( Christmas Reveals )
“Quantum physics?” said Kiku, in the sort of tone someone used when trying to be polite about a grave mistake. It was the kind of tone Matthew had heard from Kiku quite a bit throughout their childhood.
“I know, I know.” He wasn’t going to explain himself. Absolutely not. “But it’s good to get some variety, eh?”
“Yes, I suppose. And Mr. Jones is an excellent teacher.”
“Sure.” Matthew kept his gaze lowered onto the book in his lap, trying to focus on names that weren’t quite so dangerous, or appealing. “He’s… different.”
“Perhaps it’s the mark of genius.” Kiku pursed his lips at Matthew’s syllabus and then set it neatly on their shared computer desk, correctly assuming that if it made it to Matthew’s side of the dorm room, it may never see daylight again. It wasn’t that Matthew was messy; absentminded, perhaps, was a better word for it. “I thought you enjoyed his class last year?”
Too much. Far too much. He was insane. “It wasn’t bad,” said Matthew.
Kiku’s dark eyes flickered toward him and then away. “I see,” he murmured, a tiny smile curving his lips. He set his fingers to the keyboard of his laptop and typed a few things; he was the kind of person who made obsessive lists, like Matthew, which was why they got along perfectly.
Matthew just wished he wasn’t so perceptive. “Oh shut up.”
“I didn’t say anything.”
“You were thinking it. You’ve got that o ho face.”
“I simply read the atmosphere.”
Matthew groaned and buried his face in his pillow, dumping his book onto the floor. “If you can read it that easy, then m’doomed.”
“If it makes you feel better,” Kiku told him solemnly, “I’m fairly sure he’s receptive to men. He once told the Astronomy Club that if all aliens looked like The Doctor, he’d be first in line to have interspecies relations.”
“He did not say that.”
“He did.”
That-
That did not make Matthew feel better.
