How Could I Live Without You? [2/?] LONG Notes

LONG Note: 1. OC!Indonesia. Or, more aptly, OC!Strait Settlement (the whole of Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam). British Empire’s rivals in East Indies were Netherlands and Portugal (But Portugal & BE are BFFs! And without England, Portugal would have been annexed by superpower!Spain). Without BE, Netherlands would own East Indies (and Australia too, I’d imagined. May be even Hong Kong. France may own some parts of Malaysia, though, since Indo-China is close to Malaysia). 2. Dutch for ‘who are you?’ 3. New York was named New Amsterdam before England bought it from the Netherlands. I was debating who America would belong to (Spain or France?) then I remembered that (plus, I so badly want to write about OC!Indonesia), so, Alfred has a Dutch name! 4. Dutch for ‘I don’t have time to deal with your crap’. I used googletranslate. Feel free to correct me. 5. Aussie’s Dutch name. And from now onwards, even though the conversations are written in English for convenience’s sake, it’s actually in Dutch, okie doki? 6. Hokkien (a dialect) for ‘Caucasian’ (quite a derogatory form) 7. Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie or VOC, or Dutch East Indian Company. Image: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:VOC.svg
Anon is very, very sorry that they're so late but loving the fill. I was not expecting that was the way that America got into the AU without England but very good job even if I don't recognise the woman.
I didn't even think about the East Indies but then the BE stretched quite far across the globe. Interesting changes so far, raising loads of questions that America was thinking, I wonder how he's going to deal with everything including the collar and the brand.
Interesting notes, I like how much thought you're putting into this. Can't wait for the next part.

About "Portugal (But Portugal & BE are BFFs! And without England, Portugal would have been annexed by superpower!Spain)", that's not right. The one time the Spanish conquered Portugal they were fought off without England's help. Napolion Bonaparte, on the other hand, was the real threat, and who knows what could have happened if the Luso-Anglo Alliance didn't exist.

'Luso-Anglo'...? Is that another term for Anglo-Portuguese Alliance? *looked over Napoleonic Wars wiki*. wha. I got things wrong. All along I thought Francis forced Antonio upon his own brother. Turned out Francis was acting alone.
Oh my. I really don't have enough knowledge of European history, do I? I-it's a difficult thing, an alternate history au which isn't based on a different outcome of a single event, but the absence of an influential former-empire. How strong would Spain become if England has never existed? Strong enough to prevent Napoleon from almost taking over the whole Europe? How many colonies had Spain and England fought over? Would Spain be able to obtain them all if England wasn't in the picture? Would Spain ever be strong enough to overpower his own brother/sister (whichever gender Portugal is in this au)? Then, would the most logical course of alternate history be France ruling over the world (since the nation that fought against England most times was France, after all?)
Uh-h...I'm losing confidence with the fill...I'd love to research more of European history...but with college starting (and my resolve to do better this semester. omg last semester...my cGPA had never been so...close to the dangerous zone)...
I know it's a difficult thing which is why I didn't think anyone would fill this for a very long time because of the sheer scale of research involved. On the other hand I think many things could have happened, like if you say that Spain could overpower Portugal, it could have happened in a world without England but there is a chance it couldn't. What I'm trying to say is that research will get you so far but then there is a certain amount of leeway because, like you said, it's not based on a different outcome of an event but rather a large part of European history (and world history) being removed.
I really would like you to continue this, but real life always comes before and I can be a patient OP. Plus I'm in the same position with university starting soon and the new course is going to eat into my writing time and of course I just started a WIP which needs lots of research as well. Anyway good luck with you GPA!
