(I rattled off something quick; sorry for the shortness).
He has his head in her lap and her fingers in his coarse tangled hair feel marvelous. Perhaps he would purr if he could muster up the energy or inclination to do so. She runs her fingers through his hair over and over, as if attempting to smooth out the rough strands.
“Don’t bother,” he mumbles to her. “Tried it too many times.”
She laughs, softly, and she continues doing so anyways. Her fingers brush across his ears, scratching right behind them at just the right pressure.
“Mm…”
She could ask him for the world right now and he’d give it to her. Just as long as she didn’t stop for another eternity or so. Somewhere, he could hear something clanging. Bells?
“Open your mouth,” she tells him.
He obeys and feels her fingers press a square of chocolate upon his tongue, as if it were a Eucharist wafer. His mouth shuts and he feels the glorious dark, sweet bitterness spread in a slow, inexorable tide. Chocolate. The sun on his face. The warm cushion of her lap. Her fingers tangled in his hair.
