The men in her life (1939-1945) anonymous November 11 2009, 20:59:07 UTC
Stole your title OP, haha.

Mariya Braginski is fem!Russia's human name.

-----

It is the eve of World War 2 and the world is in turmoil.

Mariya Braginski looks at Europe and shakes her head. Why? Why must it always come to this? What it is with men in general and Germany in particular that makes them want to proclaim that they are great and the others are unworthy? Why? Why, why, WHY?

It is a silent plea that goes unanswered in the night. God never listened to Mariya, or if he ever did he stopped after October 1917. God doesn't answer.

Mariya sights. Poland will go first she knows. Poland always go first. Poor Feliks.

Poland is the first to fall. Russia tries to limit the damage as much as she can. But to no avail.

The Winter War begins. It is no tear running down Mariya's cheeks, merely a melted snowflake.

Canadian troops join the conflict. This no longer a simple European quarrel. This is a world war and Russia is afraid of the future.

Germany is not yet the evil he will later be made to be. In these days, he is a powerful neighbour who must not be crossed says Stalin.. New trade agreements are signed by their bosses.

Mariya stares at Ludwig. This is not over his eyes say. Good say hers.

Neither of them ratify the treaty.

The Winter War ends. Finland gains his independance and Russia territory. Both of them are not entirely happy. Happiness is not part of Russia's immediate future, she thinks.

Luxembourg is occupied. The Netherlands surrender next. Then Belgium.

Italy joins the war then and Russia wonders how long the three of them have been planning this.

Russia moves in on the Baltic states as a means of protection.

The Vichy Regime becomes the official French Government.

The Tripartite Pact is signed. In later years it will be called the 'Axis of evil'.

Russia is invited to join. She respectfully refuses.

The United States of America patrols the Atlantic under the pretension of protecting economic interests.

Germany invades the USSR. Mariya runs away and burns the earth behind her. No one ever learns from Napoleon.

Arthur proposes a mutual defence arrangement. Her answer is one word long. Da.

Germany attacks the Baltic states.

Mariya looses track of what happens when then. it is there all neatly stacked up between the pages of History books, but she does not want to know.

Arthur brings her to the meeting. Francis and Alfred are distrustful, but Yao is more suprised then anything.

To this day, Mariya does not understand how they won the war. After Auschwitz she remembers nothing.

Nothing but red. Red, red, red. Beautiful red. Red everywhere.

Sometimes, late at night, she remembers Prussia's face, so beautiful under the red and Germany's twisted in hate as hers must be.

The thing she remembers is sharp and precise like on of Belarus's knife. It is of her hand on Prussia's throat and her voice clear like a winter blizzard You are mine now, Prussia, and you will not hurt my people again.

Surprisingly, the Allies do not stop her. They are afraid of her now she thinks.

That is good. They will not attack her again, then.

When Mariya looks at Europe now she understands. It is not men that are violent and aggressive. It is the soil of Europe that feeds on blood.

Europa's blood is born of the cruelest of atrocities.

It is sad but true, Russia thinks. She surrenders to the dark and waits for better times.

This originally started as humor but morphed into angst as I was writing it.I wrote this in one session directly in the comment box so apologies for any fail. Then again, I might not have picked the best period of history for humor.

Hopefully, the humor comes back later. I will write more of those in different time periods. I might be able to work in the bonuses but no promises.
