This was too delicious to pass up... Ah... I hope you don't mind a second fill
"Oh, say can you see..."
The thick smoke was blinding. Tears of hot ashes raining down upon the city. As frightened New Yorkers could do nothing but watch...
"By the dawn's early light..."
At 6:00 AM, it started. Aboard two unwitting flights, a plan began to unfold. A plan to rock the world, and bring arguably the strongest superpower to his very knees.
At 8:46 AM, the first plane crashed.
"What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming...?"
It had been the tallest tower to date. He could distinctly remember the call, made at midnight of course. That annoying voice screeching loudly into his ear, so excited... so proud.
"I built the tallest building, Iggy!"
"And you couldn't tell me this later?"
"What are you talking about? It's only 7 PM here!"
"There's a time difference, you prat!"
"Oh, yeah... But come on, no amount of beauty sleep will ever help you anyways!"
"Why you-!"
"You should come see it! I'm going to make a twin, wouldn't that be awesome? It would be beautiful during sunset, dontcha think?"
"Yes. Yes. Whatever."
"I made the tallest tower, Iggy! Aren't you proud of me?"
"Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight..."
Firefighters raced up the floors as everyone rushed out. Desperate to find survivors, desperate to find somebody to save. The building was burning, coming down all around. Yet still they pushed forth. Through the dust and debris, through the infernos of fire.
Some of them didn't come back out.
"O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming..."

1972- The WTC became the tallest building in the world. Ending the Empire building's reign.
The building bellied out in flames- Not an exact quote but close enough to an eyewitness who filmed the event
"Oh God... they were in the dust... we were breathing them in... our co-workers... our friends... they were in the dust..."- I went to a 9/11 museum/memorial and I remember distinctly reading this quote. It's not accurate but the meaning is still the same
"Lady, there's two of us in this office. We're not ready to die, but it's getting really bad."
"I understand sir. We're trying to get all the apparatuses there."
"Oh, please hurry."- A live phone call to 911. A man trapped on the 105th floor.
"Oh, say can you see..."

He watched.
The entire world watched.
People running. People screaming. People dying.
He watched.

"And the rocket's red glare..."
A second plane crashed.
The building bellied out in flames. Still trapped in the hellfire, some leaped from their windows.
There was no hope either way.
"The bombs bursting in air..."
A river of smoke crawled down the length of the tower. Pillows of
ashes and dust rising into the air. Fallen clouds from heaven.
The tower collapsed.
"Oh God... they were in the dust... we were breathing them in...
our co-workers... our friends... they were in the dust..."
In the aftermath that followed, one man kneeled. As people rushed
about him, crying, screaming, dying... He sat frozen in his place.
His children. Oh god. His children.
There were mothers there.
There were fathers there.
Sons, daughters. Brothers, sisters.
They were his children.
"Lady, there's two of us in this office. We're not ready to die, but it's getting really bad."
"I understand sir. We're trying to get all the apparatuses there."
"Oh, please hurry."
And now they were gone.
"Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there...
England cradled America in his arms. Clutching him close to his chest as the boy trembled in his warm embrace. A fragile leaf shaking in the wind.
Everything will be alright.
He carded his hand through that wheat-gold hair. Rubbing light circles unto that broad back.
You're still here.
Wrapped around each other. Holding. Just holding.
And I'm with you
“O! Say does that star spangled banner yet wave…”
America let out a shaky sob. Finally, after hours of shock. After long minutes of still silence.
America cried. Broke down and cried. Weeping bitter tears on England's shoulder.
“O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”
"My brave, baby boy."
Please let everything be alright
