Russia/Latvia angst (2/3)

Latvia looks so depressed after losing the bet that Russia decides to make an exception and allow Latvian food on his birthday. He also thought a lot about what he should get Latvia for his birthday. Estonia got him books, how boring. None of the others thought about fitting presents as much as Russia. Latvia's eyes bulges a bit when he unwraps the large gift.
“T-thanks?” Latvia says and Russia isn't the slightest surprised he is a bit worried. Latvia looks very small and confused next to his new sniper riffle.
Russia himself has gotten the most bizarre things from Belarus along the years and at this point he wouldn't even blink if she wrapped up the head of a real or imagined rival for Christmas. He makes a mental note that he needs to make sure Latvia gets more practice dealing with things like that too.
“That was a very odd gift,” Lithuania says without any malice.
“I remembered how much damage Finland who is also very small could do with it,” Russia explains. “I will teach you to shoot properly later.”
“Oh,” Latvia says and his face is filled with mixed emotions. Russia hopes he at least considers to shoot him. That would be the healthy reaction.
And the sane reaction would be to not do it. Latvia can't bring down the Soviet Union with one single riffle.
Parties makes Russia happy and he leaves Latvia alone despite that he really would like to pet his soft hair a bit.
When Russia and Latvia are alone Latvia is so fascinated by his gift that he even forgets to tremble. Russia is very proud to notice that Latvia read the handbook he got from start to cover.
“Fascist officers used to be the most important targets. But now when we already killed them you must decide upon new targets. Imagine the faces of those you want to kill when you practice.”
Latvia looks nervously at Russia. Doesn't he realize that Russia knows very well whose face Latvia will see on the practice target? Russia smiles brightly at him to signal that he doesn't care. Latvia shivers. He misses his shoots so badly that Russia winces and slaps him over the head.
“Ukraine can do better than that,” he says. His oldest sister hates weapons. Belarus on the other hand is close to a genius on this. When Russia saw her take down one soldier after another during the war without changing her expression once he almost thought marrying her wouldn't be that bad. He would have made Belarus hold the lesson if he didn't know well enough that she had no patience whatsoever for incompetence. Or if he didn't know better than to let Belarus close to a love rival with a loaded weapon.
Latvia blushes in either embarrassment or anger and eventually gets better.
