Sadiq returned to his quarters after the sun had been at rest for a few hours, angry and frustrated from his day’s work. Slightly disappointed that his room was empty, he began tossing garments onto the floor until he saw the little slip of paper on his favorite silk cushion. Sadiq bent over to retrieve it and read it.
Sadiq- I’ll be back before long, but it’s only fair that you dress up, too. I left something hanging on the mirror for you.
--Gupta
Sadiq turned to face his overly large mirror to see a mask hanging by a golden ribbon. It was obviously one of his own, but feathers had been pasted to the outer edges and something resembling a beak had been added to the nose. He grinned in spite of his previous bad mood, both pleasantly surprised and delighted at Gupta’s participation in Sadiq’s game of seduction. Perhaps the Egyptian had been eating more aphrodisiacs than Sadiq previously assumed.
He stepped over to the wash basin that he kept near the mirror in order to remove the lines and dirt from around his face and neck, quickly changed into a pair of soft trousers and an intricately embroidered shirt, and replaced his faded and dusty mask with the newly decorated one. Reclining on his bed against the headboard, Sadiq wondered how long he would have to wait before his bedtime story.
He received the answer to his question about five minutes later as he heard the latch on his door being quietly lifted. Sadiq inclined his head near the door to watch Gupta walk over to the bed, clothed only in the thick linen fabric that Sadiq had put into the box. He had a hard time seeing the Egyptian without his head covering, although the small horns and sun disk now atop his dark, thick hair were much more attractive.
“What a sexy Hathor you make,” Sadiq grinned. “You aren’t a bad Horus yourself.” He paused at the edge of the bed. “Do the feathers irritate you?”
“Doesn’t matter,” Sadiq said tersely, quickly pulling the Egyptian onto the bed by his forearm. Sadiq quickly scanned the man’s frame, noting the golden jewelry on his upper biceps and wrists, and a bangle or two on each ankle. “As long as I can see you.” Gupta lay down, careful to keep a slight distance between himself and the Turk. He could already tell by Sadiq’s voice that the man wouldn’t be able to keep his hands to himself for very long.
After a moment of silence, which was most uncomfortable for Gupta, who could feel Sadiq’s eyes roaming all over him, he swallowed and said: “You did good research.”
Sadiq’s eyebrows lowered over the edge of the mask before he croaked out “What?”
“The udju. It’s Hathor’s color.”
“Oh,” Sadiq sat up a little straighter. “Yeah. I knew that. She’s the goddess of love and joy.” He reached a hand out to Gupta’s face and ran his fingers along his jaw. “Reminds me of you.”
“And Horus,” Gupta reached for the stack of papers that he had left on the bed, “was the war god, god of the sky, and the savior of Egypt.” He lifted his chin to look Sadiq directly in the eyes, causing the man to visibly shiver. “It didn’t surprise me that you picked this story.” Sadiq grinned again, his bright white teeth matching the hue of his mask.
“I just wanted an excuse to see you in make-up.” He traced a finger around Gupta’s temple, where the kohl and udju ended. “The green brings out the gold of your eyes.” Sadiq’s hand found its way down to Gupta’s jaw again, and he pulled the man towards him, narrowing the distance between them for a chaste kiss.
Pulling away, Gupta cleared his throat. “Are you going to let me read this to you or not?” Sadiq grumbled something unintelligible but reclined back on the cushions, folding his arms behind his head.
“Thank you,” Gupta adjusted his position and began to leaf through the pages of the story.
