Re: Provoking America [11b/?] anonymous August 31 2010, 04:53:07 UTC
He stopped himself before he could say anything he would regret and took a deep breath. He took a deep breath. “Why?”

“Why what?” Arthur said coldly.

“Why did you do it? I’m not just talking about Russia, and don’t pretend you don’t know what I mean.”

“Why does it matter?” Arthur countered, afraid to explain himself now that he was sure Alfred hated him. He wouldn’t deny the fact that the boy deserved answers, but Arthur also knew that he wasn’t able to give them. Not without falling apart himself.

‘Even if I did tell you, would it really matter? You’d just find me even more pathetic and walk away.’

He didn’t deserve someone as innocent and caring as Alfred. He didn’t need Alfred to remind him of that fact.

“The past is just that. The past. We can’t change it.”

“That’s not an answer.”

“It’s time to go back to the meeting.” Arthur said tonelessly, standing up and throwing out his tea that had since gone cold in the nearest trash can.

“Arthur-”

“Stop it, Alfred.” Arthur said, gritting his teeth and steeling himself against his own emotions. “Why don’t you go take Taiwan out for dinner again. I’m sure she’d be glad to go with you. At least she doesn't have all the excess baggage. Don’t dawdle on your way to the meeting. You shouldn’t be late twice in one day.”

And with that, he turned on his heel and left America alone in the food court.

*

Arthur got no satisfaction out of Alfred listening to him and getting back to the meeting on time. The two of them still refused to look at each other and at this point, Alfred seemed to be refusing to look at anyone else as well.

The entire day seemed to be an awkward mess of meetings. No one seemed to know what to do with themselves when they weren’t being interrupted by one of America’s crazy schemes, which were in turn interrupted by England’s ridicule. The speeches were shorter than usual without the normal disruptions and even Germany didn’t object when Francis suggested they adjourn the meeting early when Poland, the last scheduled speaker, finished his presentation.

Arthur was grateful for the opportunity to leave. It was the last day of the meetings and he wouldn’t have to see Alfred for another few months. Plenty of time for them both to move on, he assured himself, hoping that he could believe that soon enough.

“Mon cher.”

Arthur sighed and turned around to face the French bastard. He had been so close to escape too. The elevator was only a few feet away.

“Come. Walk with me. We’ll take the stairs.” Francis said, offering his hand to Arthur.

Arthur ignored his hand but turned to walk toward the staircase anyway. It was sure to be less crowded than the elevator and Francis would still bother him either way.

“Arthur. Tell me what happened.” Francis said quietly once they were alone in the stairwell.

“What do you think happened?” Arthur snapped.

“I don’t know. It’s the truth mon cher. No one knows, but everyone is curious.”

“Oh, so you want me to tell you so you can go and spread the news to everyone about how badly I fucked up and how much Alfred hates me?” Arthur said, whipping around to face Francis. “This is all your fault, you damn wine bastard,” he hissed. “I hate you. I bloody hate you!” he said, willing himself to forget how Alfred had said almost the exact same thing to him the previous night.

“It is not me that you hate.” Francis said, his tone gentle but admonishing.

“Yes it is!” Arthur yelled, but he knew he was lying. And he knew that Francis knew it as well. “None of this would have happened if you hadn’t egged me on!”

“And since when do you listen to me?” Francis said, anger flashing in his eyes. This wasn’t his fault, dammit! “I never told you to go this far. Besides, you could have ignored me in the first place! You wouldn’t have done this if you didn’t want to. Don’t pin the blame on me. None of this would have happened if you weren’t such a cowardly fool.”

Arthur turned around and walked away, choosing not to acknowledge that he was merely proving Francis right by doing this.

*****

Alfred stared at his empty suitcase and the clothes that surrounded it on the bed. It felt as if packing away his clothes would be so final. That leaving the hotel would really mean that it was over and that Arthur was never going to love him.

And why would he? Arthur probably wanted someone more mature than him anyway. With all that experience who would want someone like Alfred? Before that first night with Arthur when he had stopped him from trying anything with Matthew, Alfred could count the number of times he’d had sex on less than five fingers. Arthur probably wanted someone that he knew could keep up with him in those more…intimate activities.

Sighing he lifted the first pair of slacks and tossed them haphazardly back into his suitcase. The rest of his suits followed suit and he took some childish pleasure at the thought of how much Arthur would hate the fact that he didn’t fold his clothing before packing it away.

He wasn’t what Arthur wanted anyway so why try?

With that thought, he packed the rest of his belongings and with one last backward glance into his room, shut the door behind him before dropping his key card off at the front desk.

And when he saw Israel doing the same thing, he thought, ‘Why not?’

“Hey Israel!”

*****

I hope you guys liked it :D don't worry, America is not about to go pull an England and go have sex with Israel. He's just trying to distance himself from England by hanging out with different nations :)

AWWWW.

I would have so loved to read or even just get to imagine some Israel/America. Besides, it'd be good for America, I think. More experience, some distance from America, and if/when he and Arthur get together, no "You're a slut and I'm not anything like that" sentiments to breed even more resentment.

just wondering whether you mean Israel and America SHOULD get it on or not? XD either way, it's cool, i'm just unsure of what you mean :)

anyway :D thank you for reading and commenting! <333

S/he was saying that should do it (or should have done it). She thought it be good for him to get some experience and get some distance. She was saying that if Alfred DIDN'T sleep with someone else, he might end feeling like Arthur was a slut for sleeping around while Alfred himself had abstained from doing the same. But if Alfred slept around, too, then he can't logically resent Arthur for doing the same. (Heh, then again, resentment like that isn't logical, so I personally disagree, but that's what the anon above thought, anyway!)

Yeah, you summed it up much better than my hasty comment. (where I forgot to mention, oh yeah, that writer-anon is a really good writer) And yes, the last bit is kind of a weak argument, but I soooo wanted some Israel/America even though the author-anon won't write it, hehe.

*ships Israel/America regardless of fill, so there's my pre-set bias.*

Like anon below said, I am going to enjoy imagining America and Korea hanging out together like bros (I mean, Starcraft 2 just came out! Of course they're going to have marathon gaming sessions, sustained only by instant kimchi noodles, candy, and soda.)

Re: confused author!anon anonymous August 31 2010, 10:18:33 UTC
Oh good, I'm glad I understood; it's way too easy to misunderstand when I can't see anyone's faces. OTL Although I don't know if your argument is a weak one, actually! I know some people that would no longer feel the resentment you described once they'd done the same thing, actually, but I also know some that would would still feel resentful even after they'd done the same thing. :'D (Which would suck even worse to me personally, because I'd feel guilty for doing it AND feel like a hypocrite for still resenting another for doing what I did. Emotions aren't just complicated, I guess; they're kind of ironic, too!)

Wait, you ship Israel/America? I've only seen Israel in one fic ever, and I've never seen that ship done. Is there actual fic out there, or does it just not exist?

... Instant kimchi noodles. D: Of course that exists, especially in Korea, but instant noodles themselves are just ... Why. T_T Gamers have stronger stomachs than I do, I guess. I'm too weak for normal instant noodles, much less kimchi ones.

Although that does give me the horrifying image of America and Korea combining their power to create caffeinated instant noodles, whether or not they're kimchi-flavored. Those two are a terrifying combination, in my mind.

Re: confused author!anon anonymous August 31 2010, 13:46:43 UTC
I'm from the Philippines, where there's a growing Korean population, and all my siblings are ADDICTED to instant kimchi noodles. They buy crates of it at a time, and devour it in much shorter periods than I think possible. They're also all ferocious gamers, so the association suggested itself to me at once.

And it's not so much OC-Israel as just...Real-world America/Israel. America sticking up for Israel against the world, even when maybe they shouldn't. I don't want to get into whether Israel is in the right or America, it's just the whole close allies thing.

Israel was not created in order to disappear-Israel will endure and flourish. It is the child of hope and home of the brave. It can neither be broken by adversity nor demoralized by success. It carries the shield of democracy and it honors the sword of freedom.

We support the security of both Israel and her neighbors...." - President John F. Kennedy

Coffee-kimchi instant noodles. America and Korea would be JUST the combo to come up with that. Oh god, let the world tremble in fear.

first!anon: thank you for your comments! it makes sense now XD but yeah, there won't be America/Other Nation smut here.

Also thanks for the quote by JFK! It was really cool and it made me decide to make Israel a girl :) JFK is my fourth cousin =D

second!anon: thanks for your comments and the help in clarifying <3 "I've only seen Israel in one fic ever" Now you've seen Israel in TWO fics =D

both!anons: And part of the misunderstanding was my fault for the way I phrased the whole "not going to pull an England and go blah blah blah". I didn't mean him abstaining because he resents Iggy.

I meant it more like...well. As I said in the chapter. America has had sex five or less times (and that's assuming England was the fifth. he could even be the third or fourth) and I think after all this he's feeling a bit uncomfortable and after seeing how all this ended up, he's looking for a more stable platonic relationship. Like, obviously he does resent Iggy a bit, but what I'm thinking is after getting some distance, some answers, and some new friends without any romantic ulterior motives, the resentment will ease and he'll be able to be in a loving relationship with Iggy.

God, after your comments and mine, this is starting to remind me of "The Actuary Song" from "I Love You Because". Now after your conversation all I can picture is South Korea being the Diana to Alfred's Marcy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2BUoDjutGM
Marcy (Alfred) is the first one to talk.
Diana (Yong Soo) is the one that talks really fast.

:D

This is the Israli-shipping!anon, WOW that's awesome, you're related to JFK? SO COOL.

Hahaha, and I found another quote that would really worry Iggy.

"Israel has always been and must always be America's strongest ally."
George E. Pataki (3-time Governor of New York)

Oh, anon, you're breaking my heart here. T_T Even though I know things will eventually be okay, this is painfully realistic. Hell, these guys eventually getting together is slightly optimistic, but I know people who have somehow finally gotten together after similar tragic-but-silly jealousy games, so I can still believe it. It's going to be awhile before they can be around each other, though, and quite some time before they actually get together, much less sleep together. Unfortunately. OTL

Although this wasn't completely depressing, really, because I kind of sadistically enjoy the hilarious awkwardness of a meeting without boisterous!America and snarky!England. And with England too subdued to fight with France, and France too worried and unnerved to try to prod England into fighting or grope anyone? That's like 80% of the normal excess noise at any meeting, honestly. I mean, I guess South Korea would make some of the noise, but he's probably not even there. God, the eerie quiet and efficiency is enough to mess with even Germany's mind. @_@

Oh, and poor France; I know he knows this is not his fault, but he still must feel a little guilty, given that it's somewhat predictable that England would take his advice way too far. ... Even France didn't imagine it going this damn far, but still! I don't blame him at all, but he really shouldn't be surprised that his baby brother England is doing it wrong, when it comes to how England deals with his emotions and America.

Ah, and I'm glad America started worrying about England's experience and the skill of his other sex partners; way later, America's idealized sense of romanticism and Hollywood Twu Wuv will probably balance out some of his worries, but this is still going to be a problem for them until they're together (for a while, really!) and talk about it. God, the idea of these guys talking anything out is kind of depressing. Yet hilarious.

Good job, America; hanging out with someone completely different is probably a good idea. Especially if he (or she?) is not attracted to either of you at all, frankly. Complication-free friendship and some time and distance is just what they both need, I think.

I know it's not that kind of fic, but imagine America suddenly spending way more time with Israel in "real life" like this! Various Arab nations would be even more unhappy, and there would be crazy political ramifications, and things would be all unstable and shit. Luckily, they probably won't even find out about it or care in this fic. Hell, or they'll just be happy that someone, anyone, is helping America out of his creepily quiet funk! XD You know, I'm actually interested to see who else America spends some time with; France would be a horrible idea right now, but maybe Japan or Canada would be safe, unless they'd feel awkward and caught-in-the-middle? Or maybe he could hang out with random people; like, he could have awesome "we're loud, obnoxious little bros! :DDD" time with South Korea, or have awesome tourism/pyramid-exploring adventures while Egypt says nothing but "...Just go home and make up and make out already." It could be awesome! And hell, if you leave some or most of it to our imaginations, that's totally what I'll picture!

God only knows what England will be doing in the meantime; probably brooding all alone, ignoring even his fairies, unless someone drags him away from his depressing thoughts. OTL

Oh damn, I just read your note; if there's no smut, I may get down on my knees and beg for future!smut just for the resolution. I mean, though it pains me to admit it, writing present!fluff is way more necessary for the story and the emotional resolution the readers need, but smut-filled omake (even if it's romantic love-making instead of graphic smut!) afterward set in the future where things are okay between them would be really satisfying, too. It'd make me feel like, "Yeah, things were okay between them at the end of the story, but now I believe they'll actually be together in the future, too. <3"

Also, I'm a perv. But will love this story no matter what you do, seriously. ♥

And I had to edit for length! D:

AUTHOR!ANON LOVES YOU, TOO <3 anonymous August 31 2010, 14:33:57 UTC
Holy Shit. I just had to call my sister into the room and be like LOOK AT THIS COMMENT. because I had to share the sheer awesomeness of this comment with SOMEONE. I didn't let her read it though. Cause she hates the fact that I write fanfic so she certainly doesn't know that I write SMUTTY fanfic. CX

Anyway. Holy shit, anon, I love you. This is probably the most awesome comment I've ever gotten <3

Okay, so I hope you realize that if it wasn't for your review there would have been no more smut in this fic. I thought that in their present state of minds, they would be taking things slow and I was going to give this a pretty open ended last chapter that let you guys know that they get together but leave the rest to your imagination. I didn't think either of them would want to rush into sex. But I never even thought of the idea of an Omake =D that's perfect and I have tons of ideas now for both the ending and the omake! so thank you again, anon!

France seriously needs some love here <3 I feel bad because I promised people in my last FrUK fic that I would write them some fluffy FrUK because France got the pretty shitty end of the stick for almost the entire fic there, but here I am making him miserable again. I really do need to get around to writing that fluffy FrUK.

and LOL at my fic affecting real life relations between America and Israel XD I would laugh SO hard XD but yeah, I'm not gonna write everything about their separated time in detail. This fill will probably have two more chapters, plus the Omake. 1 for the separation, 1 for the final get together, and the omake for smut :) but I like you said, the idea of them talking everything out is really depressing and I'm a lazy anon so I've figured out how America is going to find out what happened without England telling him (because I can't see England really ADMITTING that he would play such pathetic games to anyone, least of all America). But I'll stop there because I don't wanna give away too many details ;D <3

Thanks so much for the comment! I really appreciate it, and you certainly gave me lots of ideas!! <3

First!anon here, from all the way back in the previous part, wanted to say that this part: "He wasn’t what Arthur wanted anyway so why try?

With that thought, he packed the rest of his belongings and with one last backward glance into his room, shut the door behind him before dropping his key card off at the front desk." made tears come into my eyes, and I wanted to cuddle America and wrap him in a blankie and feed him ice cream and cookies and hot chocolate and cream.

The thing about 'leaving the hotel' = 'it's final'? Completely and utterly, I get what you mean. Powerful symbology translating into actual thresholds.

Oh America, honey. *cuddles* On the other hand, I think the improved relations with other countries as a result of his distance may be good for him, REGARDLESS of what happens/what happened with England, and that he'll be overall in better shape and in better circumstances for the distance by the end of it. At least that's what I want to believe. And then, being a more emotionally healthy (not so focused on England, had social interactions that wasn't all being-obnoxious/tsundere-with-a-tsundere) person will mean better things for his relationship with England later.

*crosses fingers*

Lol, well I'm glad that you like where I'm going with this! I'm going to try and get part 12 up before I leave for college on Sunday :)

I'm also really glad you liked that part <3 out of the whole chapter that was one of the parts I was most proud of so it makes me happy that you noticed it! ^^

I think we should take America for a girls night. We can watch The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally and stuff (almost said Love Actually but that's a british movie and it'd probably make him sadder) and we'll get lots of ice cream and eat it right out of the carton <3
