That's exactly what I was thinking about before I met him... "So...what made you decide to become a prostitute?" Alfred said.
Arthur rested his head on his hand. "I was 16, homeless, had no car, and was completely broke. Some bloke saw me on the street, took me for a hooker, showed me a wad of bills in his pocket, and thus my new lifestyle was born."
"You never thought of getting a new job? Like at a store or some place until you could afford a car or apartment?"
"Honestly, I was waiting until I met someone worth while. Believe it or not, it's lonely. They fuck me and want me out of their sight by morning." Arthur said, looking down.
Alfred just ate, not knowing what to say without sounding stupid.
"Well that's my life story!" Arthur laughed. "It's pitiful, isn't it?"
"It's not pitiful at all!!" Alfred blurted out, attracting a few stares.
"Alfred?"
He stood up. "You just needed something to spice up your life right?! There's nothing wrong with that!" he said.
Arthur laughed. "Why? Do you think your life is boring, too?"
Alfred realized he was standing and sat down, embarrassed. "Yeah. I'm a single, 23 years old and I'm trapped in a cubicle all day. My life is...was very boring."
"Was?"
"Yeah. Until I decided to take you to my apartment two nights ago."
Arthur blushed all the way up to his ears. "You're way too sweet for someone who hires a prostitute."
They ate in comfortable silence. Alfred paid, causing Arthur to fuss over making him do so much for him.
"So, you still think of me as just a customer?" Alfred said as they walked down the sidewalk together.
Arthur blinked. "What?"
"You said I was too sweet for someone who hires a prostitute. You still think of me as just a customer?" He said it as if he was about to cry. Arthur found it cute.
Embarrassed, he stared at the ground while he spoke. "No, you've done too much for me already to just be a customer."
Alfred grinned, keeping himself from fist pumping. Arthur turned to him. "I earned enough this week to go shopping, so I think I'll go do that now."
Alfred's smile faded into a pout. "Aw, okay."
"Thank you, Alfred," he said. He turned but stopped and turned back around to place a small peck on Alfred's cheek. He was blushing again and waved before running in the opposite direction.
Alfred giggled to himself, not caring how stupid he looked. He found his car and giddily drove back to his apartment, this time not searching the streets for anyone.
When he walked back inside his apartment, he noticed the closet door cracked a bit.
He'd forgotten to get his jacket back from Arthur. That, or Arthur kept it on purpose.
