Fifteen minutes before the British Isle Brothers (and one sister) arrived, Canada stepped into America’s house, trying his hardest not to feel guilty.

The sound of coughing from upstairs did little to make him feel better about his actions.

With a slightly worried frown, Canada hurried up the stairs and into America’s room, wasting no time in locating his brother-nation. He paused when he found him, though. America was curled up in his blankets, pale and obviously miserable. Fortunately, he’d stopped coughing.

“…America?” Canada asked, biting his lip in poorly-suppressed concern. “You all right there?”

“Mm, Canadia?” America asked, groggily opening one eye. “What’re you doing here? I didn’t hear you come in…”

“The door was unlocked and I heard that you weren’t doing so great,” Canada said, and it wasn’t really a lie, per-say. “So I went inside. You okay?”

“’ll be fine.” America waved him off. “Any other reason you dropped by?”

Canada swallowed nervously. He was grateful that America wasn’t all that great at reading the atmosphere right then, because otherwise it’d be easy to see that Canada was worried about something or another. “N-No reason. Um. Do you want me to get you anything? You look really pale.”

“Eh, no, ‘m good,” America mumbled, laying his head back down against the pillow. “Thanks for the concern, though.”

“No problem, eh?” Canada said, failing to produce a convincing smile. “Are you… sure you don’t need anything? No water or anything?”

“Mm, actually water sounds pretty fantastic,” America admitted.

“I’ll get you some, then,” Canada said quickly, immediately hurrying out of the room and into the kitchen. If America noticed anything odd, he didn’t say anything, because when Canada returned with the water, he accepted it without a second thought.

“Tastes kinda funny,” America mumbled after a few sips, but drank the rest without another word.

Canada watched in thinly concealed horror as America drank it, and immediately started to get drowsy. By the time he’d fallen asleep, Canada had worked himself into a nervous fit.

However, right then, the British Isles Siblings walked into the house. They practically stormed up the stairs, as loudly as they dared-excepting Wales, who was on his part of the mission, and the other one of their party, Australia, who was still out cold in the backseat-and entered the room without a second thought.

Scotland was the first to greet Canada. He slapped the shy nation on the back and grinned at him. “Y’ did good, mate. Yer job’s done.”

“What have I done…?” Canada asked, and his expression was a mixture of fear and guilt.

Scotland found he didn’t have the heart to ignore the other nation’s distress. “Well, if it makes yeh feel better, we’ll tell ‘im that you’d already left before we came to get you, so it sounds like you didn’t have a part in this at all.”

“No,” Canada interjected. “That’s-that’s dishonest. I can’t let you do that.”

“Alrighty, then,” Scotland said brightly. “Well, Ireland here told me that you might like to come along, make sure that we don’t get too hasty in punishin’ the lad. You up for it?”

“I-” Canada started to object, but he saw his brother-nation start to stir, wincing as if in pain, and immediately nodded. “Yeah. Anything to make sure he’s okay. He’s-he’s sick right now.”

“Is ‘e, now?” Scotland asked, raising an eyebrow. “Well, I s’posse it just makes our job easier, then. What better way to test a man than through how well he does in challenges when he’s ill, too?”

Canada flinched as if he’d been slapped. “But-but if he objects, or if he gets hurt…”

“Then he withdraws his right to date our brother, an’ we’ll return him safe an’ sound, ye have my word,” Scotland agreed, holding a hand out.

Canada didn’t take it. “And if he succeeds in all five of the challenges?”

“Then…” Scotland sighed. “I suppose we can’t keep him from England. We’ll bring him back without a fight.” He held out his hand again. “Deal?”

“…Deal,” Canada hesitantly agreed, shaking Scotland's hand with as much enthusiasm as a funeral marcher.

Oh, rilly..Be interesting if Scotland keeps his word..(And I saw Brave so I'm all agiggle over love challenges now hur hur hur) I'd really like to see some confessions coming out to England over this somewhat silly conspiracy.

(I was searching for Hima's thoughts on portraying the British Isles family and there's one sketch of a face of possible Scotland I think. He looked a bit like a scruffier Australia with more hair. If he does not have a giant claymore I shall be disappointed.)

Just stumbled upon this, and it seems very interesting. Rather foreboding for America after this last part, though. I like Japan's reaction at the beginning, and Canada's reluctance throughout so far. Poor America, I am really feelings sorry for him. There's not going to be anything good in store, I've no doubt. I wouldn't be surprised of England tried to come to see him anyway. And, I an wondering where they are going to take him.

I am enjoying this, Authornon, and I am looking forward to reading what comes next.

I cannot wait for the fallout from all this, especially if Arthur doesn't think it is a big deal. And can I just say I am praying this is one of the few, I am thinking maybe even the only fic, fics where Alfred actually gets mad at Matthew for good reason? Also, since they are countries, will the fact that America is a honking big superpower nation be in play? Not even just militarily, but stuff like, I dunno, tourism and economics and overall attitudes towards the UK nations, the Commonwealth nations, etc?
