Anyways, it was gone now, somewhere beyond those iron bars- wait, iron bars!? Alfred lurched to his feet, groaning at the protests of his muscles. The window was about stomach-height, big enough for a man to crawl through, and also blocked by very sturdy iron bars. Alfred looked around, suddenly alert; one entire side of the room was iron bars, the door heavily padlocked.
Someone had tried to lock him up. After a second, Alfred began to chuckle, and stumbled over to the window, his legs still not really obeying his orders. Jeez, someone really was that stupid; didn’t everyone know by now that he was too strong to be held in by some stupid iron bars?
He reached out and yanked at the two bars closest to him, only to stumble back, swearing and shaking his suddenly-burnt hands. The bars were suddenly radiating forest-green light and humming gently. Dammit, that wasn’t natural, that was-
Sorcery.
All the color drained from Alfred’s face. He was being held prisoner by a sorcerer.
The general rule with sorcerers was that if you caught them weak, you burned them, before they could turn strong. And then you treated the strong sorcerers with respect, because they could do crazy stuff. Like enchant iron bars to burn at the touch. Or enslave you to their iron will. Or summon demons to torture you…
Alfred whimpered and sank to the floor. He was being held prisoner by a sorcerer, who was probably going to eat his soul and turn him into his mindless slave. Alfred hated magic; he couldn’t punch it into submission. When he was little he used to stay awake at night hiding under the covers from the three most legendary sorcerers of all, the Fate Triad, who his mother had told him wandered the land looking for naughty little boys to enslave. Maybe he had been caught by one of them, and Mattie too, imprisoned somewhere else. Or maybe Mattie had escaped, and he was all alone here, in a sorcerer’s clutches, with no one else to turn to. Alfred began to cry.
Sniffling and wiping his eyes with the back of his hand, he was suddenly shaken from his reverie by a diffident sneeze from the far corner of his cell. When he looked up, three animals were standing side by side, like army ranks, almost. First was what appeared to be a hare, its auburn coat mussed and curly. It studied him with wide brown eyes. Next to the bear was a very large actual dog with icy blue eyes and a slick, short golden coat, looking down its nose at him like he was a dead animal the dog had found on the ground. Finally was a small black cat, watching him expressionlessly.
The hare shuffled about a little when Alfred’s gaze fell on it, but snapped immediately back to attention when the dog swatted it gently with one huge paw. Alfred laughed nervously. “What’s with all the weird animals around here? First that creepy frog, and now you guys.”
The hare looked up at the dog. “Ve, Ludwig, what’s he talking about, a frog?”
This time, Alfred did scream like a little girl, and fainted very soon afterwards.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys <3 Hopefully you'll still like it now that the action's started. There was someone I forgot to mention in my original list of pairing candidates, but you can probably figure out who it is. Only pairing that is completely out of the running is FrUk, for plot-related reasons; I’m currently leaning toward RusCan and UsUk but that could definitely change. The next update will probably be centered around Alfred, with guest appearances by the Axis Powers and, finally, the Beast.

I must say I would look forward to RusCan and UsUk. Then again I ship pretty much all pairings, still it would be nice to see some Russia/Canada. So far I'm really liking this fill, can't wait to see how it all turns out!

This is charming Author!Anon! I'm really enjoying the RU/CA so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing it develop. And Alfred is so fun to read in this fill. Can't wait for more!! Great job so far!
...bunny Italy is just sort of ridiculously cute. :3
I AM HAVING SO MUCH FUN READING ANON! Creepy Ivan! Mentions of his sisters! Drinking with Matthew sets my little RussCan loving heart aflutter~ ♥! Gilbo's cameo! (I cannot wait for his next appearance) Froggy Francis! Alfred, lovably thick and terrified of magic!
OP is really looking forward to the next parts, especially Arthur's debut. :D
