England could remember tyring to teach America to was one of most difficult challenges he had had ever faced. And it was not for the boys lack of interest. No, America had always been quite eager to learn to read and write, and was so excited on the day England began to teach him.

But as hard as he might, America just seemed to have some difficulty with mastering the read and written word. It was a rather strange, England's colony had no trouble when came to memorizing the alphabet and numbers. In fact England found himself laughing every time the bright eyed child would sing them to him. The problems began when came to forming words and writing them down.

England first noticed it when America would write words with a lower case 'b' or 'd'. For instance the word bad, the word would be written as 'dab'. The B and D were often confused for one another, and at first it kind of cute. But the problems only seemed to precise if not worsen. America would have trouble with the phonics, read very slowly, and his penmanship was messy and hard to decipher.

There were times when it flustered England to no end, and times where he began to wounder if America was just slow. However, when these thoughts would enter his mind America would do something to prove just how intelligent he was. Like one morning he came down stairs to find America play with his toy soldiers, and he had arranged there ranks to match the battle plans on the walls on England's study. The Empire was sure his colony had only been his once the day before, and only for a few minutes. Or how America could be told something once and he could recite verbatim. In fact the boy became somewhat a fount of random facts and information, and could comprehend things that were far beyond his years. But he still had trouble with reading and writing. Though, America never seemed to want to give up on it, and would work at it with a kind steadfast determination . And if America was unwilling to give up on it then neither was England. Thus as grew America began to read better, almost like he had found way to conpansite. Though by the time by the time broke off form England and became the Untied States of America, he was still having trouble spelling and writing the most smiplest of things quickly.

Years when by with England not thinking much on the matter, only seeing his once every so often colony for offciel business. But as their nations began to have closer ties once again, did England take notice of America's writing skills. They improved yes, but sometimes when going over notes that America had written, England would take note of a missing word or two in a sentences or missed spelled word. Or when America would read his notes aloud he would sometimes skip over a whole paragraph and have to back track and start over. It was almost like the America nation's mind was moving to fact for his hands and eyes to keep up. Which made scent America as a full fledg nation acted like an overly engergetic puppy most days, and other Nations would laugh or call him stuipd when he did things like that.

But nerve England for he was there when America was struggling to the read the most simplest of lines, and he was there when America had his first book by himself a load. And it was he, who witnessed America's triumpahnt smile when he did so.

The word Dyslexia, never crossed his mind until one evening during World War Two...

England had needed to discus something with America, and had found said American in his temporary offices in London. His glasses perched on the tip of his nose, pouring over note battle plans and war briefs. A red wax pencil was in hand, and he underlining every line on page. England glaceed at the documents on the his desk and found that had received a similar treatment. So engrossed in his task at America had not even taken notice of England's presents in the room. Until England cleared his throat, making the American jump.

"Oh, England what brings you here this late? Shouldn't old men like you be in bed by now?" he said with a sheepish smile on his face.

England regarded him coolly for a moment before decided to let the old man comment slid. Instead he settle for sighing, "I needed to ask you something, but I have forgotten now."

He paused for a moment just long enough for America to a give a quite 'o' and turn his attention back to the red lined document in his hand.
England watched him read and underline a hole anther page before he had to ask , "America just what are you doing to those documents?"

America looked up him tucking the wax pencil behind an ear, "Oh, just underlining thing. It actually keeps focus on what I'm reading, to make sure I don't skip any lines. It keeps my Dyslexia in check."

England blinked a few times, Dyslexia, he felt like he should know the word but he didn't know..."Dyslexia? America just what are you talking about?"

"Oh, um well," America chuckled weekly before scratching at the base of his his neck.

"You remember how hard it was teaching me to read and write, and how I still have hard time with it sometimes... "

England nodded in agreement as America babbled on, "Well, F.D.R, thought there was something more wrong so he had me tested by a whole bunch of shrinks...And well, they said I'm Dyslexic."

"And that would mean that what?" England just a little confused.

"Yeah, it's mean that, that, well it's kind hard to explain, I have trouble read and writing and keep things strait, but I'm not stupid. It's what they call a learning disability something I just got to live with, and back when you where teach who to read we did know things like that could exist."

"So," England said beginning to catch on, "all that time and even now when you were struggling..."

"It was because of Dyslexia, its just something that people are born with we can't help it we learn to cope." At that America shot his old mentor a grin, "And hell England, I've been coping with it long before some quack came up with a fancy word for it."

England smirked and crossed the room so that he was stand beside him placing a hand on the American's shoulder, "That you have America, America that you have."

AN: I saw this and to had fill, being a Dyslexic myself and have to grow up dealing with. This op hit close to home, hope you like.
