The cold of the ice was a welcome relief from his fever. He shut his eyes and let it melt down his throat. When he opened his eyes, the spoon was at his lips again. He let Russia continue to feed him the ice chips. He found himself gradually relaxing, letting himself be comforted. It was hard to remember that this was big, bad, scary Russia. He was still struggling to understand why the other nation was being so kind to him.
Only when he felt a cool hand on his forehead, did Iceland realize that he was drifting off to sleep. He looked up at Russia, who was leaning over him, a slightly confused smile on his face as he pushed back Iceland’s hair. “You should sleep,” he said earnestly.
“I don’t want to keep you…” Iceland muttered, but he couldn’t deny how appealing the thought of sleep was.
“I’d like to stay with you,” Russia said, his voice almost anxious. “Please?”
Iceland nodded, too tired to put much thought into Russia’s odd behavior. He sunk back into the pile of pillows and shut his eyes. Faintly, he could feel Russia’s hands stroking his forehead and pulling up his blankets. Maybe he should have been worried, but there would be time for that later.
He thought that he heard Russia murmur something, but couldn’t focus on it before he slid into sleep.
