Matthew stays at the table and listens and panics as they eat, but doesn’t learn anything except that the tall guy is ‘Sammy’ and that the guy in the trench coat, ‘Cas’, has never had pie. He even tries to gaze them, to no effect. Probably Americans.
Halfway through Cas’ slice of pie, his rational mind pushes away his thoughts of oh god are they going to tell everyone and throttles him again.
They think that Arthur is a witch who made a huge polar bear appear out of nowhere. Which is all true, but not the worst secret they could have found out. He relaxes a little. Who the hell actually believes in witches anyway? His common sense continues, but Matthew tunes it out because if he’d listened to half the things it said, he’d be insane by now.
When they leave, the sun is just starting to set and he knows that Al’s going to bitch at him about how he nearly starved to dead when he gets back, but Matthew follows and waits until they get into their car, and makes a mental note of the license plate. Not that he thinks he’ll need it, because the car is pretty one-of-a-kind.
After they pull out, he finally lets his invisibility slip. Camping in an RV, trying to find and fix Kuma-whatever before three superstitious bounty hunters can kill him and turn his pelt into a coat.
Yes, this was even worse than last year’s ‘family bonding time’. At least their bosses had bailed them out that time.

for being your first fanfic, it's very well done! you've captured all of their voices perfectly, and i enjoy your overall style. i eagerly await more from you, here and hopefully in future fills.
