Re: Provoking America [13f/14] anonymous October 31 2010, 17:18:11 UTC
When Alfred returned to the conference room, he was all back to false cheer and that All American Energy that was so common on him. He was smiling brightly when he entered the room, but Francis was eyeing him suspiciously, and Arthur was, once again, completely ignoring him except when he thought Alfred wasn’t looking.

He couldn’t believe himself. Why the hell had he brought that up? He wanted to bash himself over the head with Russia’s damn pipe. Hell, he’d probably let that damn commie bastard do it himself, what with how horrible he was feeling in that moment.

Both he and Arthur were done presenting that day, and Alfred took that opportunity to zone out and focus instead on how stupid he was and how hard Francis and Matthew were going to beat him over the head when he told them what had happened in the park. They had come up with the perfect plan for him and he had fucked it up.

When Francis had told him the full story he could hardly believe that Arthur would sleep with so many people just to get his attention. He still had a hard time believing it. Didn’t Arthur know that he had Alfred’s attention all the time? Even when Alfred himself didn’t realize it, it had been there. Sure, after Francis had told him everything, he had realized the way he had been behaving around Arthur prior to all of this probably hadn’t helped any, but he thought Arthur was stronger than that! How was he to know that Arthur cared so much?

Besides, wasn’t Arthur supposed to be a lot more straight forward than him anyway?

But no matter how he swung it, he couldn’t help but think that things would be so much better now if he had stayed and talked to Arthur that night at the last meetings instead of leaving him alone and running away back home.

The meetings finally ended for the day, and Alfred stood from the table, prepared to find the nearest Mickey D’s, glad that these French ones served alcohol, when someone tapped him on the shoulder.

He turned around, only to find himself face to face with Arthur, who had a nervous smile on his face. Alfred opened his mouth to speak, but Arthur stopped him. He watched curiously as the Brit took a deep breath and opened his own mouth.

“Hello. I’m Arthur Kirkland. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Alfred stared at him, dumbstruck. “What?” he asked, confused beyond belief. “Arthur, I know who you are. It would be pretty bad if I didn’t. What are you doing?”

“Starting over.” Arthur replied simply, looking at him hopefully.

Alfred grinned. “It’s a pleasure to meet you too, Arthur. The names Alfred Jones.”

“Would you like to perhaps join me for dinner tonight, Alfred? I’d love to get to know you better,” Arthur said, smiling back, and Alfred could swear he saw a mischievous little twinkle in Arthur’s eyes.

“I’d love to, Arthur. I’ll meet you in the hotel lobby at around 7 o’clock?”

“That sounds delightful, Alfred. I’ll see you there.”

WHEW. I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE'S JUST THE OMAKE LEFT DX Sorry for the lack of smut, but the Omake is set in the future a bit and there will be smut <3

Anyway, onto business. I'm thinking about de-anoning over at the USxUK comm after the omake is posted here. What do you think? Is there like....an amount of time you're supposed to wait after posting to de-anon? I wouldn't think there would be and this is probably a silly question, but I just wanted to check XD *shoots self in face* haha. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it :)

Oh wow, it's been quite a ride. Kudos to you! Pretty good writing all throughout.

I don't know if this ending sits quite well with me - not that it's bad, I just feel like there's a lot of unresolved issues and Alfred's quick switch to forgiveness just because France told him Arthur's 'reasons' (after the first disastrous sleeping together bit, I don't know if Arthur was even sleeping with the other Nations for making Alfred jealous anyway) -- so it's not I dislike the ending, I just wish there were more of it you know?

Another thing I'm wondering about is how Alfred will treat the Nations Arthur slept with. He's more powerful than they are...hell, Prussia's not even a country anymore. Wonder if he'll get back at them...the more so because the insecurity of being a relatively inexperienced Nation in bed as compared to them. (unless that changed over the break? I like to think it did....but then again this is one of the rare USUK fics that made me ship Alfred with other Nations as well...but even then I think Al would be insecure?)

In short, it's been an amazing ride and one that leaves a lot of questions that I wonder about - which means it's a good story, IMHO, cos bad stories you just want to forget about. What Arthur did and how he caused Al to act in response is such a complex, dramatic thing, I have a feeling it'll be shaping the way they interact for quite a while.

author!anon explains herself XD anonymous November 1 2010, 04:19:21 UTC
Hello anon!

I'm glad you liked it overall! I was thinking about that too, actually. I think part of the problem is that the story focuses almost entirely on Arthur's perspective, so you don't see much of what's going on on Alfred's side. You see how Arthur matures in their time apart but you don't see how much Alfred grows up in the same time period (he grew up quite a lot in my head XD).

I feel very unconfident in my Alfred which is why this story is so Arthur centric XD So yeah, I can see how Alfred's seemingly sudden change in attitude would seem awkward. What was happening in my head is that Alfred was maturing in their time apart and was beginning to forgive Arthur on his own but he couldn't completely forgive him until he knew why and was able to talk to Arthur himself. I was just having a hard time getting all that into the story because I fail at writing Alfred XD Does that make sense/make the ending fit any better for you?

I should probably edit all that into the actual story before when I de-anon and post all the chapters in my journal xD

author!anon is a fail and forgot stuff XD anonymous November 1 2010, 04:44:06 UTC
haha, I just went back to look over the way I wrote the first part of this chapter. Totally doesn't show all the changes that Alfred went through in my head XD though I did try to make it clear that Alfred hasn't TOTALLY forgiven Arthur by the time they met again. Just that he doesn't hate Arthur anymore and he's on his way to forgiving him.

And as for the way Alfred treats the other nations: I hate to say it, but I don't think that's something that's really going to be explored in this fic. :( I was focusing mainly on getting Al and Arthur together in the end =P The omake vaguely shows you their relationship in the future but yeah. It's mostly smutty. =/

I kinda shot myself into this fic without any definite plans. It was one of those it comes as it comes things so, unfortunately there are a lot of plot holes. I plan on adding stuff and fixing as many of them as I can before I de-anon. /first long fic I ever finished that wasn't based on something else/ Needless to say, I have learned that plot planning is key XD

I'm so sad there's just one part left omg ;_;

But bawww, this was so cute. For a moment I thought there weren't going to fix anything (because Al said something uncalled and Arthur left), but I'm glad they did, and that it was Arthur who went to Alfred after he left.

Aaand I think it was good leaving those holes. In my headcanon, Alfred forgave Arthur, but he didn't want to talk yet, or more like he needed a little push to do it, and it was Francis who gave him that push.. But that's my headcanon.

Btw, I hope you do de-anon so I can stalk you praise your properly, 'cause I really love this fill.

haha, thanks, I'm glad you like it. and yeah, your headcanon is basically the same as mine. so it's this fic!canon. not just headcanon :D haha. /shot/ but yeah, I'm glad you got that impression, but I do think I should add a little more Al!perspective to it before I deanon, since I do plan on doing so. praise stalk me all you want, anon ;D

OMG YOU MADE ME TEAR UP that's bad, I'm giving my bro lit lessons...
That ending! Oh, Arthur, I knew you ahd it in you! Thank you for reconsidering, thank you for trying, both of you guys, thank you! Even if Arthur got my storngest reaction for that end, it was Alfred's sweetness that shone bright here. This

“I do,” Alfred admitted. “Want to be happy, I mean. And make you happy.”

made me melt in all kinds of candy goo and unicorns and rainbows <3<3<3

I liked the ending, it tells another story of starting anew. Though I'm a little sad to see it end. That omake better have plenty of smut to make me feel better and maybe if you're confident enough you could do it in Alfred's perspective if you felt it lacked author!anon. Really it doesn't matter and I look forward to whatever comes.
