Japan was surprised by Greece's self-restraint that day. The day's summit sessions seemed particularly tedious to Kiku, and though he expected Heracles to react to the boredom as he usually did, by groping Kiku under the table, Heracles kept his hands to himself. As the meeting adjourned for the day, Kiku found himself strangely discontent - this was what he'd wanted, after all.
During dinner in a small restaurant they were fond of, Kiku let his feet brush against Heracles's under the table. Heracles smiled but didn't reciprocate.
Following dinner, with the rest of the evening before them, Kiku felt sure that Heracles's restraint would slip - they always spent evenings after day-long meetings in bed. (For someone so indolent generally, Heracles had no shortage of energy when it came to marathon sex.) But Heracles proposed a walk through a park instead, and having Heracles's hand in his as they strolled, appreciating the warm evening, didn't quell Kiku's dissatisfaction.
When they got back to the hotel, Heracles didn't go for the bed as Kiku had hoped. Instead, he picked up a book and settled in on the couch to read.
In a display of uncharacteristic immodesty, Japan stripped off his suit in front of Greece. He could feel Heracles's eyes on him, but when he met them, Heracles did nothing but smile and return to his book.
Feeling obligated, now that he'd undressed for no explicable reason, Kiku went to shower, the day's uneasiness unabated.
