"It's alright!" Alfred laughed again, brushing it off as if she hadn't just insulted him so openly. "We are kind of touchy. Kiku always thought it was odd." he leaned back on the balls of his feet, hands snaking into his jacket pockets as he just continued smiling softly to her.
She decides right then that she wants to get to know him. It's a very random, odd thought, but she wants to do this because, perhaps, Kiku would be proud of her if she became more open, if she wasn't so shy around these stranger nations. He never understood why she was, especially when she had been raised by Spain and the dutch countries.
"Would you like some tea, Alfred?" she doesn't even call him "Mr." or use the honorifics like Kiku had taught her too. It felt odd on her tongue, as if she had meant to say something else, but he didn't seem to notice.
"Yeah, okay~" he nodded and she stepped back, bowing her head slightly and watching him out of the corner of her eye when he moved past her, heading toward the kotatsu, walking so surely that Taiwan was positive that the other nation had been here plenty of times before. That or he just didn't care what he was doing.
She quickly moved into the kitchen, filled a kettle and placing it on the stove, before moving back into the main room and sitting across from him. He was leaned back, hands pressed against the floor, legs underneath the kotatsu, and just peering around the room with curious eyes. She took this moment to study him, the way his eyes were round and almost child like as he looked about, the way he seemed so young and yet his jaw was strong, firm, like that of a man's. She could see the muscles beneath his simple white shirt, ones that strained when he shifted or moved, and she was curious to know how he looked without that shirt.
She felt a familiar heat rise up from her neck to her cheeks at that thought alone and she quickly glanced away, toying with her hands anxiously and hoping that he hadn't felt her staring at him.
But perhaps he would be understanding, perhaps he knew that she hadn't had much exposure to European nations after she had come to Kiku's house.
"Are you visiting Kiku too?" Alfred asked after a moment, shifting his attention back onto her and leaning forward, letting his arms settle on the table. She nodded, also looking back at him, meeting his gaze, a bold move in her opinion.
"I try to visit him at least once a week," she states. "I like to help around the house when I can." she doesn't want to say it was because she was still so attatched to him, that she was selfish and visited Kiku because she just wanted to see him, that she still hadn't let go...
"Kiku's lucky to have a sister like you, then," an easy grin broke across Alfred's face and she felt those strange wings flutter again in the pit of her stomach, beating back that small bubble of jealousy. "I'd kill to have someone like you around. Toris, or.. err... Lithuania was at my house for a bit and he was awesome. He was always cooking my meals and helping me around the house and..."
She had stopped listening to him. Instead she was focusing on his soft, full lips, the way they moved and formed around the words, the way they quirk up or down as he spoke, the way his eyes would shine with amusement or distant memories as he told his little tale. He was so alive, so animated, it was odd to her. Compared to Alfred, Kiku was always so blank, so calm, never allowing much emotion to show, even when he spoke.
She wonders if Kiku lets this facade slip when he's around Alfred, if he laughs and smiles right along with Alfred, and she feels that bubble grow again.
She hates that she's so jealous of this foreigner.
"I would be glad to come over and help you any time you need," Taiwan says after his lips had stilled and then she smiles at him, a polite sort of smile.
"Really?" he laughs, running a hand through his hair. "Aw, I couldn't let you do that, though, Tai-" she just blinks at the nickname but doesn't say anything against it, she finds it cute"-because you would be my guest!"
"But I would insist,"she nodded firmly,"because I don't mind to help, really. I'm good with doing things around the house."
