Yet England had gone, that was a fact that was beginning to settle into his bones no matter how much he hated to acknowledge it. England was gone and it left America feeling…slightly indignant. How dare he get captured without appealing for a hero like him! He had even been told to stay back! Yet, even worse than that, how dare some weird, lanky looking man have the nerve to intrude into his house and steal England while he was his guest! Oh he was going to pulverise him when he found that black-caped man! He would show him a thing or two!

“America,” Finland’s voice shook him from his increasingly violent thoughts. “I’ve set some cookies down but for now all we can do is wait for one to show up.”

America’s face fell. He had thought that they could leap into action like superheroes or something. He was never a very patient person, and this waiting game did not sound particularly fun.

“We should pack in the meantime,” Canada rose to his feet. Sometimes it was tiring knowing America too well, knowing that he would have to do something to keep America from thinking of something else instead of waiting, yet he could not blame him for it.

England had disappeared, something that Canada was slowly beginning to come to terms with, and it was an eerie thought. When he tried to imagine never seeing England again, his thoughts always brought him to fresh lakes and snowy mountain peaks as if fleeing from that terrible imagine. So, no, he could not blame America for being so averse to waiting. Waiting meant thinking after all, and what kind of thoughts America harboured, he did not even want to know.

They packed. Anything anyone might need, they stuffed into four large rucksacks. Food, water, camping equipment, cooking utensils, rope, a first aid kit, and weapons. Canada hoped they would not have to use that last one as he watched America load two twin revolvers.

“Here he is!” Finland’s excited cry drew them back into the study.

“Huh, where?” America stopped at the doorway, staring it where Finland was talking to a patch of thin air. It was like seeing England with his fairy friends all over again.

“Hey there, little brownie, I’ve got something for you,” Finland was smiling sweetly, waving a large, double-chocolate chip cookie in front of the air.“Is that nice? I have lots more, but first can I please ask you for a favour?”

“What’s this? Whoa!” America jumped back as he saw the cookie wave in mid air, slowly devoured as crumbs fell onto the carpet.

Whatever had happened, judging from Finland’s smile, the brownie seemed appeased enough to do what they had asked it for. America was not sure what he was looking for, he could not see a thing, until a hole opened up on the very spot where England had been taken, whirling around slowly, leading into some great unknown.

They shuffled towards the brim of the whirling vortex, each one glancing over, trying to rind the bottom to its depths. Despite his fear - concern would be a better word. Heroes did not get frightened - for England’s safety, a familiar excitement, a love for adventure and exploring made America’s heart flutter.

“Shall we go?” Finland gestured towards the hole as if to say ‘after you.’

“Um, just a question,” Canada said, eyeing the large hole in the floor, “but where’s Sealand?”

Finland glanced at Sweden, a barely noticeable gesture, but America could not fail to catch it. “Oh, we left him with Den - a suitable nanny,” he laughed, eyeing Sweden’s expression a little nervously. Indeed, Sweden’s eyes seemed to darken a little. America never knew he liked the little brat so much. Or perhaps it was the thought of the ‘suitable nanny’ they had left him with.

“Awesome,” he laughed, trying to lift the suddenly tense atmosphere. “Well, no time like the present, let’s go!”
