[Part Six] Taming of the Bull [3.1/?] anonymous September 7 2009, 03:02:12 UTC
A/N: Sorry for the slow updating!! Unexpected things came up. ;;;; I’ll try my best to get updates out as frequently as possible from now on!

Also, this chapter is talking, talking, and more talking. Sorry for any dullness. OTL

“Vargas household.”

“This is Ludwig Weillschmidt. Is Feliciano Vargas available?”

“… Who the hell is this?”

“… Excuse me?”

“I said, who the hell is this?!”

“Ludwig Weillschmidt, sir. May I please speak to Feliciano now?”

“Don’t give me attitude!! Dammit, why the hell do you wanna talk to him?”

“I thought we could make plans for lunch and-…”

“Not another creeper trying to seduce my brother!! No. You may not speak to him. I am not letting some stupid asshole with some stupid accent go out with my stupid brother!”

“I don’t plan to go out with him. And it’s a German accent, thank you.”

“Tch, then why don’t you just go eat potatoes by yourself, bastard?! Now fuck off!”

Beeeeeeeeeeep.

The apartment door swung open to reveal Francis, wearing nothing but a pink and frilly apron.

Had the guest been anyone else, this would have lead to an incredibly awkward situation. However, this unexpected visitor was none other than Antonio Fernandez Carriedo. He was an exception.

“Am I interrupting anything?” Antonio asked out of pure courtesy.

Francis simply laughed, opening the door wider to let the other man in. “Of course not, mon ami! Just one of those mornings. Too much trouble to actually put on clothes… you understand, of course.”

Antonio understood all too well.

The Frenchman strolled back into his apartment, presumably to find some clothes. “Make yourself at home, I’m just preparing breakfast at the moment. You’re free to join me, if you like.” He threw off the apron, grabbing a pinstripe shirt from the dresser and shrugging it on.

“Ah, thank you!” the other man chirped happily. He made his way to the kitchen counter, seating himself in one of the barstools. “I’m famished, y’see! I always forget how long it takes to get to this city... Oh!” He seemed to just remember what was in his hands. The smile on his face grew as he placed the basket of plump tomatoes on the countertop. “I brought a gift!”

Francis brightened at the gesture as he yanked on a pair of pants. “My, fresh from your farm, are they?”

“Of course!” Antonio replied with a laugh. “I would only give you the best of the best, after all!”

Francis buckled his belt, finally heading over to join the Spaniard in the kitchen. “I don’t doubt you, by the look of these!” He picked up a tomato, inspecting it in his hands. “I can always count on you for the freshest ingredients, Antonio. How is that farm doing, anyways?”

Antonio’s smile seemed to fade a little. His forehead met the counter as he gave a pitiful whine. “Not so good, Francis,” he mumbled.

His friend leaned on the countertop, his expression full of concern. “Aww, what’s wrong? Why don’t you tell your frère your problems?” He soothingly ran his hand through Antonio’s hair, almost as if he were petting a dog.

“I don’t know if you know this, but... I’m not that good with money.”

“Oh, I know,” Francis deadpanned, quirking an eyebrow.

Antonio gave another frustrated groan. “Pa was good with money! Inheriting the farm is great, but I didn’t inherit any business sense…” He lifted his head enough to pout at Francis. “I don’t know what to do! I’ll lose Pa’s farm at this rate!”

A glint passed through Francis’s eyes as a revelation struck him. His countenance became something a little more predatory as he commented, “Looks like someone needs a bit of cash, hm?”

“That would be nice,” came the mumbled reply.

Francis tapped his chin, as if he hadn’t already decided his plan of action. “Well… perhaps I could… endorse that farm of yours? Just for a little while, until you get back on your feet.”

Antonio’s green eyes shot open, and he blinked up at Francis in wonder. “Would… would you do that?”

“Anything for my best friend,” Francis conceded with a smooth smile.

Antonio shot up and embraced Francis in a bear hug from across the counter, his happiness shining clear in his face. “You’re the best!! I promise I’ll pay you back, you have no idea--!”

“Ah, hold up,” the blonde interrupted, pulling the other man away from him. Still smiling, he patted Antonio on the head. “You do realize that there’s a small catch to this offer, yes?”

“Anything!” Antonio gave a small frown. “I can’t lose the farm, Francis! It’s my life!”

“Well, then… I am after someone. A young man named Feliciano Vargas.”

Antonio was caught by surprise. “The son of your boss?”

“The very one.”

”So you want me to set you up? I don’t know the guy.”

“Of course not,” Francis said. “You know I can easily seduce anyone, save for one particular prick. That’s not the issue here.” He gave a mournful sigh. “He’s got an overprotective brother.”

“Oh.” However dense Antonio was, he could understand the problem now.

“Yes, it’s quite unfortunate. However,” Francis mused, “your job, my dear friend, is to make sure that brother doesn’t get in my way. Seduce him, if you will, show him the wonders that come with a relationship. Maybe he wouldn’t be so bitter about life if he did.”

“So… that’s the catch?” Antonio’s eyebrows creased. “Doesn’t sound like an equal trade.”

Francis chuckled at his words. “Oh, believe me, it really is.” He smirked at Antonio. “You see, to put it in your words, we could say that the brother is like a wild bull. Completely unhinged. Badmouthed, violent, and generally very unpleasant company. I haven’t met a single person who can actually stand the kid. Don’t get me wrong, he’s nice with the ladies, and he’s quite a looker too… but you will need all the luck in the world to tame that beast.”

His blue eyes met green as he challenged, “Are you still up for it?”

Much to his surprise, Antonio only looked a bit concerned and… a little sad?

“… he doesn’t have anybody?”

“Well, of course not,” Francis replied. “With that attitude, how could he?”

Antonio was smiling, but in a slightly downcast way that always pained Francis to see. “That… must be very lonely,” the man mused, looking more contemplative than Francis had ever seen him.

“… Antonio?” Francis blinked in surprise. “You okay?”

“I’ll do it!” Antonio abruptly accepted, standing up with his typical sunny smile. “Anything for the money. Can’t be so hard, can it?”

Francis returned the smile, extending his hand. “That’s what I like to hear! Let’s shake on it, shall we?”

And as they clasped hands, the phone began to ring.

Francis and Antonio's! <33333333333333 Awwww, I like how Antonio didn't just jump on the offer, but actually considers about Lovino not having someone else.

I LOVE this so much. Your characterizations are all so spot on and the plot/setting is so original and fun.

And I'm overusing the word "so". See what you do to me authoranon? You make me overuse monosyllabic words in the state of total glee that you've reduced me to. I am seriously looking forward to seeing how Antonio and Lovino get on.
