[INSERT VAGUE TIME SKIP HERE 'TILL AMERICA'S DEPRESSION]
Ivan grinned brightly as Eduard and Raivis came to him obediently when he called them to his room. Raivis was trembling violently as usual, and Eduard had a shadowed look to his face, apprehension radiating from his body.
"Boys...why are you looking so sad? This is a happy, happy day!" exclaimed Ivan, smiling. Raivis didn't respond; it was questionable as to whether he'd even heard him, though no one could ever truly ignore the Russian. Eduard looked up a bit, eyes narrowed in reluctant curiosity.
"Know why? Know why?" asked Ivan excitedly, repeating himself in his fervor. "Toris is coming back to us!" he exclaimed. "I am going to get him right now! That pig Alfred has finally sunk into a Depression, as I knew he would," ('Knew? Yeah right. You didn't know. You just hoped, you bastard, 'cause you just wanted to get your greedy paws on our brother again...' thought Eduard bitterly) "And he can no longer keep Toris. And now I am going to take him back, and he will be here again, just like before! Doesn't that sound great?!"
Eduard felt his heart give a strange sort of double tug in his chest. It wanted to sink at the realization that Toris would have to come back to this hellhole, after finally escaping, but at the same time, it wanted to soar, because...he'd be back! Eduard would have his big brother back, and that thought made him unbelievably happy.
"Ah...yes sir...that sounds great..." he murmured, keeping his voice carefully neutral.
The Russian was too caught up in his own excitement to even notice that the Baltic had spoken. Eduard and Raivis were great...but now he was going to have his Toris back! He could hardly wait!
"I am going to go to get him," he said, grinning. "We will be back soon."
__
Toris felt his stomach writhe sickly in fear and apprehension as he went with Ivan back to Russia. Just as Ivan had predicted over and over to the other Baltics, Alfred had indeed finally grown weak, and was unable to keep Toris anymore. So, Ivan, who had been frighteningly alert for this occurrence, was right there, ready and waiting to take his beloved favorite back home.
Toris wasn't sure if he could make it through the plane ride without throwing up. He was in a window seat, Ivan next to him. The man's bulk was blocking him, both physically and mentally trapping him. There was no way he could get away, and the Russian wanted him to know it. He could sense Ivan's amusement and unconcealed delight at having him back. The ever-present scent of vodka wafted off of him, the smell making the Lithuanian feel even sicker than before.
Eventually, he stopped thinking of daring and foolish and completely impossible escape plans and just tried to focus on the peace he was feeling now. He knew with a sick certainty that it wouldn't last.
[[I am...quite unsatisfied with this part. But...I want to get something up. So here you go, anon-world. :) ]]

He watched as the man walked away, going in the direction of his office. That was an unusual place for him to go; Ivan hated paperwork and the like, and normally had Eduard organize it all for him but for his signature.
That thought led him to realize he should go see his brothers. He hadn't seen them in a long time. He felt extremely guilty about just leaving them here like that, but...there hadn't been any way to take them along, and...
He just hoped they hadn't had too hard of a time, though he knew all too well how it was to live with Ivan.
He padded silently up the stairs to his brothers' rooms, expecting to find them much as he had left them, battered and bruised, but still glowing with a comforting sort of inner strength Toris was sure would never be extinguished.
He went to Eduard's room first. He knocked softly on the closed door, and, when he received no answer, the absence making his stomach give a fearful lurch, he turned the knob and pushed the door open slowly.
"Eduard...?" he called quietly. "Are you there?"
He opened the door all the way, and, with the sparse furnishings that were standard in the Baltics' rooms, it only took a glance to show him his younger brother was not there. That made him relax a bit. He wasn't there...that was good. He'd been expecting to find him on his bed, unable to move, or something...
He exited the room, closing the door behind him. He went down the hall to Raivis's room, and knocked. He once again received no reply, and though he knew that the Latvian probably was not there either, he had to check. He opened the door, had his suspicious confirmed, and closed it once more.
'Where could they be?' he thought, frowning slightly. He didn't hear them bustling around, doing any sort of chores. The Russian's house was deathly silent. And the Baltics were not allowed in any other rooms other than their own, the kitchen, and the living room, except of course when Ivan called them to his room or the basement...
But he had just seen Ivan go off to his office, and he was pretty sure his brothers were not in there.
He rose an eyebrow as a thought occurred to him. If they weren't in their rooms, and they weren't doing chores in the kitchen or living room, and they weren't with the Russian, then...that only left his room. But...why would they be in there?
It was absurd, but he had to check, now that he'd thought of it.

And that hadn't been the only time, either. For the past...god, Raivis didn't even know how long; the time all melded together into a solid block of pain, the Russian had been tormenting them as never before, whipping them, cutting them, generally shoving them about, which, with the Russian's strength, could easily break bones. And every night...every goddamn night...he would rape them on Toris's bed. Actually, come to think of it, most of the torment they received happened in Toris's room. Eduard wasn't sure why this was; he supposed maybe Ivan was subconsciously trying to somehow substitute he and Raivis for his favorite, and when it didn't satisfy him, he would grow enraged, even more so than before, and punish he and Raivis for not being Toris.
Eduard and Raivis were sitting here on their older brother's bed now simply because...Ivan seemed to like to keep them here, and, though he hadn't specifically told them they had to stay after he stuck them in here before leaving for America, he also hadn't said they could leave, either, and neither of them wanted to take the chance.
They sat in silence, Eduard staring unseeingly at the bed, and Raivis lying back with his eyes closed and his arm over his face, in a vain attempt to block out the world.
"I wonder when Toris'll be back..." murmured Eduard suddenly.
Raivis shifted his arm and looked up at his brother for a second, before shrugging nearly imperceptibly and putting his arm back.
"Dunno..." he said softly.
"Huh..." said Eduard, before lapsing back into contemplative silence once more.
_
A few hours later, making both Baltics flinch, the door was opened. Eduard felt a moment of fearful panic, sure it was going to be Ivan, back again, to do terrible horrib-
But it was only Toris, peeking in carefully, green eyes wide in curiosity and concern.
"Eduard...Raivis..." he said softly, so happy to see them again, though a feeling of despair had settled heavily over the room since the last time he'd been there.
Eduard looked at him, a look of confusion, followed by inexplicable happiness on his face. He got up off the bed as fast as he could, which, Toris was alarmed to see, wasn't that fast at all. His brother walked slowly, carefully, as though he were in great pain all over.
But before Toris could ask him about it, the Estonian's arms were around him, Eduard's face buried in his shoulder.
"Toris..." he choked out, not crying, not yet, but sounding near. "You...you're back..."
Toris wrapped his arms instinctively around his brother, confusion etched into every feature of his face.
"Yes..." he murmured quietly. "I'm back. Wh-"
He was cut off as his other brother wrapped his arms around him too, Eduard shifting to give him room to hug Toris around the waist. He hadn't even seen Raivis stand up.
"Toris..." said the youngest brother, voice muffled against Toris's body.

"H-Hey...guys...? W-What's wrong?" he asked, dreading the answer.
Neither of his brothers answered for a moment. He could hear that Raivis had begun to cry; the youngest Baltic was still clinging to him with his face buried in his shirt.
Eduard, as usual when Raivis was too scared or sad to talk, took the initiative. He released his older brother, not meeting his gaze.
"How was your time in America?" the Estonian found himself asking before he could bite it back. He hadn't wanted to say that...at least, not that way. He'd wanted to say something...else. Something that didn't sound like he was accusing his brother. But...as soon as he'd opened his mouth, that had popped out, voice laced with a layer of sarcasm and bitterness. When had he begun to sound like that? He'd never talked to people that way before... He guessed that was just another thing on the list of changes in him since Russia.
Toris took an involuntary step back, eyes widened slightly. It was a normal enough question...but the way Eduard had said it...
"What?" he asked, frowning slightly, eyes narrowed. "I-It was fine...but...Eduard, what are you implying?"
Eduard didn't look up.
"Nothing," he said shortly. "Just forget about it. I...I'm glad to see you, Toris. It's been...tough...not having you here." He sighed, sounding tired and worn out. It was obvious from his voice and demeanor that 'it's been tough' had a deeper meaning than it would for most people.
Raivis pulled away from his brother and took a step back, not looking at him. He wiped absently at his eyes.
Toris frowned deeper at the strange way his brothers were acting. Why were they being like this? Was he missing something?
"Eduard...Raivis...what's the matter? If you don't tell me, I'm never going to understand. I can tell you're mad at me...but there's more to it than that," he said softly. He hated seeing his brothers like this.
Eduard finally looked up at him, a mixture of sadness, pain, and anger in his eyes.
"Can't you guess?" he said scathingly. "Ivan. That's what's wrong. Ever since you left, living with him has been worse than ever! He beats us not only for the smallest, most insignificant thing, but also whenever something reminds him you're not here. And...and at night...at night he-"
He frowned and shook his head, unable to continue.
Toris stood, frozen. His absence...had made things worse for his brothers?
"E-Eduard...I...I didn't know..." he said lamely, shaking his head slowly, the already large ball of guilt writhing in his stomach growing to exponential proportions.

Toris shook his head and wrapped his arms around the middle Baltic brother, interrupting his struggles to find the words.
"Don't worry about it Eduard. I know. I...I'm not sure if I wouldn't be angry too, if it had been me in your position..." he murmured softly. He sighed deeply and hugged him for a moment before backing away and looking downward, not meeting his brother's gaze.
