HOW DID YOU KNOW MY WEAKNESS FOR MANIPULATIVE!AMERICA, AUTHORANON?? I fucking love you like Romeo loves Juliet. I want your babies. NOW
I loved this beyond what I expected of the prompt. I like Arthur's indignation and old-fashioned views, his conflict between feeling proud and curious (because he admires power) and outraged that he's been displaced and declared obsolete. Mesianic America was also very intriguing, whether he really ended up believing it or is just a front.
Alfred fancies himself a modern-day Jesus, but Arthur would like it to be known that he was around when Jesus was just starting to toddle around Jerusalem, and Alfred...
LOL I love when this comes up, when nations older than dirt remind youngsters they were around "before Jesus" xDDDDD
Arthur would have more respect for him if he just sat up and admitted he'd been manipulating the world since nineteen-fucking-fourteen (what sort of unnatural country came out of a war with a booming economy?) instead of fooling himself.
probably my favourite line. Who indeed? i think this was the first instance in history this happened. It makes me wonder what the RL governments reactions were (thou Arthur does protest too much, seeing how being his closest ally permitted him to walk away from both World Wars far better and richer than any other contestant appart from America himselfXD)
Instead of an empire, he's a superpower; instead of naval fleets, he has marines; instead of colonies, he has countries under his thumb that he controls with debts and disapproval.
How did you know i wanted to read this? Not only the change of who's in power, but also the nature of national power itself. Awesome, anon
The last line was incredibly wonderful as well. Very British, he protests and acts all stiff on principle, but is actually taking the best seat to watch the playXD (of course he would, he's not gonna get hurt during itXD. It's amusing to read the unconscious undercurent of security England gives off here, not once does he wonder about what will happen to himself in this changing situation).

oh wow! i'm all of a flutter that you enjoyed it so much - i was really anxious when i posted that i'd lost my head and rambled on and on, so just \o/!
america is like some miracle child that just cannot be beaten down. it's beyond me. (oh, arthur is just an old hypocrite~ who cannot organise his thoughts properly apparently /shot.)
thank you for prompting something so awesome; i was scrolling past and just couldn't resist. :D
