General Relativity (24/?) anonymous May 18 2010, 05:34:58 UTC
XXIV. The Apparent Incompatibility of the Law of Propagation of Light with the Principle of Relativity

Ludwig turned out to be a stern man in a cleanly pressed white dress shirt and slacks that seemed fair new; his hair was pulled back severely, and his blue eyes were calculating and worried. He shook Matthew’s hand, a touch over formal, and gave him a bemused smile when they met.

The other, Feliciano, had a wide and toothy grin, his hair erupting in random curls. His eyes crinkled so much from his smile that they were barely visible, but he radiated kindness and a bit of stupidity. Much like Mr. Jones, and Matthew liked him immediately.

“We just tried to eat lunch at the cafeteria,” said Feliciano, tone mournful despite his cheery smile. “But it was so awful, we had to stop and go out for something to eat. That’s why we’re late! I’m so sorry! You’re Matthew, aren’t you? Matthew, not Mattie or Matt. Did I get it wrong?”

“No, no, it’s fine,” Matthew mumbled, sticking his hands in his pockets with awkward surrender. He felt both too old and too young next to the pair, and wasn’t sure how to respond to the contrast.

Luckily, Mr. Jones took control of the conversation after introductions; he was a natural gab, and since it quickly appeared that Ludwig and Matthew were content to offer a ‘hmm’ here or there, both he and Feliciano chatted nonstop for the four of them. Sometimes Feliciano asked Matthew a question, and Matthew would answer, and he would get a clap of hands in delight.

Matthew surprised himself by having fun. He took them through the English and rhetoric buildings when they came to them, explaining the programs to the guests and an oddly fascinated Mr. Jones. Ludwig was a solemn but appreciative audience; Feliciano was either bedazzled or completely uninterested in what he had to say (but in a funny way). They eventually ended up at the theatre lobby, stealing some soda pop from the fridge in the backstage area and freeing a bag of chips from the drama department chair’s office. They ate on the set, and it was here that Matthew learned about Mr. Jones in graduate school: passionate, easily excited, prone to skipping his assignments because he’d “found something cooler.”

“So, not much has changed,” said Matthew.

Feliciano giggled, and even Ludwig’s mouth twitched at that. He pressed it still, as if worried to laugh, and then laid his fingers over Feliciano’s thigh with a comfortable, simple grace.

Something in Matthew’s brain froze.

And then it clicked into place.

And he pretended not to notice it at all, but he suddenly felt like one of those dwarfs, like something hot was condensing in his stomach and change came luminous.

So, I hope these installments are also all right… Thank you so much for hanging in there, guys. <3 Things are really starting to happen now. Next time, we see a return of Matthew’s libido, LOL.

Am now having a hell of a time deciding what new prompt I wanna grab and add to my pile. T_T There are so many good ones, but I told myself I wouldn’t do more than five WIPs… laksjdlksj. WHY SO MANY GOOD PROMPTS, ANONS. ♥

Hooray, the return of Matthew's libido!

(lawl)

These chapters were cute. And now Alfred is dragging him around to meet his friendss... Francis was right. :D

So how was Japan, authoranon? I forgot to ask after the end of Wired Differently (to be honest, my brain kind of short circuited and malfunctioned after that so uh...).

Thank you! ♥ And LOL, Francis is totally right (even if Alfred has no idea, ha ha). I've got to make it at least a little easier for Matthew when he finally makes up his mind, yanno.

Oh, Japan was awesome. I wish I was still there! D: I bought a ton of Hetalia stuff and doujinshi (my one weakness, argh), and I saw a lot of really brilliant shrines. I even got to dress up as a samurai in a fake ancient Edo village, and I ate fish stuck on a stick. Thank you for asking!

Whomg that sounds fantastic and extremely touristy. I have this flashback to that scene in anime where Alfred is freaking out in joy at the sight of a temple. xD I wish I could go! You sound like you had a lot of fun!

Can't wait for the next few updates then... even less than I've been able to wait for the past few. Must have Francis feeling smug. :3

Anon you are the love of my life and the wind beneath my wings and have made my week by updating.

Can I talk about how I read this fic obsessively because I love America just as much as Canada does? Oh my god, his descriptions of him, his love for him--you can just see and feel America's character through Canada and that is such a beautiful thing. Oh my god, I just want to pick up your America and hug him then stay in his arms forever while I ravish him in the grass and he can push me off and laugh awkwardly at me.

I would also do the same for Canada.

Also Germany and Italy are beautiful in this, they made me smile. Anon I love you. Please ravish me in the grass and have my first born child.

♥ ♥ ♥

Thank you so much for the feedback - you're too nice. :D I love you, too~. And I admit, much of Canada's adoration of America probably stems from my own (which admittedly came out of nowhere a while back).

Germany and Italy. So cute. X3 I couldn't resist, I'm a terrible person.

Of course we can make babies together! We can populate an entire island! I will be gentle and feed you Czech poetry, which is always gorgeous.

Holy crap, anon, you've been busy lately. N-not that I'm complaining... ♥

I just.. I just love this. All of this. Matthew, Alfred, Francis, the odd-screen Arthur; and especially Kiku and Ludwig, who are wonderfully understated.

Feliciano asked Matthew which name he preferred! As someone with an easily contractable name, I really appreciated that; and it's a nice little character moment - Feliciano might be a little air-headed, but he's nice. Really, really nice.

Your Alfred is reminding me how much I love science, how awesome it is. (tl;dr I had a messy break-up with chemistry half-way through my third year, and jumped into bed with religious studies. |D) His enthusiasm rolls right off the screen, about anything and everything and not just his narrow(?) speciality. It's just so much fun. And flicking the sun/creamer package around while teaching? Adorable.

I kind of want to know the story behind that plane Ludwig built...

Uwaaah, thank you so much for your sweet comments~ ♥

Don't we all have messy breakups with chem in college? >.>;; (Rather, I tried to be friends, and chemistry BIT ME.) But I did discover a love of physics even if I fail utterly at it. It's a bit like poetry. Er. In that it's not.

Thank you so much for commenting! And as for the airplane...

Well, you'll see later. ;)

Awesome...awesome...so much awesome. Seriously there are only two writers on this meme that can make he say without hesitation that I would always read Can/Am/Can as long as they were writing it...and you are one of them.

I still love how lyrical the writing is in this one I love how you manage to find a different rythmn for each of your stories.

Oh Matthew you're so hopeless...how can you be so detail oriented and yet miss the most obvious Alfred-is-crushing-on-you-though-he-may-be-too-dense-to-realize-it-fully-yet tell in the whole thing. That being the fact that when he was introduced to Feli that Feli knew that he was Matthew. Not Matt or Mattie or some other nickname...but Matthew. Dude...wake up...that means he's been talking to them...about you. YOU! And it was important to him to make sure they addressed you as you wish to be addressed! Gar...he's going to make me want to smack him upside the head a few more times before he catches on isn't he?

LOVE THIS FILL AND I LOVE YOU.

I admit to being more then a little curious as to what's in contention on that pile... ;-)

*blush* ♥ I'm so glad you're liking it. Thank you so, so much for the awesome comment. Huge grin on my face, thanks to you.

alksjldsk. I AM SO GLAD YOU CAUGHT THE NAME THING. XD I didn't know if it was too subtle or not... Yes, he's totally been talking about you, Matthew! (He just doesn't realize how much. Er.) You will definitely want to smack Matthew a few more times, but thankfully the thickest parts are almost over. XD AND THEN HE GETS CLEVER~.

There are just far too many awesome prompts. =_= The anons here are brilliant, but it makes it really hard to choose, LOL. Right now, I've narrowed it down to another Canada/America AU, a China/America romantic comedy, sexy hot lesbian North America, comatose!America, America and Poland taking over the world (rly), and Canada/America camping with lumber. Some of them would be longer than others, so I'm still debating... urgh...

And now I have this image of Alfred on their speaker phone babbling on and on and on about Matthew like they should know him already and really they had no clue until after a few of these phone calls. I can see them just looking at each other knowingly. Oh Alfred...so obvious to everyone then you.

The thought of you do China/America makes me literally flail. But whatever you choose I know it'll be awesome! ;-)
