly anemic for a day or two and then he'll be fine. More importantly, you're safe.”

They sat there for a few minutes, the Frenchman gently rocking the Brit while rubbing soothing circles into his back until Arthur regained enough control over himself to push Francis's comforting presence away stubbornly. They returned to the matter at hand.

“What happened next Arthur? Did you wipe his memory?”

“Of course! I wiped his memory, dressed him, and dragged him back to his flat,” the Englishman listed with an air of injured pride. “I must have missed his crucifix though. I found it in my bed earlier today and returned it to him.”

“It's a good thing, mon ami, that holy symbols do not affect us, otherwise we wouldn't be sitting here talking now,” Francis reminded his companion, subtly warning him to be more careful.

Alfred continued chipping away at his English paper, but his progress was impeded by thoughts of the man across the hall. Why did that scene feel familiar? He had never seen the Brit touch Francis unless it was to kick him out of his apartment. And he had certainly never seen him looking sick before...or had he? No, he hadn't. Arthur had never been sick as long as Alfred had been in the building.

Maybe this would provide him a good opportunity to hint at his affection to the other man. But what could he do? The college student wasn't a particularly good cook, and even if he was, he still didn't have that much money to spend on fancy ingredients.

Alfred shut down his laptop and made his way to his bedroom. He slipped off his pants, revealing his Superman boxers, and tossed them into the laundry basket overflowing with dirty clothes. Then he threw himself onto his bed. He felt more tired than was normal for him. He snuggled under his blankets and let sweet sleep overtake him.

Except his sleep wasn't sweet. His dreams were haunted by cold and hungry green eyes and Arthur, dear Arthur, was hovering above him with regret dominating his face, muttering about forgetting, forgetting something important, something Alfred wanted to remember, something that explained everything. Then Arthur told him to sleep. Alfred struggled against the order and the sudden weariness that attacked him.

“W...wait...Ar...thur...I...” I love you. He tried to speak, but his consciousness slipped from him and his heavy lids finally shut.

And suddenly Alfred was awake, flailing forward in an attempt to capture the phantom of the Englishman.

“Arthur,” he murmured, stroking his neck as he felt phantom kisses appearing there. Why did he have the feeling something important had happened? Surely if he had made any progress in winning his neighbor's heart he would remember it.

The college sophomore stretched, got out of bed, and prepared for another day of school.

He found Kiku studying in the library with Eduard. He casually approached his two friends and sat at the empty seat next to them.

“Kiku,” Alfred began, “I need your help.”

“With what, Alfred?” Kiku asked. “If it's homework, we could schedule another study session.”

“No, it's nothing to do with school. It's about Arthur,” he stated. He had told Kiku about his crush on his older neighbor a while ago, and he had mentioned it to Eduard a few times before as well. “He's sick and I want to do something for him, but I don't know what I can do.” Alfred absentmindedly toyed with the chain around his neck.

“Ah! Alfred, you found your necklace?” Kiku reacted, picking up on the other student's usual mannerism.

“Huh? Oh, yeah! Actually Arthur found it...” The American blushed slightly at the memory of that occurrence. “But what about my problem?” he pressed. “I need your help!”

The Japanese student pondered the situation briefly, then he responded. “What food does he like? In Japan, people often give their loved ones a boxed lunch. You could buy something and give it to him saying you're worried about his health.”

“Tea,” the sunny blond replied quickly. “He loves the stuff. It's almost all he ever buys.”

The dark-haired man nodded. “Have you noticed which brand or flavor he prefers?”

“Grey…and English...something, I think.” The American looked sheepish about his lack of knowledge.

Kiku simply nodded again and took out a piece of paper and a pen. “I'd suggest purchasing Twinings, either Earl Grey or English Breakfast.” He wrote the names down on the paper and handed it to his friend.

After school Alfred purchased a box of tea. He figured English Breakfast would be appropriate. In the lobby, purchase in hand, he spotted Francis on his way out of the building.

“Francis!” the American called. “How's Arthur?”

The Frenchman stopped and turned toward the younger man. “Ah, Arthur is fine. He's just being stubborn and moody. He'll be back to his normal, irritable self in no time.”

“Well, that's good to hear,” Alfred replied, relief plainly written all over his face.

“I would love to stay and chat about our beloved Brit, but I'm afraid I have a club to run.” Francis waved and swiftly left the enamored young man far behind him.

The college student dashed up two flights of stairs, his body vibrating with anxiety. What would Arthur say? What would he do? All too soon the young man stood in front of his neighbor's door and politely knocked as he danced anxiously from foot to foot.
