Just a Little Bad Blood anonymous September 3 2009, 02:59:01 UTC
There are only three things in this world that Vash prides himself on.

One is the smart business he's done for himself and his family. While he may not have any land to speak of, he has certainly managed to reap the fruits of some of the town's more promising endeavors. A few savvy investments here and there, per se, and soon the harvest was bountiful. It doesn't hurt business that the locals have taken quite the liking to his homebrews.

Second is the smart home he's made for himself and his family. With business booming like it is, there's absolutely no need for his darling sister to put in time at the saloon. But Miz' Alice's licentious ways don't seem to be rubbing off on her, and she does enjoy playing the piano so. He spoils that girl rotten, he absolutely does, but to be honest, he doesn't regret it. He'd promised to take care of her after their patriarch's untimely passing, and that's exactly what he did. The girl dresses like a proper young lady, and she knows her numbers, letters, and needlework. She wouldn't have to lift a finger, either, if she weren't so damn selfless.

And third is the good name he's made for himself. There is a gun on the wall above his desk-- a nice, new top-of-the-line, military-grade rifle. She's a work of art, fires as smooth as you please, and Vash has made it crystal clear that she's not just there for decoration. The first time a lowlife pulls any kind of funny business in Vash's establishment is always the last; he used to see to it personally before Miz' Alice came to work for him.

Yes, he remembers quite fondly the day he put a few holes in a bar. Those idiots, that desperado band, thought they could hold his darling sister hostage. They never made that mistake again.

But Vash never thought he'd see the day when he'd have to point the gun at Old General Braginksy's youngest daughter.

"Miss Natalia," he says, keeping his voice level and his finger on the trigger. "I'm going to have to ask you to let go of our customer."

And Miss Natalia looks back at him with madness in her eyes, and asks him if he recognizes the man she's got pinned to the table. Vash doesn't dignify that with an answer, just repeats himself calmly until the girl lets their customer go.

He sends her back behind the bar for Miz' Alice to deal with and turns to apologize to their customer.

"Really, it is not a problem," the man says, waving it off.

"At least allow me to cover for your drinks." Though making amends straight from his own pocket pains him, the notion of losing business in the long run over a little bad blood pains him more. But the man just smiles and says:

"It is not necessary. My sister was just surprised to see me, I believe."
